Chapter Text
The air was foggy and moist in the darkened room, the windows were shut, the curtains drawn tightly closed. Four figures were sitting around a small cauldron in the middle of the place.
„This is going to finally make him reveal all his true nasty colors!“, James said triumphantly to his friends while continuing to stir his potion counter-clockwise. The marauders were sitting in the Gryffindor common room around a small cauldron while the rest of their classmates were out, enjoying the first glimspes of spring in Hogsmeade.
„James, I‘m not sure that is such a good idea. Lily and Snape are barely friends anymore, what more do you want?“, Lupid interjected hesitantly. He was always the alleged voice of reason of their group – not that anyone paid him much mind.
„I want her to really understand that he‘s a nasty git, that‘s what I want!“, James answered scornfully. „Even better when it also ends up embarrassing him, I could use a good laugh“, the idea spread a smile on his face.
„How will the potion work again, James?“, Peter asked timidly. He always admired the skillfullness of his friends, hoping to learn from them. That they were breaking the rules – again – didn‘t bother him as much. With the right crowd, even Peter could feel invincible.
James and Sirius began to grin even more excitedly. „The potion will bring your subconscious to the forefront, making you unable to hide your feelings and desires. It shares a lot of ingredients with verita serum and is perfect for a closed-up git like Snivellus. The difference between the two potions is that ours will act more on feelings than on speech. The feelings will just spill to the forefront for everyone to see. Like this, Snape definitely won‘t be able to mask his hatered for muggleborns in front of Lily. He might even try to attack us unprompted, so be prepared, guys“
„Honestly, that plan sounds still pretty vague, James“, Lupin interjected again, his forehead creased in worry. „Do we really know what effect it will have on him?“
„We‘ll just test it on Snivellus and then we‘ll know more“, Sirius replied, not a trance of worry on his gleeful face.
„Pete, once Siri and I will have finished brewing it, it‘s your task to mix the potion into his drink or food, alright? Your animagus is perfect for the task“
„Sure, James!“ Peter perked up at the prospect of being of value to his friends.
