in awe and reverence

Summary:

Yoohan blinked at him, eyes still glassy from having woken up. He's pretty when he's hissing and spitting like a rowdy cat, but there's something ethereal when he let his guard down like this, vulnerable and trusting. Jay couldn't stop himself from leaning down and kissing him on the forehead softly. "Let's get you to bed."

Jay came back home late one night, and accidentally woke Yoohan up before he could carry him to bed.

Notes:

*clears throat* *cracks fingers*

I am very proud to admit that I've hit my minimum goal of ten fics for this fandom. AS SUCH!

1. This fic is from Jay's POV. It's fun as hell writing from his perspective so I hope you enjoy it too. This man is simping throughout this fic and he's shameless about it which I think is canon enough (wink wink) Also, very slight spoilers from this novel regarding the walnut cookies that Yoohan asked from Jay in the sequel (thanks to Zaw_z for pointing this out in my previous fic!)

2. I checked my fics and Idk why I only just realized it, but most of my fics are fluffy and tender and emotional. If you think they're boring, I don't apologize. Let me indulge in my HC in peace!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The apartment was dark.

It wasn't supposed to be. Jay was used to coming back home with the lights on and to see Yoohan curled up on the couch, sleeping. His shoes clattered against the floor as he rushed into the living room, flicking the lights switch on. He breathed a sigh of relief when he confirmed that Yoohan's in his usual spot.

He quietly stepped closer and squatted next to Yoohan, brushing his bangs gently aside. There's no scripts strewn around him like usual, so he must had been exhausted and went to sleep right away. Yoohan's schedule was packed full recently; it drove Jay mad in the beginning to have him gain so much attention and getting more acting offers after the drama he'd acted in aired in cinemas, but he'd seen how hard Yoohan worked for it. His possessiveness and jealousy notwithstanding, Yoohan's wishes should come first. Unless they directly contradicted his own, which he would immediately intervened with.

Nobody and nothing else would — could — separate them.

Yoohan winced just the tiniest bit, from both the lights and Jay's touches, causing him to break into a small smile. He's so adorable. He would rather jump off a roof than admit that he waited for Jay to come back home because he didn't want to sleep on their bed alone, but he didn't need to. Jay always knew what he needed. He knew Yoohan better than himself.

He rolled up his sleeves, preparing himself to carry Yoohan back into bed. It's something he looked forward to doing every night. Yoohan's weight in his arms grounded him to reality, warm and comforting. Yoohan would yell at him again the next morning for not waking him up, but Jay never failed to find it amusing. Now that their relationship was out in the open, Yoohan didn't waste any time shouting at him in public, especially when he lost another round of pop quiz. It's just another way for Jay to stake his claim; the immovable Yoohan with his default blank and expresionless face, getting worked up in front of the smiling devil in disguise psychopath president.

Smiling indulgently to himself, he was going to slip an arm under Yoohan's back when he slowly opened his eyes, squinting at the bright lights overhead. Jay blocked it off, hovering over him and watching fondly as Yoohan rubbed at his eyes. His hand instinctively moved down the length of his body, settling on top the curve of his hip and squeezing once.

He pulled away to let Yoohan walk on his own. It's a shame he didn't get to carry him tonight, but there would be other days to make up for it. As he got off the couch, he felt a pull on his shirt, and obediently stopped. "Yoohan?"

Yoohan stared at him, his mouth slightly parted. Jay would have kissed him on the spot if Yoohan didn't look so tired, and then —

"I'm tired." Yoohan mumbled sleepily, gripping onto Jay's collar and dragging him close. "I don't wanna walk."

His brain went into complete meltdown. Jay froze on the spot, his chest tightening so hard his heart might have stopped beating. In his shock, his body stiffened up and rendering him speechless. Yoohan didn't seem to notice, putting him in a headlock in a careless attempt to wrap his arms around his neck, and huffing when it tangled their limbs together.

How could someone be so precious? Jay wanted to eat him whole, top to bottom. Keep him by his side forever and never let him go. He planted a fat kiss on his hair and rearranged their limbs to fit together perfectly. Yoohan silently clung onto him, resting his chin on his shoulder. Jay couldn't stop smiling when he lifted Yoohan off the couch, wrapping his legs around his waist and pressing their chests together. He took his sweet time walking to their bedroom, enjoying the quiet, peaceful moment.

Yoohan wasn't asleep. His gaze on Jay's face was ticklish, reminding him of the first time he'd caught him sleeping on the rooftop. Jay smothered himself all over Yoohan at that time, courtesy of his days of overworking, causing the man to be confused with the drastic personality change.

"I knew you'd also be clingy when you're tired." Jay noted in an amused tone, patting the firm butt within his grip. "Take the day off tomorrow and sleep in. You've finished filming for your part, so you can take it easy for now."

Of course, it would be more ideal to spend the entire day frolicking on the bed, but it felt better doing it when Yoohan's putting up a fight. It's like a reward when he finally gave in and let Jay do whatever he wanted to him.

Hmm. Speaking of, frolicking was a difficult word. Maybe he'd use it for their next round of pop quiz—

"... you?" Yoohan has whispered something, but he'd only caught the tail end. When he prompted for him to repeat himself with a generous squeeze to his ass, he flushed and turned his face the other way. Cute.

Jay chuckled to himself, rubbing his face against the back of Yoohan's neck. He'd usually continue teasing him until he got an answer, but he's indulged enough by Yoohan tonight so he let it go, setting him down on their bed gently. As he was tucking him inside the blanket, Yoohan stared at him again, looking like he's working himself up to say something.

He busied himself doing menial tasks; loosening his tie and changing into a short-sleeved shirt to give Yoohan some space and boost of courage. It's when he was chucking his clothes into the laundry basket when he heard it:

"Are you... going to work tomorrow?"

He didn't understand the meaning of the question at first, and turned to Yoohan's direction. Maybe it's because Jay was standing quite a distance away, but Yoohan didn't look away. The gears inside his brain moved in tandem, then it clicked.

Of course. Yoohan would never claim his needs and desires in a straightforward way. Not until he was forced to do so.

He zoomed towards the bed with a delighted grin, and Yoohan let out a low grunt when he was pulled into Jay's arms and aggressively cuddled. His fingers ran through the strands of Yoohan's hair, then cupping his cheek and pinching on it. His husband reeled in from the flurry of movements, but he was expecting the answer to his previous question.

Jay liked participating in their little mind games. He enjoyed the thrill of it, of seeing Yoohan bending to his whims. His usual response would be to tease Yoohan to tell him what he really wanted, just like those walnut cookies, but this was the first time he'd admitted to wanting Jay to stay with him.

"If you told me to take the entire month off, I will." Jay's voice came out breathless, his heart soaring. "Shall we, Yoohan? Let's go somewhere for our honeymoon, hmm?"

Yoohan squirmed in his embrace, evidently flustered that Jay caught on. "Don't be ridiculous."

"I'll give you anything you want." Jay kissed him on the cheek, then the other. "Say the word, and it's yours."

"Just... for tomorrow." Yoohan mumbled, his eyes darting everywhere.

"Okay. I'll give them a call in the morning." Jay agreed easily, patting Yoohan's head. "We'll talk about our honeymoon some other day."

Yoohan didn't give a reply, but Jay didn't need one. He discreetly tilted his head into Jay's hand further, letting him stroke his hair. That's as much as an agreement as any by Yoohan's standards.

Yoohan drifted off into sleep first, and Jay followed after, still smiling.

Notes:

If any one of you is curious about what Yoohan said when Jay couldn't hear him, it was "What about you?"

Also! Yoohan asking "Are you going to work tomorrow?" is basically just a code word for "You take the day off tomorrow too." He's being vague bc Yoohan is, y'know, being Yoohan.
