Work Text:

George had finally put it together. After days of study and analysis, he had finally figured it out.

They were all absolute idiots. And George was grateful for it because if they weren’t, the other explanations wouldn’t be pretty.

They were the definition of a love triangle. Not those idiotic love triangles that most books had, where a girl had to choose between two very similar guys that he had heard referred to as a love corner, but a real, honest-to-god, love triangle.

Sapnap liked Dream. You could tell from how he talked about him, the way he defended Dream, the way they had special days together that Sapnap did his best not to miss for the world, and just how soft and quiet he could get with Dream.

Dream was in love with Sapnap. He gave Sapnap lots of little trinkets, initiated hugs and cuddles, and was determined to include him in all things dTeam, even if the fans tended to pair up George and Dream, leaving Sapnap as the background ship with Karl.

But they also loved George, which is what threw him off track for so long. Because while polyamory was something discussed in online spaces, it wasn’t very common. He at first thought that the two were dating and he was just the new person in their space, so they were being extra affectionate. But they kept going for months and George realized they had felt like that before he even got to Florida.

Sapnap dropped everything to visit him in London, he let him pick where they went for dinner more often than not and made sure he didn’t get overwhelmed by people after being alone for so long. And Dream… anyone online with a brain could figure out that there was something up with how Dream felt about George.

I mean, just this week he liked untagged DNF fanart, before bemoaning that his fanartists needed to draw something other than DNF.

Twitter laughed at him for days.

Anyway, George was sure that they both loved each other and him. Which made him feel great until he realized that this brought both of them so much guilt . He could see it in their faces sometimes, how Dream would look at Sapnap longingly before glancing at George and looking away in shame. Sapnap kept almost reaching out and saying something to George when they were alone, before shutting down.

And George is pretty sure that he loves them too. He hasn’t felt like this before and everything he looked at indicated that was the case.

Except for this one website, which said he had long-term lust? What? Sure, sex with them sounded amazing , but that certainly wasn’t the main focus of his feelings. More like a side benefit.

Not the point. The point is that George is going to have to get this relationship started, because the other two have too much self-doubt (Sapnap) and a tendency to overthink (Dream) for either of them to do it.

So. The plan to make this happen.

The plan.

George doesn’t have a plan.

He should make on. Because there is no way he can just walk up to the two of them and say “Hey, want to be in a poly relationship together?” without someone freaking out.

Time to get thinking and planning.

George, after thinking for far longer than he should have, has a plan! Is it a good plan? Honestly, who knows. But he has one, and that's what's important.

Basically, he's going to turn today into a date day. Dream doesn’t have any pressing work and had mentioned needing a break and Sapnap doesn’t have any streaming plans. He is going to make breakfast, then do stuff all day with the two of them, no cameras, ending the day with going out to dinner at a restaurant the two of them enjoy that they haven’t gone to in a while.

Step one, make breakfast. He’s not the greatest, but he should be good enough for it to be seen as sweet rather than funny. So he gets up extra early, which is a struggle, but he does it nonetheless. The goal will be worth it. He pulls up the recipe for pancakes he found online and gets started.

It goes wrong pretty quickly. He gets distracted, nearly burns himself on the griddle, and the final project tastes way too sweet.

He checked the recipe and groaned. It was tablespoons of sugar, not cups of sugar. Darn it. He had to throw out the whole batch.

“George? Why are you up so early?” George whips his head over to the stairs, where Dream is groggily wiping his eyes, having just come down the stairs in his pjs. “Why does it smell like something is burning?”

“Shoot! The second batch!” George quickly unplugs the griddle, scoops the pancakes off, and dumps them on the counter.

“Wait, were you trying to make breakfast?” Dream plods over with a small smile.

“Yeah. I put cups of sugar instead of tablespoons of sugar, so it tastes really bad .” George sighs, trying not to let his frustration through. He’ll just have to make the rest of the day perfect.

“Aww, thank you! We can just have cereal though,” Dream plops his head on top of George, which he used to think was strange until Sapnap explained it was a way to show affection for Dream. He did it to Dream one time while he was sitting on the couch and Dream got so excited.

“What’s burning?” Sapnap rubs his eyes, yawning as he descends the stairs, wearing just his boxers. Because of course he is.

“The pancakes that George tried to make,” Dream says, going to pull out the cereal.

“What’s the occasion? You never make breakfast,” Sapnap asks, giving him a suspicious look.

“No occasion, I just wanted to do something nice!” George snarks back, a little annoyed.

“Leave Georgie alone Sapnap, he tried his best,” at least Dream is here to defend him.

They eat cereal for breakfast and George dumps out the ruined pancake mix after.

The rest of the day goes like that too. Wants to watch a movie? Dream has an emergency call from the merch company. Tries to order Sapnap’s favorite lunch? Just as he’s about to place the order Sapnap walks out eating leftovers. Try to hang out at the mall to do some shopping? Someone posts their location and they get swarmed to the point Dream gets overstimulated and has to go home.

George tries not to be bitter about it, but it’s hard. He just wanted to give Dream and Sapnap a wonderful day and so many things went wrong.

“Hey, what’s up?” Sapnap asks.

“I just wanted today to be perfect so I could ask you and Dream out,” George grumbles, not noticing his blunder until he hears Sapnap take a sharp breath.

“Wha…” he’s staring at George now and oh no he’s messed up damage control damage control.

“I mean, well, you know, I’ve seen how you two look at each other and first thought you two were dating and hadn't told me yet but then I started getting the same looks from you two and so I thought that we were being stupid and no one was confessing and I thought if I made today perfect you would be relaxed enough I could tell you both that I love you but now I'm afraid I misread something and I'm sorry,” George blurts out as Sapnap seems frozen.

They sit there for a moment before there is a pounding set of footsteps and suddenly Dream is planted in George’s chest. Before George can do anything, Sapnap is on top of him, grabbing his face and smooshing their lips together.

And suddenly George is kissing Sapnap while Dream is nuzzling into his chest muttering ‘I love you’s non-stop.

When they stop kissing to breathe, Sapnap whispers “I love you too idiot.”

Dream turns his head and makes a questioning noise, to which Sapnap laughs wetly and says “I love both of you.”

Both Sapnap and Dream are grinning, and George can feel that he is too. “I guess it worked after all, even though today was a disaster.”

“Oh yeah, this was just about the only good part of today,” Sapnap agrees.

They sit there is silence for a moment before Dream asks “We are boyfriends now, right?”

“Duh, idiot,” Sapnap says, patting his head.

“Great, can you get off my back so I can get kisses too?”

They spend the rest of the evening making out on the couch and basking in the joy of their new relationship.

“Wait, is this why you tried to make pancakes this morning?”

“Shut up Stinknap.”

“Hey!”

Notes:

Fun fact, the whole cups instead of tablespoons thing with sugar that George does? I did that. Trust me, it's really bad. I don't think our dog even wanted to eat it.

Anyway, feel free to check out my Tumblr, I do have some art. (I'm going to post the doodles I'm doing in my classes, I swear) https://www.tumblr.com/mistythedritten

I hope you enjoyed! See you next time.
