Chapter Text

Shot through the heart

Jay is at work with everyone. When Greg (Mouse) Gerwitz's commanding officer came up with Trudy Platt. Brandon Williams looked around and asked for Detective Jay Halstead? Jay said that is me. Brandon said can we talk in private?

Jay asked what is it about? Brandon said it is about Greg (Mouse) Gerwitz. Jay said you can talk about him because he is family here. Brandon said Mouse was taken by Iraq soldiers. He has possibly died.

Jay would have fallen to the floor if it was not for Hank and Adam holding him up. They put him in his chair. Antonio called his sister to make sure Jay is okay. Hank said okay thank you for letting us know. Brandon said you are welcome.

Brandon said I got to let a few more people know about their family members. With that Brandon left. Gabby came up. She went to look at Jay but he said that he is fine. Gabby tried again but Jay yelled no please get away from me.

Gabby came up to Jay again. And this time Jay got up but fell over Adam's foot. Jay got up and went and locked himself into Hank's office. Hank asked Gabby to leave. Gabby left.

Hank thought that he would never have to knock on his own door but he did. Hank said she is gone. Jay unlocks the door and says thank you. Hank said you are welcome. That night Jay could not take it any more.

So he wrote everyone letters saying goodbye. Jay put the letters down for everyone on their desk to look at it as soon as they got there. After that he left to go to his mom's grave to be with her while he died. He got to his mom's grave. He talked to her for a little while holding his gun to his heart because he was going to kill himself after he got done talking with his mom.

Hank comes back to the station as he forgot a file for a case that was going to court and he was going to be testifying so he needed to remember the facts of the case.

Hank walks into his office and as he is looking through the folders on his desk he sees a letter sitting in front of a picture of him and Jay that was taken at a football game and Hank goes over and he opens it and starts to read it and as he is reading it his mind starts to race and he worries about Jay and he runs out of the station and gets into his car straight away and he hopes he gets to him in time as he can't bury a child and that's what Jay is to him a son and he needs to find him.

Hank gets to the cemetery and he runs around looking for Jay and he is starting to panic as it's already been 20 minutes and he can't find him and just as he passes a grave a sees him and runs right to him but he stops when he sees that Jay has a gun pointed to his heart.

Jay sees Hank coming and he didn't want it to be this way as now the man he thought of as a dad is going to have to watch him take his own life.

"Jay, I need you to put the gun down and talk to me?" Hank asks.

Jay says nothing, he only holds the gun tighter.

"Jay please I can't bury you so please just drop the gun and I'll take you back to mine and we can talk and figure things out please son I'm begging you don't do this" Hank says.

Just like that Jay drops the gun and Hank goes to him and holds his son in his arms and Jay just lets all his emotions out and Hank tells him it's OK dad's here now I promise you'll be OK maybe not today or tomorrow but someday.

Chapter Text

Chapter 2

After a while Jay stopped crying. Hank said come on, let's get up. Hank got up. And he help Jay up as well. Hank put his arm around Jay to keep him near him for right now.

They got to Hank's truck. Hank opens the door for Jay. Jay gets in. Hank goes to the other side of the truck. While he was doing that he pulled out his phone and called Trudy to grab the letters from everyone from Jay.

Trudy answered her phone. Before she could say anything Hank asked her to get the letters and ask her to ask Mouch to come with her and to see if Shay would come and be quiet about it. Trudy said yeah I do the first part but I will have to ask Mouch about the second part. Hank said thank you. Trudy said you are welcome.

Trudy asked can I ask what is going on? Hank told Trudy what happened. Trudy said Please tell me he is going to be okay? Hank said I think so. Trudy said thank God.

They got off the phone. Trudy turned to Mouch and asked if he could call Shay to meet us at Hank place. Mouch asked why? Trudy told Mouch what happened. Mouch said yeah.

Trudy said thank you. Mouch said you are welcome. While Trudy was driving Mouch was talking to Shay. Trudy said to Mouch I will be right back. Mouch just nodded his head.

Trudy got all the letters. Now that she was in Hank's office she sat at his desk and read his letter from Jay. While she was reading it she was crying because the letter was sad. It said,

Dear Hank

I think of you as my father. And it is hard for me to write this. I know this is going to be hard on you because you just lost Justin, and your grandson, and Erin. I love Erin as a sister. We just made people think that we were boyfriend and girlfriend but we were not.

Erin, Kim, Adam, and I talked. They were found to act like girlfriends but in reality I was dating Adam. I really want to tell you all but I couldn't because I was scared that if I tell you all that then what happened would happen again. I got beaten up so badly. That I end up in the hospital. They called my father.

When my father heard what happened he said to the hospital to let me feel the pain as no medicine. When I heard that I took him off of everything and just at the time I had added my brother. Now it's my brother and you. I am going to be with someone that will always love me as me. I am going to be with my mom.

The reason why I am taking my life is because of everything that is going on between me and the accident that shot that little girl, to my father, and Mouse probably being dead. I can't have nightmares anymore. And Hailey not being there as a partner because I was not taking the therapy very well. I just don't know what to do. And I think this is for the best.

I am sorry for all this. I think of everyone as family. Please take care of Adam for me. As well as Will. I beg of you to do that.

Trudy got up and left. Mouch asked Trudy are you okay? Trudy said no but I will be. Trudy asks if Shay is at Hank's house? Mouch said almost.

Trudy said okay. At the same time that Trudy and Mouch got to Hank's house so did Shay. Trudy said thank you for doing this. Shay said yeah no problem. Mouch knocked on the door.

Hank yelled it was open. Mouch opens the door. Mouch asked where are you? Hank said in the living room. They got to the living room.

Shay asked Jay if she could look at him because she heard what happened to Gabby earlier. Jay just nodded his head. After a while Shay got up and moved over so Jay could not hear. Shay said he will be fine as long as he eats. But his mind will need to get help.

Hank and Trudy said thank you. Shay said you are welcome. Shay said I will go. Shay left. Hank asked Trudy if she could get everyone to the station so I could talk to them. Trudy said yeah.

Hank said thank you. Trudy said you are welcome. Hank said I don't know if I can leave him alone. Mouch said I can stay here for a little while. Hank said okay thank you.

Trudy left. Hank and Mouch sat down. Hank next to Jay. Mouch on the chair across from Jay. Hank went to ask a question but Jay stopped him.

Jay said I am sorry. Hank said it will be okay not today not tomorrow but soon. Hank asked why didn't you come to me? Jay said I don't know. Hank said okay.

Hank said I gotta go but Mouch will be here if you need anything. Jay asked where you were going? Hank said I am going to tell everyone that you will be here, that you asked to stay and get help from a Military friend when Justin was in the army. Jay said okay. Jay said Please tell everyone that I don't want to see them for a while.

Hank said okay. Hank was getting up when Jay said fuck wait. Hank sat back down. Hank asked what was wrong? Jay said I can't do that to my brother.

Hank asked why? Jay said the reason why I asked you to look out for him is because. I think I can't prove it. But I think his boyfriend is hitting him. When I see him he will be black and blue.

Jay said he says that if you see him that he walks into things. You will not say it from walking into things. I might believe it if his patience hit him. I just wish he would come to me and tell me what is going on. But he will not.

Hank said I will handle it. Don't worry about it. Jay said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Hank got up and left.

It only been a few minutes and Mouch wished how wife would come back as he didn't know what to say to the young man but he thought that he would try something.

"Jay I know you don't really know me and that's OK but if you ever need to talk to someone then know that you can come to me and what we talk about will remain between us" Mouch says.

"Thank you Mouch I appreciate it and I'm sorry you got stuck with me" Jay says.

"Jay never feel like you need to apologize because it's clear you're in pain. I offered to stay and I wish I could help more," Mouch says.

"Thank you. Can I hug you?" Jay asks.

"Of course you can" Mouch says and opens up his arms for Jay.

Mouch and Jay hug each other and Jay breaks down again but Mouch says it's OK I'm here for you.

The team all arrive at the station after getting a message from Trudy saying to come back as Hank needs a word immediately.

Chapter 3

Hank and Haley got to their work place at the same time. Haley could see that there was something really wrong with Hank. She waited for him. Haley asked is everything okay? Hank said no but I will explain when we get inside.

Alvin said everyone is here but Jay. Kevin said yeah where is Jay? Hank said that is why you all are here right now. Hank said sit down. Everyone sat down.

Hank sat in Jay's chair and sighed. Hank said I left a case here so I came back to get it. But instead I found a letter. I read it. It was from Jay.

Hank said he said that he was going to kill him. Everyone but Haley got up and asked if he was okay? Hank said yes. Because I got to him in time and he is at my house right now. Everyone signed a sigh.

Everyone said that is good. Adam asks is he by himself? Hank said no. Adam said oh okay good. Hank said he had asked you all to leave him alone for right now.

Everyone said okay. Haley asked why is he not at the hospital right now where he should be? Hank said because I am going to look after him. Antonio asked about Will? Hank said I will go talk to him.

Kim said okay. Hank said you all can go home. Everyone got up to leave but Hank asked Adam to stay. Adam sat back down. After everyone left.

Hank said Jay loves you. And he is sorry that this happened. Adam asked you know? Hank said yes it was in his letter. Adam said oh okay.

Adam said Jay really wanted to let you know about us. He really did. He trusts you. But he was scared. He thought that if he told you then this would happen to him.

Adam turns and opens a drawer. And got an envelope out. The look on Hank's face told Adam that he better explain. Adam said Mouse gave this to me. He told his boss and he was fine to his face.

But when they went on a mission instead of helping him he let him be taken and here are the pictures. Hank looked at the pictures and they were so bad. Adam said it was Mouse and a few other people that came and got him. The boss got fired and is still in prison. And he didn’t want that to happen again.

Hank said oh wow. You can go home. I need to go talk to Will and then go home. Adam said okay. Adam said can you please let Jay know that I love him and I will be here for him?

Hank said yeah. Adam said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Haley did not go home, she went to the high up. Haley told the higher ups what happened.

The high ups said there is nothing wrong. Haley said he should be at the hospital because he tried to kill himself. The high ups said yeah but he stopped himself. Haley just left. After Hank talked to Will he went home.

Mouch was watching Jay. Jay was asleep. Hank told Mouch that he can go home. Mouch said thank you. Hank said you are welcome.

Mouch told Hank to just kick Jay's foot so that he doesn’t try to hit you. Hank said okay thank you. Mouch said you are welcome. Mouch got home and told Trudy wow! Trudy said yeah.

Mouch and Trudy went to bed. Mouch could not go to sleep. It was the next day. Mouch and Herman looked like they wanted to talk about something. But they couldn’t do that.

Everyone kept asking if they were okay? They both said yeah they are. Just then the bell rings. They all got called to a fire. When they all pull up they can see the house is engulfed in flames and they see two brothers shouting for help and Herman and Mouch head in and they see the brothers and both Mouch and Herman get them out and straight to the ambulance but as the paramedics are working on them one of the brothers starts to code and unfortunately the guy dies.

When everyone gets back to the station both Mouch and Herman are quiet and they keep thinking about the brother who survived and how he feels now that he has to live without his only family member.

Mouch decided to speak to Herman but he goes with what happened to see how his friend reacts.

"You know I was just thinking about how close those brothers seemed," Mouch says.

"Yeah me too" Herman says.

"Wonder what the other one is going to do without him?" Mouch asks.

"Don't know but if that was me and my brother I would be lost without him" Hermann says.

"Makes you appreciate family more and more," Mouch says.

"Hey Hermann, how close are you with your brother?" Mouch asks.

"We're close" Hermann answers.

"So if one of you was struggling you would want the other to know right?" Mouch asks.

"It depends I mean say it was me who was struggling but my little brother had struggles of his own than I would want them to go to someone I know can look out for them and me I mean it's like we don't know what goes on in people's lives but I do think that sometimes we put to much pressure on being the big sibling or the little sibling" Hermann says.

Mouch thinks about what his best friend says and he hopes that he hasn't given too much away and hopes his best friend understood what he was getting at.
Jay sat on Hank's couch and said I would like to talk to someone. But not you at the moment and I don't know who. Hank asked what about Dr. Charles.? Jay said I am afraid that he will put me where he works. Hank said it was true.
Hank and Jay were thinking when Hank's phone went off. Hank said hello. Maggie told Hank what was going on.
Maggie asked Hank if it was possible for Jay to come and help out his brother? Hank looked at Jay and said I will see what I can do. Maggie said okay thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Then they got off the phone.

Chapter Text

Chapter 4

After Hank got off the phone he went and sat in front of Jay. Hank was about to say something about Will but Jay said I think I know who I would like to talk to. Hank said yeah. He asked who? Jay said what about Ethan Choi?

Hank said I will see about him. Jay said cool. Hank said the person on the phone was Maggie. Jay looked panicked and asked how is Will? Hank told Jay what was going on.

Jay said fuck! Jay said let’s go. Hank asked are you sure? Jay said yes. Hank said okay let’s go.

When they got to the hospital. Jay went in and told Maggie if they can fix the bones to go ahead. Jay went up to Herman and asked who did this? Herman was still freaking out that he said Connor Rhodes. Jay left the room to go after Connor but Ethan Choi tackled Jay and put him in his brother’s room.

Choi said Will will need you and not you in jail. So please sit there until they take him to surgery. Jay was about to say let me go after him but Hank said I got Adam going after him. Jay said okay thank you. Hank said you are welcome.

Jay gave a look to Hank and Hank got the meaning of it. Hank had asked Dr. Choi can you please come with me? Dr. Choi said yeah. Hank said thank you. Dr. Choi stopped in front of Jay and asked are you going to be okay right here?

Jay said yeah. Dr. Choi left with Hank. Jay grabbed Will's hand and asked why did I take that job as a uncover when I knew you were getting hurt? Herman had calm down a little bit. And said it’s not your fault you had to do what you need for yourself.

Jay said I still don’t feel good about this. Herman was going to say something but another doctor came in and said that they are going to take Will to go get surgery done. Jay said okay thank you. The doctor said you are welcome. Everyone else left and went into the waiting room.

Hank and Dr. Choi went into the break room that Hank had been in before. Hank said the reason why I asked you to come with me is because I need to ask you something and you can’t tell no one and that means Dr. Charlies. Because Jay and I are worried that it would not be good for this person to be locked up right now along with his brother being in the hospital right now. Dr. Choi said I can try. Hank said okay.

Hank looked around to make sure no one was around. Hank said the reason why I asked you not to talk to Dr. Charles is because Jay tried to kill himself but I saved him. And he doesn’t have anyone to talk to him because of his army that he has been through. Dr. Choi was so shocked that he didn’t know what to say. Hank thought for a second that Dr. Choi was going to go and get people to take Jay to Dr. Charlies.

But he was so shocked when Dr. Choi said that he will help out. Hank said thank you. Dr. Choi said you are welcome. Dr. Choi said I will give him a few days so that he can handle what is going on around him. Hank said okay thank you.

Ethan took Hank back to Will's room and he just nodded to Jay and he went back to the doctors lounge and he opened his locker and pulled pulled out a notebook and looked at it and thought about the very first time his own therapist have it to him and told him to write down his emotions, his thoughts or simply a word to describe how he feels and think about why that word and what he thinks goes with it and then once he has been able to come up with enough words he can figure out how to move forwards.

Ethan goes back to where Jay and Hank are and he gives the young Detective his phone number and tells him to give a call it doesn't matter if it's night or day he will be there.

Chapter Text

Chapter 5

After a while they took Will up to get surgery done on his left knee and right ankle. Jay could not just sit down and wait no more. Jay said that he will be right back. Jay found Ethan right by the room Will was in. Jay went up to him and asked if they could talk somewhere quiet?

Ethan said yeah come on. Ethan told Maggie that he will be right back. Maggie said okay. Ethan took Jay to a room that they use when they need to tell family members that their loved ones did not make it. Ethan closed the door to hide him.

Jay said the reason why I asked to talk to you right now is because. I can't take it right now. Ethan asked what are you talking about? Jay said, sitting blaming myself for this. Ethan said you are not to be blamed for what Connor did.

Ethan said that is on Connor. Jay asked how he didn't come to me? Ethan said maybe because he didn't want help? Jay asked, is it because of me? Ethan said I don't think it's because of you.

Jay said okay thank you for talking with me. Ethan said you are welcome. Jay said well I am going to go back and sit down to wait for Will. Ethan said okay. Jay walked out of the room.

Jay did not get that far. When Haley steps in front of Jay. Haley said this is all your fault. You should have gone through with killing yourself. Haley was going to say more but Jay shoulder checked her.

Jay went outside in Hank 's car. Ethan told Hank that he would be right back. Hank said yeah thanks. Hank turns Haley to him. Hank said you don't say that to him at all.

Haley said what? What I said is true. Hank said get out of here now! Hank got his phone out of his pocket. Hank called the high ups and said I want Haley off my team now.

Hank told the high ups what was going on. One of the high ups said we heard because she came here and talked about it. And it was good that you didn't take Jay to the Psych word. Hank said thank you. The person said you are welcome.

The person said Haley will be off your team. Hank said thank you. The person said you are welcome. Then they got off the phone. Hank went to Will's room.

Ethan finds Jay and Ethan stops Jay shooting himself again. Jay gave the gun to Ethan. Ethan asked how did you get this gun? Jay said it's Kims.

Jay said she put it in her coat pocket. I guess she forgot it was in there. She took off her coat in Will's room. And she left to go do something and I was sitting across from her and I got up and took it. Ethan was mad but he didn't show it.

Ethan said come on. They got into Will's room. Ethan asked Alvin if he could stay with Jay. Alvin said yeah. Ethan left the room.

Ethan grabbed Kim's and Hank's arms. Ethan took them to the room that he and Jay were in early. Ethan pushed Kim in the room. He let go of Hank's arm. And he closed the door.

Kim said hey! What was that for? Ethan said be glad I did not hit you. Because the way I feel right now I want to. Hank asked what was going on?

Ethan said this idiot left her gun in her coat pocket and left the room knowing Jay tried to kill himself. Ethan pulled the gun out of his pocket. And hand it over to Hank. Hank said thank you. Ethan said you are welcome.

Hank turns to Kim. And said that I am disappointed in you. You knew Jay is not in the right mind right now. You are suspended for two days without pay. Go home.

Kim said I am sorry. Hank said please just go home. Kim said okay. Ethan, Kim, and Hank left the room. Jay saw Hank come into the room.

Jay said I am sorry. Hank said it will be okay. We will deal with this one problem at a time. Jay said okay. Adam came in with food and coffee.

Chapter Text

Chapter 6

Alvin and Hank said thank you. Adam said you are welcome. Adam gave Jay a kiss. Jay gave Adam a kiss back. They sat there talking and eating and drinking their coffee.

After a while they rolled in Will. They put the bed to stop and where the bed is locked into place. Jay and Herman said thank you. April said you are welcome. After that they left the room.

After an hour and half. Will woke up. Will looked around the room. And he saw Herman, Jay, Kelly, Alvin, and Hank in his room. Will asked what happened?

Hank said you got hurt at Conner house. And when they brought you here they saw what happened to you. Will said oh. Hank asked how come you didn’t come to me and told me what is going on? I could have helped you because I think of you and your brother as my son’s?

Hank said I am sorry Will that you felt that you couldn't come to me or your brother. Will said it is not your fault at all. Will said if Herman didn’t find out about my arm I would have a problem not being told. Hank asked why? Will said because everyone had a lot going on.

Will said plus I thought it was my fault that Connor was getting mad. Hank said this is never your fault. Will asked can I please talk to Jay and Hank alone for a minute? Everyone in the room said yeah. Everyone left the room but Hank. After Kelly shut the door.

Will asked Hank if he would move up the bed. Hank got up and helped sit up on the bed. Will said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Hank sat back down.

Will said for the longest time I thought it was me. But now I think it is just him and not me. Hank said that could be true. Will said maybe his dad use to hurt him and now he thinks it’s okay. Hank said yeah. After awhile Hank came outside of the room and asked Jay to come with him because Will wants to talk to him. Hank and Jay went back into the room and Jay could see Will had cried. Will said I know that you were not in an undercover job. Jay asked how did you know that? Will said because I went to go see mom that night but I saw Hank take the gun from you. Jay started to cry and say I am sorry.

Will asked, are you seeing someone to talk about what is going on? Jay said yes. Will said that is good. Jay said yeah. Will said I am really sorry.

Jay said it is all good. It’s not your fault. Hank said what we need to do is get together and sit down and talk. Will and Jay said we will do that now. Hank said I think we need to get together once a week every month and then once a week every other month.

Ethan came in and said to Jay if you want to talk to me like that, that will be fine with me as well. Jay said thank you. Ethan said you are welcome. Ethan said the reason why I came in here is because I wanted to check on you all. Will said okay thank you.

Ethan said you are welcome. Will said I am starting to hurt but I am used to it. Ethan said I will go get a nurse. Will said okay thank you. Ethan said you are welcome.
Ethan left the room. Jay got help and left. Jay asked Ethan if he had time to talk? Ethan said yeah hold on. Jay said okay thank you.

Ethan said you are welcome. Ethan went up to Maggie and asked her to get Will some pain pills. Maggie said okay. Ethan said come on with me. Jay and Ethan went into the room where they told people that their family member did not make it.

Ethan was about to ask what was up but Jay told Ethan what Will just said. Jay asked how do I look my brother in the eyes again? Or what do I say to him? Most of my problems are the army. Jay asked do you remember that little girl that came in here?

Ethan said yes. Jay said the reason why I almost killed myself the first time but Hank stopped me is because I am the one that shot the little girl. When I was in the army we tried to save some kids but one accident got us killed. It was my fault if I didn’t move, maybe that little girl would have still been here. In the same place that the little girl that was shot by my friend Candy died as well.

Ethan listened and when he got a chance to talk. He did and said it was not your fault you all did what you could. And as for you looking in Will’s eyes again it will take some time to do it again. Jay said did you know I was thinking of going back to the army to be with Mouse to make sure he was going to be okay. Ethan asked you where?

Jay said yeah. And maybe if I did he would not be missing right now. Ethan said you don’t know that! And who would be there for Will? Jay said would have Adam and Hank look after him.

Jay said but I am afraid to go back to the army as well. Like I NEVER want to go back. Ethan asked why? Jay said because of the little girl and also because I am afraid whoever has me in their group will do what my last boss did. Ethan asked what happened?

Jay told Ethan what happened. Ethan said I am so sorry. Jay said thank you. Ethan said you are welcome. Jay went up to Ethan and gave him a hug.

Chapter Text

Chapter 7

Jay was sleeping in Will's room to keep him calm and so he would not get bored and it was easier for Ethan to keep an eye on him. At that moment Jay was having a nightmare. Will woke up to Jay talking from his nightmare. Will had pushed the button for the nurses but they did not come.

Will started to get out of bed. But Ethan was walking by to look at the other patients in their beds. When he happened to look over to Will's room. Ethan turned and ran into Will’s room. Ethan opens the door.

Ethan yelled to Will to stay in bed. Will said I tried to call for a nurse but they would not come in and Jay is having a nightmare. Ethen asked where is your phone? Will said I think it is broken in the fire at Connor place. Ethan said oh.

Ethan said will I get this. Will said okay thank you. Ethan said you are welcome. Ethan went up to Jay. Ethan shaked Jay awake and moved back so Jay would not hit him.

Jay woke up and looked around. Jay said sorry. Ethan and Will said it is okay. Hank came in with coffee. Hank said here you go.

Jay said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Ethan went up to Will and checked to see if he ripped anything open. But Will looked just fine. After that Ethan turned to Jay and asked to talk to him.

Jay said yeah. Ethan and Jay left the room. They got to the doctor's locker room. Ethan asked if that nightmare was bad. Jay just signed and said yes it is that bad.

Ethan gave Jay a book to write down things. Ethan said this helps me out a lot. I thought maybe it will also help you. Jay said thank you. Ethan said you are welcome.

It was a month later. Jay was getting better. Thanks to Ethan. Jay was in the hospital to visit Will and Ethan. Jay gave Ethan a bottle of Jack Daniel’s.

Ethan said thank you. Jay said you are welcome. Ethan was about to ask something but Will's new phone went off. And Will was getting looked at to see if he can go home which will be with Hank and Jay. Jay went into the room and got the phone.

Jay said hello. The nurse on the phone said is this William Halstead? Jay said no but this is his phone. The nurse said I need to speak to him. Jay asked why?

The nurse said well I need to talk to him because we have his brother Jay Halstead here in the hospital. Jay said what no. The nurse said I got his dog tags here right now. Jay said well that is not Will’s brother. The nurse was getting rude and being mean.

The nurse asked how would you know that? Jay said because you are talking to Jay Halstead. The nurse said yeah right. Jay said I gave my dog tags to a friend of mine. He went back to the army.

The nurse said yeah right. Jay just got mad and hung up. Jay said I will be right back to Ethan. Ethan asked are you okay? Jay said yeah.

Jay did not think he took Will’s phone with him. Ethan had a bad feeling about this. Ethan pulled his phone out and tried to get a hold of Hank. But Hank would not answer. Ethan called mrs. Goodwin.

Mrs. Goodwin said hello. Ethan asked Mrs. Goodwin if he could go with Jay because Will got a call but Jay answered his phone. Mrs. Goodwin said yeah that is fine and be careful. Ethan said okay thank you. Mrs. Goodwin said you are welcome.

They got off the phone. Jay was yelling at the nurse that was on the phone when Ethan and Hank got there. Hank asked what is going on here? Jay told them what happened. The doctor and everyone around there was mad at the nurse.

The head nurse said you are fired. The nurse said what! The head nurse said go. The nurse said fine. The nurse left.

Jay said my brother, a friend named Adam Ruzek, and my boss Hank Voight are my medical proxies should I not be able to. I don’t understand why she just called Will and not the other two and would have known that I was not in the hospital even though I said that. The doctor said I don’t know. The doctor asked why are you all here? Jay said to clear up this mess and to prove that I am Jay Halstead and not whoever is in the hospital bed.

The doctor asked how are you going to do that? Jay said here is my driver license. And my boss is here as well. The doctor looked at it. The doctor said oh crap.

Jay said I gave my dog tags to a friend. And I just got his dog tags because he is missing in action. So I don’t know how my dog tags got here. The doctor started to describe Mouse. Jay said oh my gosh.

The doctor asked what? Jay said I think that is my friend. The doctor looked shocked then sad. Jay asked what? The doctor said come with me.

Chapter 8

Jay follows the doctor. What Jay saw he wanted to freak out. Mouse was laying there. Jay could see that his left leg from his kneecap was gone and he was bruised all over.

And his left arm from the elbow down was also gone. Jay felt like he was going to be sick. He gave his phone to Hank and asked him to call the sergeant that came to him and tell them they found Mouse. Hank said yeah. Jay said thank you.

Hank said you are welcome. Jay turned to the doctor and said this is doctor Ethan Choi from Gaffney Chicago med. I would like for him to look at him also. I would like for him to be moved to that hospital because my brother is there and I need to make sure they are both okay. The doctor said okay.

Jay said thank you. The doctor said you are welcome. After Ethan looked Mouse over to make sure everything was good. Ethan and Jay left the room and went outside. Ethan asked are you okay?

Jay said yeah. Ethan said I don’t think it will be okay for you to stay at the hospital all the time. Jay said what about Will and Mouse beside myself the only one that cares for him is the people that I work with? And I am the only family Will has.Ethan said you can ask the people that you work with to watch Mouse and you got Hermann and his wife.

Jay said yeah okay. Ethan said you still need to look out for yourself. Jay said yeah okay. Ethan said good. Ethan said come on.

Chapter 9

All the nurses heard what happened to the other nurse and one of them was friends with that nurse that got fired. So she thought she can keep Mouse here. Hank gives Jay his phone back. Jay told Hank what Ethan said.

Hank said okay I will see who can help out. Jay said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Jay asked can you please not have Hailey look after Will or Mouse please and thank you. Hank said I will try.

Hank said you are welcome. Jay said if Hailey has to look after one of them I would like to know. Hank said okay. Jay said thank you. Hank said you are welcome.

Ethan was trying to get the nurse to get everything ready to move Mouse over. But the nurse would not do it. Ethan was getting mad. So he called Mrs. Goodwin. But Mrs. Goodwin would not answer her phone.

So Ethan called doctor Charles. Dr. Charles answered on the third ring. Before doctor Charles could say anything Ethan said I need your help with something. Dr. Charles said okay. He asked what can I do for you?

Ethan said this hospital that Greg Gerwitz is at the nurse is being uncooperative. Dr. Charles asked, "Is that Mouse right? Ethan said yes. Dr. Charles asked what was going on? So Ethan told doctor Charles what was going on.

Doctor Charles said give me the phone. Ethan said okay thank you. Doctor Charles said you are welcome. Ethan gave his phone to the nurse. The nurse went to say something but doctor Charles started to talk.

Doctor Charles said I am taking over the treatment for Mr Greg Gerwitz and requesting he be transferred over to Gaffney because he is going to be needing to see someone that he can talk to and is trained in psychiatry. The nurse said fine, we will be moving him to you guys. The nurse left the room and got the paperwork.

The nurse came back and she threw the paperwork at Ethan. Ethan looked at Hank and he asked can you please call your husband?

Hank was about to ask why? But the nurse said rudely why would you need to call his husband. Ethan said because this is twice now that this hospital has been giving my friend and I a hard time and I don’t trust you to get us there safely. Hank said I'm on it.

Ethan said thank you. Hank said you are welcome. Hank pulled out his phone and he called his husband. Wallace answered the phone.

Wallace said Boden here. Hank said hey baby I was wondering if I can borrow ambulance 61. Wallace asked why? Hank told Wallace what had been going on. Wallace said so that is why Jay was at the house.

Hank said yes. Wallace said yeah I will go and get ambulance 61 there. Hank said thank you. Wallace said you are welcome. He said I love you.

Hank said I love you too. And he said goodbye. Wallace said goodbye. They got off the phone. Hank told Ethan that ambulance 61 will be here.

Ethan said okay that is good. Hank said yep. Jay asked who is with Will right now? Hank turns and says Adam. Jay said that is good.

Jay said I will be right back. Hank gave a look to Jay and Jay said don’t worry I will be right outside of the room. Hank said okay. Jay left the room.

True to his word they could see him. He called Adam. Adam answers on the second ring. Adam said hey babe. Jay said hey baby.

Jay asked how is Will? Adam said he is good he can go home tomorrow and he is staying with the Herman’s. Jay said that is good. Adam could hear in his voice that he was disappointed that Will was not staying with Jay. Adam said when Will came back into the room he asked where his phone was so he could talk to the Herrmann's

Jay felt another phone in his pocket and he said oops sorry. He said just tell Will I will text the Herrmann's for him because I still have his phone. Adam said okay. Jay said thank you.

Adam said you are welcome. Adam asked do you want to talk to Will? Jay said not right now. Adam said okay. He said love you and goodbye.

Jay said love you to and goodbye. They got off the phone. Adam said Jay accidentally took your phone with him. Adam said that Jay said that he will text the Herrmann's for you. Will said okay thank you.

Adam said you are welcome. Will asked how did he sound? Adam said good. Will said that is good. But Will could tell Adam was not telling him the truth at all.

Jay pulled out Will’s phone. And he texted Herrmann. Like he said he would and he pulled up Herrmann's messages.

Jay/ Will: Hey I get to come home tomorrow

Herman: That is good

Jay/Will: Could I stay with you and your family for a little bit

Herman: Yeah

Jay/Will: Thank you

Herman: You are welcome

Jay pulled out his phone and he pulled up Adam's message and he messaged Adam. He asked him to let Will know what Herrmann had said.

Jay: Hey can you please let Will know that Herrmann said that he and his family is fine with Will stay with them

Adam: Yeah

Jay: Thank you

Adam: You are welcome

Jay: Love you

Adam put his phone away and he said Jay said that Herman said that it is fine that you can stay with him and his family. Will said okay thank you. Adam said you are welcome. Will asked if they are on their way yet?

Adam said I don’t know. Will said okay. Will asked why did Jay take my phone with him? Adam said I don’t know. Will just kept silent.

Will just happened to look out the window of his room. That's when he saw Ethan, Brett, and Violet come in with Mouse. Will asked what happened? Adam asked with what? Will said look.

Adam got up and looked and he said oh my gosh. He said I don’t know. Will said go and see what is wrong. Adam said okay.

But before Adam could get up Jay came into the room and Will went to ask what happened? But Jay said don’t worry about it. He said I will tell you later what is going on. Will said okay.

Will asked is this going to set you back? Jay said no I am going to try and talk and work through this. Will said okay. He said if you ever need to talk to someone I am here for you. Jay said okay thank you.

Will said you are welcome. It was a couple of hours later. Mouse woke up. Mouse started to panic. Jay said Mouse it’s okay.

Jay said it's me Jay. Mouse asked, are you really here Jay? Jay brought Mouse’s right hand to his chest and He let Mouse feel his heart. After a while Mouse let his hand down.

Mouse said thank you. Jay said you are welcome. Jay then asked do you remember what happened? Mouse said I don’t know.

Jay said hold on. Mouse said okay. Jay walked out of the room and he went up to the nurse station. All the nurses were busy.

Jay tried to get one of them to talk to him but they were working on their patients. So Jay saw that Doctor Reese was coming by. Jay said I know all of you are busy right now. He said but I really need to speak to Doctor Charles.

Doctor Reese said yeah hold on she pulled out her phone out of her coat and paged Doctor Charles to come down to the ED.

Doctor Charles comes down to the ED and he walks up to Jay. Before they could say anything. Jay started to say something. He said Mouse is awake right now. He said but he doesn’t know what happened.

Jay said the doctor at the hospital that he was at, at first said that all that was wrong with him was bruising, left hand up to his elbow, and his right knee down. He said I asked Mouse if he remembered what happened and Jay said he doesn't know.

Doctor Charles said okay I will go let him know what is going on and give him a quick assessment.

Doctor Charles could tell Jay is worried about Mouse so he pages Ethan and guys him to come down to the ED and when Ethan steps out the elevator he goes over to Jay and Doctor Charles.

Doctor Charles looks at Ethan and gives him a look that says he needs to talk to Jay. Ethan nodded his head to say I got it. Doctor Charles left. Ethan pulled Jay to the doctor's locker room. Ethan pulled out a chair for Jay to take.

Ethan asked are you okay? Jay said I don’t think so. He said I got alot on my mind and right now I don’t know what to do about it. Ethan asked have you left the hospital in a while? Jay said not since Will got here.

Ethan asked can’t you ask someone to stay here with Mouse right now? Jay said I don’t know because the last I knew everyone was at work. He said and if it was Hailey here I would still be in the hospital. Ethan asked why? Jay said you know why.

Ethan asked because of what she said to you? Jay said yeah. Ethan said okay. He said go and sit with Will. Jay said Herman is with him right now. Ethan said okay.

Ethan said okay just rest in here until doctor Charles is done. Jay said okay. He just laid his head on his hands on the table. Ethan left the room. And he pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Ethan called Hank. Hank said Voight. Ethan said I need you to come to the hospital and take Jay home. He said him being here right now is not helping him out right now. Hank said okay.

Ethan said Jay would like someone to be here for Mouse. He said because Herman is with Will. Hank said I will have Kim sitting with him. Ethan said thank you. Hank said you are welcome.

They got off the phone. Ethan went to the nurse station. Doctor Charles came out and he went up to Ethan. Ethan asked how the conversation went?.

Doctor Charles said he is going to need Jay and everyone that is in the intelligence unit. Ethan asked does he need him right now? Doctor Charles said not right now. Ethan said Hank and Kim from pd will be right down here soon. Doctor Charles said okay.

Doctor Charles asked how is the youngest Halstead doing? Ethan just signed. Doctor Charles asked that bad? Ethan said yeah. Doctor Charles asked do you need my help with him?

Ethan said no but maybe Doctor Reese could help him instead and show him that he has Will, Mouse, and the rest of the intelligence unit he can go to if he needs to. Doctor Charles said okay.Just then Hank and Kim came in. Ethan pointed to the doctor’s locker room for Hank and pointed to the room for Kim that was Mouse’s room. Hank nodded in thanks and so did Kim.

Hank went into the doctor’s locker room. He put his hand on Jay's shoulder and woke him up. Jay asked can I go see Mouse? Hank said maybe tomorrow. Jay said okay.

Jay asked who is in the room with Mouse right now? Hank said Kim. Jay said okay. He said you might want to tell kim that he is haves nightmare and what you do is say it is okay little brother. He said and if he asks if you are really here then you take your hand and take his right hand and put it on your chest.

Hank said okay. He said thank you for letting me know. Jay said you are welcome. Hank pulled his phone out of his pants pocket. And he calls Kim.

Kim answers her phone on the third ring. Kim said yes boss. Hank told Kim what Jay said to do. Kim said okay thank you. Hank said you are welcome.

Kim said goodbye. Hank said goodbye. They got off the phone. Hank asked do you want to go to my house? Jay said please.

Hank said okay. Hank calls Wallace. Wallace answered the phone on the fourth ring. Before Wallace could asked what is up? Hank asked is the guest room still set up?

Wallace said no I will need to set it up. Hank was about to say okay never mind I will do that when I get home. But Wallace asked is Jay coming over? Hank said yes. Wallace said okay I will have that set up.

Wallace asked are you all hungry? Hank said yes. Wallace asked what do you all want? Hank said spaghetti and meatballs if we have that? Wallace said yes.

Hank said thank you. Wallace said you are welcome. He said love you. Hank said love you to. He said goodbye.

Wallace said goodbye. And then they got off the phone. Jay said thank you so much for helping me out. Hank said no problem at all. They got out and went into Hank and Wallace’s house.

Wallace said food and the guess room is ready. Hank and Jay said thank you. Wallace said you are welcome. Wallace said I hate to do this but I got work early in the morning. Hank and Jay said that is fine.

Hank and Jay got their food and eat. After they were done they wash and put away the dishes. Jay said well I am going to bed. Hank said yeah me to. Jay said goodnight.

Hank said goodnight. They went to the rooms that they are staying in. Once Jay’s head hit the pillow he was out like a light. It took Hank a good three hours before he could go to sleep. When he was just about to go to sleep he got a texts.

Kim: Thank you for the heads up about Mouse.

Hank: You are welcome. How is he really?

Kim: Just had a nightmare. And now is asleep
Hank: Okay. Try to get some sleep yourself

Kim: Okay goodnight

After that Hank got to sleep. It was not that good of a sleep. Because he was really worried about Mouse, Will, and Jay. Hank woke up. And he left the room and went into the kitchen.

Hank called Herman. Herman answered on the third ring. Hank says hi. Herman says hi. Hank asked how is Will?

Herman said he is good. Hank said that is good. And then he asked when should Jay and I come over for dinner? Herman said in a few days. Hank said okay.

Hank said thank you. Herman said you are welcome. They got off the phone. Jay asked how is Will? Hank said he is good.

It was a few months later.

Mouse was at the academy to tell people about computers and how some cops msy use a technical analyst in some units.Mouse would focus on one of the people that was there. Which was Dante Torres. So on the last day of Mouse teaching at the academy Dante went up to Mouse.

Dante asked would you like to go on a date. Mouse said I don’t think that is a good idea right now. Dante asked why? Mouse said well for one you are trying to be a cop.

Mouse said and I'm your teacher. Dante asked are you coming back? Mouse said today is my last day. Dante said and I should be done soon. Mouse said look I would like nothing more than to go out on a date with you.

Dante said but I feel like there is a butt in there. Mouse said because there is. Mouse said look at me. Dante said I am. Mouse said no really look at me. Dante said I am.

Mouse asked what do you see? Dante said a handsome looking person. Mouse said that is what you might see. He said but I don’t. Dante asked why?

Mouse just signed. And he said because of this. And he took off his left arm and then he put it back on. And then he pulled up his right leg pants and pulled his leg off. Mouse said a few months ago I got use to these.

Dante said like I just said you are handsome. Mouse just signed and said fine one date. Dante said that’s all I am asking for. And he said thank you. Mouse said you are welcome.

Mouse said well my older brother should be here soon. Dante asked you have a brother? Mouse said he not my brother by blood. Dante said oh okay. Mouse said yeah..

Cindy called Jay. Jay answered his phone. Cindy said hi. Jay said hi. Jay asked is Will okay?

Cindy said yeah he is. Jay said that is good. Cindy said yeah. She said the reason why I am calling you is because I wanted to see if you, Hank, and Wallace wanted to come over to have dinner? Jay said I will ask Hank and Wallace if they want to.

Cindy said okay. Jay said if they don’t want to I will be more than okay to come by myself. Cindy said okay. She said please let me know. Jay said I will.

Cindy said thank you. Jay said you are welcome. Cindy said goodbye. Jay said goodbye. Jay went up to Hank’s office.

Jay knocked on the door. Hank said it’s open. Jay open the door and went in. Hank asked what can I do for you Jay? Jay closed the door.

Jay said Cindy just called me. Hank went to ask is Will okay. But Jay beat him to it. Jay said that she said that he is okay. Jay said she wanted to know if we as in you, Wallace, and I wants to go over to her house to have dinner.

Jay said that I said that I would get back to her. And he said that I said that if you and Wallace doesn’t want to come then I will be going by myself. Hank said I will get back to you. Jay said okay. And he got up.

Jay left the office. Hank called Boden. Boden answer the phone. He said hi. Hank said hi. And he told Wallace what Cindy and Jay had said.

Wallace said yeah we can. Hank said okay. Wallace said I will let Herman know. Hank said okay. He said love you bye.

Wallace said love you to by. After that they got off the phone. Wallace went to his door and open it went to go get Herman. Jerry Gorsch asked why is your door closed? He said you know how I feel about that.

Wallace just went past Gorsch. And he went into the kitchen/living room. And he went up to Herman. Herman said hey chief. Wallace said call or text your wife and please let her know whenever she would like Hank, Jay, and I over there to please let me know.

Herman said okay. Wallace said thank you. Herman said you are welcome. Wallace left. And Herman text his wife.

Herman: The chief said whenever you want Hank, Jay, and the chief over to let me know to let them know

Cindy: Tomorrow. Say 5

Herman: Okay

Herman got up and went to the chief office. Herman knocked on the door. Wallace said it is open. Herman open the door. He went in and closed the door behind him.

Herman said she said tomorrow. He said say 5. Wallace said okay that works for us. He said see you then. Herman said yeah.

Herman left the office. Wallace called Hank. Hank answered the phone. He was about to say hi. But Wallace said tomorrow at 5.
