Shit... forgetting the sunblock today of all days, Felicity is gonna kill me, thought Kit as he looked himself up and down in the full-length hotel mirror.
Any hint of sun and she tells me I've got to apply the sunblock. So why today when I've got like what? Kit looks frantically round his room for a clock. Grabbing his phone. Shit... six hours. I mean at least I'm not burnt to a crisp, but I can see them already. Hopefully the fans won't see them though. At least the shirt Fliss has for me only shows my forearms, they'll hardly be visible.
"Hey... pssssst, he's thinking loudly to himself again" One said, hoping Two was listening.
"Yeah, he does get really stressy doesn't he" giggled Two.
"Oh, hey Two! You’re here, how's things?"
"Yeah, good thanks, how's things with you? Is he anxious again?"
"Yeah, but he knows how much the fans adore us, I think he just wants to protect us. But hey, it's been a cracking summer hasn't it, I've been out so much more this year. Forty said something about some climate crisis or something. I'm just glad we're here and we come as part of this guy though, I really like him."
"Me too….. So, what's happening tonight then?" asked Two.
"It’s the Vogue World party. He's got some flash outfit and we're gonna see Joe and Will and a whole bunch of other people. It’s so exciting. I heard him talking to someone, I’m sure that Maisie Williams is going to be there, I hope he gets a picture with her”.
"Oh yeah, I really like her, a photo would be great. It’s so exciting I can't wait. And then it'll be the socials tomorrow won't it?"
"And you know we'll be the stars of the socials, don't you... all that lip biting and melting" laughed One. “I’ve heard some fans like to throw themselves on the floor and stuff, but I don’t like it when they say they’re gonna die.”
"Yeah me neither. Hey, it looks like the others are coming too…. The fans are gonna love this.” Two almost squealed.
“Awww you know, I was kind of enjoying a bit of me and you time.” One replied quietly.
“Well, we are a lot closer together than any of the others, so maybe we can just whisper?”
Kit jumped suddenly hearing a knock on his hotel room door. That’ll be Fliss and Brady… better get this over with. Sheepishly, he opened the door, immediately faced with a whole ensemble of different people, stylists, make up artists and of course Fliss and Brady.
“Fliss, it’s not as bad as it looks, I kind of just forgot the sunblock today, and well….” he said looking down.
“What Kit….no, we’re not forgetting the sunblock again, are we? Let me see… Ok, we’re not too bad, the shirt will cover most, but we’ve got to keep these guys safe. You know what happens on the socials when the fans see them.”
“See, they’re talking about us now, they’re getting all protective again… it’s cute!” Two whispered to One.
“Well, we need protecting. I mean we’re kind of what makes him look so gorgeous.” One giggled. “You’re not looking too bad yourself though Two, it must be all that vitamin D…”
“Hey One, are you flirting with me? You really should stop, you’re gonna make me blush.”
“Flirting??? You know we’ve kind of like, lived with each other for nineteen years, right? I’d say we’re more than just BFFs.” One explained. “I hate it that we get such shitty weather here, but then with him jet setting all over these days, I might get to actually see you more than just two months of the year. I kind of like you”.
“You like me?” asked Two. “I… I like you too”.
“Wasn’t that obvious? Now who’s being cute?” One whispered, hoping the growing number of others around them weren’t listening. The chatter was becoming louder, the excitement about the party no longer contained. Knowing how much they’d be talked about on the socials tomorrow was just too much for some of them.
Five hours later, Kit had been showered, again, scrubbed, plucked, shaved, make up applied and hair styled, Brady announced that he was ready.
“Shit he looks good, doesn’t he? And look! You can still see us, they’ve done an amazing job, he looks perfect.”
“Easy One, you’re gonna bust something if you carry on like this”.
“Well how can I not… I mean there’s him and remember….. I’m still next to you.”
“Yeah, but you know we won’t be here for much longer right? It’s cooling down now…..”
“Stop it, you’re not allowed to talk like that, I mean, sorry, but I hate to think I won’t see you till who knows when.”
“Hey you’re not allowed to say the S word, Two. Remember… no being sad on our big party nights, let’s just enjoy what we’ve got for now.”
“But you’re starting to fade already, One, It’s not fair, we never get to spend much time together.”
“Two, stop it please… you know we’re here forever, right? We just might not be visible all the time, but we’re here. Come on, chin up, this is gonna be fun, our fans want us!!!”.
Making his way downstairs, Kit headed to the party. The lights from the flashing cameras invaded the dark space in the back of the car, getting brighter with shouts of “Kit! over here!” as soon as he opened the door.
“We’re here… Hi Joe, hi everyone….. They love him, everyone’s taking pictures of him, and listen, they’re shouting his name.. One look…One… One??? No. It’s too early, you can’t leave me yet, we’ve got the whole party to go, we’ve got the stars to mingle with, and then the after party. Why now? You could’ve... could’ve stayed.”
“I’m still here, Two. Remember, freckles never really go, I’m not fully faded yet, we’ll stay together no matter what, our fans need us.”
