Chapter Text
“ 𝐵𝐴𝑁𝐼𝑆𝐻𝑀𝐸𝑁𝑇?! ”
Varian Had widened his eyes, staring up at the king who sent a cold glare down to the boy who was handcuffed.
A collectible Amount of gasps was heard at the final verdict, Varian seeming to start shaking. “No— no please! I was just trying to help my dad!” He pleaded, a few distant whispering Behind the boys back.
“I said what I said. Your crimes against Corona have stretched further than I thought they did.” Fredrick Spoke in a stern tone.
Rapunzel glanced at Varian A look of concern painted on her features, she turned to her father. “Dad— your majesty please! I’m—“ Fredrick raised a hand to dismiss the princes, she went quiet, the blonde tearing her gaze off Varian, a feeling of guilt pinged into her chest.
“I Hereby Give the final Judgment. Varian Alderidge, You are hereby Banned from corona’s land.” He gave the verdict leaving the boy with tears.
“What about my dad?!— he— he’s still in the Amber!” He yelled, frustration Raising deep inside him.
“.. we will personally take care of Quirin—“
“I’ll keep an eye on him kid..” eugune spoke from behind rapunzel. He hated this, varian being banished— sure the kid did.. a lot in hopes Of helping his father, of course he was going to be punished but he’d still a kid.. 14 exactly.
“… Thank you Eugune” the boy spoke, his voice breaking while trying to stop himself from crying in front of everyone yet.. he had tears in his eyes that threatened to fall.
Just had the verdict came to a final, the boy was pulled away by one of the guards, he was then dragged outside the castle, Varian received A few glares from villagers, he frowned in response, being pulled by his arm, the chains clinking against the Stone.
The guard pulled the boy to the bridge at the main entrance to the Area, he took off the cuffs and chains, putting down a backpack of small Things. The guard bowed his head and turned, simply leaving him— not before a poster of Varian was put up on a banned board Nearby.
Varian was quiet, looking down at his hands, the cuffs were rather tight, leaving a mark around his wrist that he saw one pulling back his gloves. The young alchemist fell to his knees as the tears he tried to stop fell out from his eyes and down his cheeks, his trembling hands opening the backpack to view its contents.
He had a bag of food that was packed, a sleeping bag, basic necessities, some of his old notes that Rapunzel must’ve slipped in, as he wasn’t able to bring his personal belongings from his lap, his eyes widened slightly, soon giving in as he cried.
He really was alone now, his father still encased in the Amber, he felt a little glad that he was being looked after by eugune, but still that never would’ve happened if it wasn’t for rapunzel to which he still disliked her for that, but now what.
The boy was silent, his gloved hands covering his face, the tears hitting against the leather of his gloves. He simply should give up— his eyes widened at the sound of a familiar Sound, he lifted his head from his hands to see Ruddiger running across the bridge.
“Ru— ruddiger!” The boy scrambled up to his feet, almost tripping before rushing to the animal, hugging him tightly while the raccoon jumped into his arms.
Ruddiger licked the tears from his face, the animal trying his hardest to cheer him up, Varian in response had given the raccoon a small Smile, the tears coming to a halt. He wasn’t.. truly alone.. he still had *someone* despite it being an animal..
Varian closed the bag, zipping it up and slinging it onto his bag before turning back to the castle, he couldn’t go back there— or to old Corona.. he would get caught.. but.. he has to say goodbye.
As quick as his feet could carry him Varian would then run to old Corona, the route being familiar.. the flashback of him running through the snow to get help— only this time.. it was.. different. Now winded Varian walked up the stairs to his lab, walking inside to see the broken drill— the same drill he used to try and free his father, the scattered notes across the space with different formulas, the biggest thing was his father encased in the middle, the Amber glistening slightly.
Varian sucked in a breath Before sitting on the floor, crossing his legs.
“Hey dad.. I—.. I don’t know if you can hear me.. but I tried— I really did try to help you but.. I did some things and now I have to leave— I erm.. won’t be back.. but— but eugune will take care of you..”
He said, tears forming in his eyes again, Varian stood up to his feet, putting a hand on the Amber as his thumb rubbed it with a frown. The boy sighed “I know I failed.. I couldn’t make you proud.. I just— I disappointed you but I think it’s better that I Completely stop..” he paused, inhaling deeply. “I should’ve listened to you when you said to leave the rocks alone— I should’ve—“
He fell silent, hearing the door to his lab open and shut. Varian put his head against the Amber before taking a pile of his notes, shoving them into his bag before picking up ruddiger and making a run for another exit. He wiped the tears from his eyes before he ran— running away from the lap, slipping through a crack as he left old Corona.
The boy ventured past the familiar settings, walking past many things he knew, the snuggly duckling being one of those places, he wished it hadn’t come to this.
Weeks had gone past of Varian just.. walking, he was now running low on supplies, food.. after, the lot of it.
The boy came to a stop at a cave, he sighed, pulling his backpack from his back into his hands to pull out a sleeping bag, getting ready to take a rest before something caught his eye, a light source at the end of the cave, he hesitantly followed the source, ruddiger following behind varian. As the young Alchemist pushed through he came to a stop, looking down at a large village area. His eyes widened at the sight, seeing many rows of houses, large trees.. something from a Disney movie.
Varian sucked in breath before slowly descending down the hill, making sure not trip and fall. Each step the boy got closer, as Varian now stood behind a house he sighed, he didn’t want to be found, he didn’t want.. to be caught and such so Varian put a smaller bag on ruddiger, making sure it was secure before putting in a few coins he had swiped from his lap.
“Okay, I need you to go and get some food and some water for us okay? Can you do that buddy?”
The raccoon chittered before scurrying off to complete the task, Varian sighed and decided to sit and hide behind some boxes to wait for ruddiger.
Unknown to Varian a group of kids was playing with their ball, kicking it between them, that was until the ball flew over varians head making him flinch as the ball rolled over, one girl With pigtails had kicked the ball to far resulting in one— certain coffee loving kid to complain.
“Cecilia! You’ve kicked the ball to far, now we’ve lost it” he sighed with a frown, the girl— Cecilia Shook her head. “It’s okay I’ll go find it, I did lose it..” she replied, jogging over to find it While her two friends stayed behind, Alejandra trying to get the cup of coffee away from her friend.
On the other hand, Cecilia walked over to grab the ball, coming face to face with Varian, she stood silent mutter the words “Camilo” with a confused tone, rendering Varian confused. Camilo?.. who’s that— no matter, the girl simply stared at Varian before letting out a scream, running away even leaving the ball on the floor.
“There’s someone over there!“ the little girl yelled in a panic, terror in her tone, and fear in her eyes. Her friends turned to the girl in shock.
by this revelation The girl ran off in fear, followed by her friends, leaving Varian in a state of panic. He quickly got up to his feet before making a break for it, he knew how well ruddiger’s sense of smell was, he was certain the raccoon would find him. While he was running— making sure he was hidden He had heard the distant panic caused by the children about his appearance.
Unknown to him, two of the madrigal Children— Dolores and Isabella Sat crouched down, the two young women expecting the boy. Dolores Raised her hand, using her gift to locate the intruder. After a few more moments Dolores Swung her hand down. “Now!”
Varian continued to run— his lungs burning, panting faintly, he knew he should’ve joined eugune on those runs but nooo, he was in his lab. The alchemist jumped over a box, crouching down behind it to catch his breath. When he was able to he made a quick Rush for an exit, as he stepped forward he felt himself unable to move.
He let out an audible gasp before his hands and Legs were bound by… vines?.
“Wh— what..” he struggled, trying to pull away from the vines. ‘Well.. this felt familiar’ he thought, his eyes darting Around.
Both Isabella and Dolores emerged from their hiding spot, as the two women Came out a crowd of villages also came to inspect the intruder. Dolores Examined the boy in slight shock. “A kid?..” she’d question, glancing as Isabella who looked at Varian with a stern glare.
“Keep struggling and they’ll get Tighter.” She announced, Varian looking at the two unsure on what and how to even respond. At the two women kept their guards up that was until Their abuela walked to the commotion her stern gaze glued to the boy.
“Thank you girls..”
