Our dearly beloved Atsushi from canon and our deeply hurt Atsushi from BEAST switch places. It's less like accidentally walking into a circus and more like being violently drop-kicked into a burning swamp. With mutant alligators. And trauma.
“Atsushi-kun, are you alright?”
That is a funny question for all of two seconds before he registers the name. Atsushi-kun.
He almost chokes on his own spit. The Agency people stare at him in concern, like they're confused to see him unwell, when he’s definitely attacked them before. His senses are in overdrive. The infirmary has three possible exits and he has a clear view of all of them—he's cornered in which isn't the best for movement but good for sight—and then he moves on to an attack plan because no man calls him Atsushi-kun except for Dazai, and the man staring back at him is definitely not Dazai.

Summary
Dazai’s day started like any other one. He woke up, got dressed, ate shitty takeout from yesterday's dinner and arrived at work at a reasonable time of exactly 1 hour 9 minutes late. Pushing the door open with a slam he entered the ADA, but instead of Kunkida’s grating voice reaching his ears… the office was quiet.
Not peaceful quiet, or early morning quiet, but wrong quiet.
Looking around, everyone was there. Tanizaki and Naomi were whispering together in a corner to quiet even for him to catch. Kunikida was pacing anxiously, Ranpo was sitting on his desk seemingly deep in thought next to Yosano whose expression was unreadable. Even Kenji wasn’t smiling, sitting on the couch with Kyoka, his hat clutched in his lap.
OR: Atsushi and Akutagawa from the BEAST universe are sent to the original universe through ability shenanigans.

"Listen up, slug. Out of all the things I could do, sending Atsushi inside the Port mafia headquarters by himself is the worst one I can think of. Now, I can't come in there, so take him to that abandoned warehouse that used to be a trading place for the mafia until like a year ago. I'll be there."
"Wait, how do you know about that...?"
But Dazai already hung up.
(Or, instead of firing him from the Port Mafia, beast Dazai (some time after his death) makes Atsushi transport into the og universe to show him what could be lost if he and Akutagawa failed to protect Yokohama from enemy organisations. The thing is, Dazai never told Atsushi he was planning on doing any of that.)
