Chapter 1: Rating Ships in Wings of Fire

Chapter Text

Starspeaker (Starflight/Fatespeaker): 3/10 (Sorry to those Starspeaker fans)

This ship is not developed at all and it kinda came out of nowhere, the few times this ship was actually expressed is when Fatespeaker sees Starflight for the first time in the Darkest Secret, and thinks, OOooohhhhhhh, this dragon is gonna be in my life, it's love at first sight, it was totally random and came out of nowhere. Like if it were in the real world, this person sees this other person and thinks they're going to be their husband, probably just a crush and really out of the scenario. Also, Fatespeaker acts like an obnoxious dragonet which doesn't really match Starflight's calm personality although it says opposites attract, and in Starflight's POV, he was thinking of Sunny the whole time and never really about Fatespeaker. This ship was also rather forced in at the last second. Overall, not my favourite ship, not very developed at all.

Moonbli (Moonwatcher/Qibli): 4/10

This ship is very cute, it expresses Moonbli's love in several moments, and their personalities rather match with Moon being shy and Qibli being outgoing, however, this ship is somehow always being carried by Qibli, Qibli listens to Moon, Qibli cares about Moon, Qibli helps Moon, never once did Moon help or support his trauma as a young dragonet, and seriously, trying to convince Qibli that Winter was alright. Girl, do you think being banished by your family, sacrificing your own place in the Kingdom for your brother and having half your tribe die alright, you little-

Qinter (Qibli/Winter): 10/10

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, this ship, although not canon, is great. In Moon Rising, their moment when there're introducing themselves is AMAZING. When I saw Qibli's expression, I immediately shipped. I love how these two dragons love to tease each other, it actually develops, from reluctant roommates to best mates (*cough cough), and Moon, although her book was great, her character or her relationship never really develops, her personality went from great to meh through the series. She went from anxious and scared then to really confident all of a sudden, excuse me, anxiety isn't a flaw that you can get rid of REALLY QUICKLY, it's something a lot of people have to deal with in their entire lifetime. Back to Qinter, best ship ever, just wish there were a few more moments between them.

Cleril (Clay/Peril): 9/10

Ok, most people say this ship is unhealthy (and I kinda agree about that), but, hear me out, I love how Clay's just always there for Peril, and how he's like the only dragon that feels and shows kindness to her. Peril, on the other hand, is, umm, somewhat obsessive, even wanting to go this far to commit murder for Clay, it's rather sweet, showing how they care for each other, but it's also rather toxic, so I give it a 7/10.

Edit (2025): Nevermind, I love Peril, she is so misunderstand and she was raised as a killer by one of the meanest queens in Pyrrhia so very different from normal dragons. I also get why she loves Clay, I mean he was the first to actually care about her and that is so nice. #ClayNeedsToNoticePeril

Turtlejou (Turtle/Kinkajou): 8/10

This ship is sweet, I like Turtle's nervousness and Kinkajou's amazing WHAM BAM SHOVE A PINEAPPLE UP HIS SNOUT personality. But similar to Starspeaker, this ship was really random and out of context and it was introduced in THE NINTH BOOK, bro, although Moonbli or Winterwatcher are not great ships, they're not random, it went through a process instead of one moment, Turtle, cool, normal really shy Seawing prince, to OH MY GOD, KINKAJOU, I LIKE YOU. But, this ship is cute, the characters are amazing, so although introduced a bit late, still worked out fine (apart from Anemone applying a love spell).

Winterwatcher (Winter/Moonwatcher): 1/10

Umm, not much I can say. Winter liked Moon. Moon liked Qibli. Winter is heartbroken. Winter threw everything away for Moon, his family, his place in the Icewing Kingdom, what did she do? Went for Qibli, expected Winter to be alright about that, so infuriatingly thinking that eVeRyOnE iS gOoD, even going to lengths to protect DARKSTALKER, the guy who almost killed all the Icewings, disemboweled his father, killed many innocent dragons. Qibli loved, cared and helped Moon. What did she do? Nothing. Winter gave up everything for Moon. What did she do? Nothing, brushed it off as if it were nothing important. She's the one not deserving of a mate. So, I ship Qinter instead of Moonbli or Winterwatcher.

Glorybringer (Glory/Deathbringer): 9/10

Great ship, nothing else I can say. Great development for Deathbringer, from assassin to protective bodyguard who stays by the queen's side although another Nightwing (Darkstalker) offered him power and 'glory'. (lol) There are many moments between these two dragons and there're mostly sarcastic and funny, being an enjoyable read and one of my favourite ships. The only reason why I rated it 9/10 instead of 10/10 is because I don't really like Glory, but still, this ship brings out these character's personalities much more, so, great ship, great set-up.

Sunlow (Sundew/Willow): 10/10

YESSSS-This ship rules! Firstly, let me make this clear, Willow needs Sundew and Sundew needs Willow. They need each other. Fiery Sundew with Calm Willow. There is nothing wrong about this, their personalities match, there are multiple scenes between them and practically, Sundew might die without Willow. They are supporting each other and unlike Moonbli or Winterwatcher, this ship is carried both by Sundew and Willow, they sacrifice getting caught just to be with each other. Love this ship, sweet and healthy, both Sundew and Willow love each other deeply.

Ripnami (Riptide/Tsunami): 8/10

I have no hate against this. Tsunami is great with Riptide and I LOVE their first statement, 'Hey, sparkling teeth, I totally love three of your claws but not the others, and I wish your nose was a herring so I could eat it, and also your wings sound like sharks snoring.' Also, Tsunami thinks of Riptide A LOT and Riptide's whole face lit up when someone mentioned Tsunami. They both show signs of affection, however, there should be more scenes of Ripnami because, seriously, there were like only about two scenes when these two met apart from them talking occasionally in the Lost Heir. MORE SCENES PLS!

Darksight (Darkstalker/Clearsight): 2/10

This ship is tragic. When these two were still together, the relationship was sweet but Darkstalker kept on going to lengths to manipulate others, kill others, everything Clearsight didn't want him to do. Just read this passage. 'He lunged at her, fury flooding through his veins, and seized her wrist, twisting it painfully. "I don't need saving. I can choose my own future, and I like the one I see, and you're going to learn to like it too."

- Darkstalker, pg 354

Ummmmmmmmm, excuse me? What kind of dragon does that? Manipulate others, especially HIS OWN MATE, into agreeing with him. That's not love, that's torture. Clearsight specifically asked him to not do that, but he did, even DISEMBOWELING HIS OWN FATHER along the way, what can I say? I totally agree with Clearsight's decision of putting him under Jade Mountain. He doesn't deserve her. I'm glad that Clearsight married Sunstreak, she deserves someone better anyways.

Winterjou (Winter/Kinkajou): 7/10

Personally, I like this ship. It's cute, friendly Kinkajou with Icy Winter. However, it's rather similar to a crush, where Kinkajou thinks Winter's handsome but not developed any true relationships like Glorybringer or Moonbli. But, I think these two dragons will be great because their personalities are very compatible. (Sorry Turtle)

Thornder (Thorn/Smolder): 7/10

I don't really know about this one. Smolder and Thorn just gradually become closer once Thorn becomes Queen of the Sandwings but I think this is a better relationship than Thornmover (Thorn/Stonemover) because, seriously, nah way is that crumbly old Nightwing suited for the beautiful, smart leader of the Outclaws. The only thing I don't like about this is, imagine dating this guy who tried to imprison your own daughter, and also, like Ripnami, more scenes pls!

Blicket (Blue/Cricket): 10/10

I love everything about this ship, it's probably my favorite. These two dragons are so sweet and they express their affection several times. I cannot get enough of this ship. One of the reasons I simply LOVE this ship is because I adore Blue, he is on my top 10 favorite dragons, he's gorgeous, sweet, timid, and shy, Cricket, is also great, she's a bookworm, like me, and is kind and caring, even going this far to help a Silkwing, sacrificing her safety and her secret to help him and his family.

Lunatail (Luna/Swordtail): 6/10

I don't hate this ship, I think it's cute, but I also don't like the characters that make up this ship. (Will be explained in 2nd book in this series) Swordtail saved Luna. There, the most obvious show of affection. The main goal in the 3rd arc was created because of his determination to save Luna, he lost her and went to find her, even accidentally surrendering himself to the Othermind. Swordtail's heroic, brave and humorous, all the good things of a dragon. Luna, on the talon, made me downgrade this ship by 4 points. She doesn't have a personality, she's overrated and I dunno how or why she was named protagonist of TLC.

Glornami (Glory/Tsunami): 1/10

I don't know how to feel about this one. There is no canon evidence about this relationship and just because they're practically siblings and have an intimate relationship as a family, doesn't mean they'll grow up and develop romantic feelings towards each other. That's all I can say.
