Work Text:

“Okay class, let’s wrap up. You guys eat your lunch and study music theory at h-“ Professor Jihoon Lee’s reminders were cut off by the knocking of the classroom door.

He sighed before opening it, and there stood Professor Jeon Wonwoo, a renowned mathematics and philosophy teacher in the campus.

Professor Lee gave the other a look that said ‘What do you want?’ and Professor Jeon gave him a smile before saying, “Mr. Lee.. lunch?” while holding up a brown bag of presumably food as he awaits Lee’s reply.

Lee only looked at him and turned back to the class, “Review what we studied about music theory today at home, okay? You are now dismissed.” Jihoon then picks up his things as the bell rang and he went with Professor Jeon to lunch.

A few nosy students gathered up after the two of them left, “Oh my god, they’re so cute! We so have to get them together by the end of the semester!” One enthusiastically says, another interrupts her by feeding her and replies, “We need to be subtle, not that excited thing you got going on.” The rest of the group nodded in agreement to her words and lunch continued on with some schemes planned here and there.

Day One of getting the only two bachelors left of the faculty consisted of getting to know the two professors.

Professor Lee likes music.. music.. more music, cats, food, silence and sleep.

Professor Jeon likes gaming, music, sleep and cats as well. Their interests are so similar that the students freaked out at the fact again.

Although most importantly, they’re both single.

Maybe. They avoided the questions but made it seem like they have zero interest in love right now and only cared about their careers and themselves. Self-love first, Professor Jeon said, and the crowd cheered again.

The thing is, this whole pair did not blossom from a mere lunch ‘date’ a day ago. It often happens that someone else from the faculty asks Mr. Lee out to lunch as he is their most closed-off member and they wanted to not make him feel like an outcast, it was just different when Professor Jeon asked.

Professor Jeon Wonwoo is a new hire, only starting a few weeks ago. He graduated from the country’s top university with latin honors and has since become the university’s most admired professor for not only his looks but his intelligence and way of teaching as well.

Alongside that, Professor Lee is just as famous. Known to be the quiet, introverted professor who seemingly has no close friends in the faculty, by his looks and well— his wits as well. The two of them are loved by the students, always understanding and never did raise their voices as a tactic of teaching quickly gained their affection.

Students noticed the two of them talking often, it seemed like it was always Professor Jeon who struck up the conversations but could see Professor Lee enjoying his company as well, most probably because they were of the same age and could relate to each other pretty well, they also handled the same classes which meant bumping into each other every time.

As time went on and Professor Jeon had already been working there for a few weeks, the two have noticeably gotten closer. Thus started this whole student-matchmaker fiasco.

Day Two consisted of observing their interactions, and so did Day Three and so did Day Four.. and so did Week Two.

The students took small actions to hopefully shift their relationship from close work colleagues into something more.. romantic, but it seemed like Professor Jeon was already doing that for them.

“Professor Lee, can I give you a ride?” He said when he brought his new motorbike to school.

“Mr. Lee, I got this coupon from this cat café, says 50% off if you bring a friend.” Mr. Jeon says, directly attacking both of their likes, not even giving Jihoon the chance to resist.

Non-stop calls and visits to Lee’s classroom, Jeon Wonwoo looked like a pet following his owner around.

“Mr. Jeon is so desperate for Mr. Lee’s attention already.” One student from the same group before comments.

It was lunch time, and talking about their favorite teachers was a habit they have recently developed. They all let out laughs and one replied back, “We weren’t needed to start their love story in the first place after all!”

“Watching them was so fun though. We should ask Professor Lee how many dates they went on already.” The group agrees, looking forward to their class as it is in fact, the music professor they’ve been talking about.

Jihoon enters and the whole room goes silent before they all rose up and greeted him a good afternoon. He gave them a nod then finally started the discussion.

“Any questions? We still have time for clarification.” Mr. Lee asks while putting his things away.

Only one student raised their hand, Professor Lee then called them and asked what part of the lesson did they need answer to.

“Are you and Mr. Jeon dating yet?”

Professor Lee’s eyes widened, clearly taken aback by the inquiry. He sighed and smiled a little before replying, “Unfortunately, my hand is already spoken for.” He then showed his wedding band on the left hand, it was glistening so to say.

The class let out an audible gasp and Jihoon inwardly chuckled at their reactions. As if on cue, a knocking came through the door and everyone in the room knew exactly just who it was.

“Sir Lee, here are the papers for my class. You needed them right?” Professor Jeon went in, with the smile he usually wore around campus— except it visibly gets wider when in Mr. Lee’s presence.

Mr. Lee took the papers from him with thanks, “No problem. Are you still up for dinner later?” Professor Jeon asked as he was turning towards the door.

The students watched the exchange silently, yet one student was brave enough to break it and yelled out,

“Don’t go with him Mr. Jeon! He’s married!”

Both of the professors turned to the student and laughed, “I know, I was at his wedding!” Professor Jeon exclaimed which left more room for questioning. “Whattt? Were you a groomsman?” “You’re relatives!?” “The officiant, perhaps?” Jihoon chuckled at the last comment of his student, “Yeah Mr. Jeon, were you the officiant?” He said teasingly. Wonwoo rolled his eyes at Jihoon, “I was your groom, you know that!” Wonwoo replied with fake anger, showing his left hand. There shone another gold wedding band, extremely identical to what Professor Lee has.

Silence took them for a moment before the students had seemed to understand what they meant and let out squeals, “Oh my God! We tried to set you guys up but you’re already married!?” A female student yells out and ruckus started again.

Professor Lee sighed for the nth time that day before softly tapping his desk, “Settle down. But yes, we got married over this weekend.”

Professor Jeon opened his mouth to tell them how they met and gush about his husband but was interrupted by Professor Lee pushing him towards the door, he then said, sternly, “And you Mr. Jeon. Stop interrupting my classes, will you?” Jihoon glared with no real anger towards Wonwoo.

Professor Jeon, ever so smugly, smiled and kissed Jihoon’s cheek,

“Get it right. It’s Mr. Lee to you.”

Mr. Lee uttered before leaving Jihoon with his noisy students and an extremely red face.
