flecks of debris float down as you swept on biograft’s shoulder. of the 5 biografts that got sent out to war for the testing of their new program, the robot in front of you was the only one that returned. this biograft in particular was the one you personally made, the ache in your heart tightening at the sight of them. at the same time, you feel your shoulders relax knowing that they managed to get out of the hellhole.
“bio,” you let out the sigh you have unknowingly been holding. “good to see you back, buddy!”
“HELLO, CREATOR.” their robotic voice cracked. they must’ve took a serious blow in the neck. you back away to assess the damage, your eyes inspecting every inch.
biograft, was no doubt, covered in dust and grime. metal was bent everywhere, all accompanied with scratches. the neon orange lights flickered and died. their two energy swords needed great repair. you look at their face and watched as the rim of their eyes glow, their head giving miniscule twitches.
“how are you feeling?” you asked with a small smile. it was hard tugging it up, but you wanted to lighten the mood.
“WE HAVE COMPLETED THE MISSION.” the voice crackles once again. “ANOTHER WIN FOR BLACKROCK.”
“i asked about you, dummy” a hand playfully patted the side of their arm. “i think we should get you all fixed up.”
biograft simply stood still, save for the spasms that would shoot through them at random. all of a sudden, an exclamation mark pops up at the top of your head. your hand immediately buries itself in the pocket of your lab coat, pulling up to reveal a tiny keychain. the ring had a chain that held to an image of a tangerine.
you grab their wrist and took their weapon, dropping it down on the grass below. you open their slightly clenched hand and place the item in it.
“WHAT IS… THIS?” biograft looked down. a chuckle left you as they examine the object.
“it’s a keychain!” you took the energy sword you just dropped down. “we can put it here, if you want to?”
after a couple of seconds of fiddling around, biograft held the sword once again. the only difference? it now had a small tangerine hanging down from the handle. it dangled with every movement, and the two of you can’t help but follow its sway. you look up at biograft whose attention was solely on the ornament.
“now you have a piece of me wherever you go!” your voice had an excitement to it. as you watch them play with the keychain, you could feel your heart clench once more.
“great job out there, bio.” you pat them on the back, and they tilt their head up to focus on you. “always come back to me after every battle, got it?”
“AFFIRMATIVE.”
