“what is this?”
katana crouched down to the dusty box below, his fingers grazing the small opening of it. you turn your head to take a glance and your eyes light up upon seeing what he found. with just 3 steps, you reached his side. the storage was a tiny room, after all. soon, a tree is revealed to the two of you, laying snuggly inside the cardboard.
“this is the christmas tree,” you touch at the spikes and pinch at it. “we’ll set this up in the living room and decorate it!”
“what do you use to decorate it?”
“well…”
you turn to your left and see more familiar carton. you know that some had the beautiful ornaments in it that would bring the tree to festive life. when katana follows you to open one, instead you were met with something fuzzy and white.
“hey…” with two hands, you raised the item. “i didn’t know we had this!”
you faced katana and couldn’t help but giggle. the white beard you held up and positioned over his face suited him well. the view of him like this reminded you of santa… especially with his red horns. an idea comes to mind and you quickly went to work.
you gave him the beard and he took it with no questions. he has been confused the whole time, but allowed you to do your thing. the next item you took from the box was the iconic red santa hat. a commotion would then erupt in the small room.
“hey, what’s going o—” shuriken stops in his tracks. his jaw drops before attempting to stifle a laugh and failing.
“i didn’t know thieves’ den had its own santa claus!”
there was no response.
the older demon could only stand still while you dressed him up in a red jacket with white fur on the edges of it. he now wore the beard from earlier over his mask. after patting on the clothing to remove stray hairs, you finally placed the hat on the top of his head.
“there!” you took a step back to assess your work, a smile tugging on the corners of your lips. katana now looked like a proper santa claus, with his red hat, coat, and soft beard. you hear shuriken in the back shouting for slingshot to “come over here and see this!” he ran away and you could only huff in an amused manner as you wait for the noisy comments. a low grumble could be heard, followed by a sigh. you finally meet with katana’s eyes, shrouded by the shadow his mask made.
“you look nice, tana.” although your voice sounded calm, you couldn’t help but let the small hint of joy slip through the words. you were a bit surprised, however, that not only did he agree to prepare the house for christmas with you, but also go along with whatever this is.
another sigh could be heard, but it wasn’t one of annoyance. it sounded content actually, and it only made you raise your brows in slight curiosity. katana turned back to the tree in the box, his head turning once more to the boxes beside it. you placed your hand on his back and now he was looking at you.
“should we start decorating the living room?” you took the hat off him and fiddled with the faux fur on the brim. he nods and goes to the boxes with you happily following him behind his back.
