Silence.
Nothing but the
sound of my faint heartbeat,
my shuttering breath.
In awe of the face before me,
its twinkling brethren,
and the nothing in-between.
Free-floating,
the tether no longer clasped,
I reach.
That light shines upon me,
“I’m here,” I breathe,
“I’m home.”
A voice speaks beside me
through the static.
“Yes, you are,”
A quiet solemnity
in the enclosed space
of my helmet.
“Is it everything you are hoping for?”
Pressure,
the fading noise
crushing my chest.
“Yeah, it is.”
A single note fills the silence.
The helmet is lifted.
I reach the light.
My wish, to be
among the stars
has been fulfilled.
