Work Text:
Kaidou rarely gets shitty days, that’s why he definitely wasn’t prepared for the sick and twisted plan that the world had for him today.
The day originally started well, with Kaidou getting high marks in the midterms of his morning classes. After his said morning classes, he heads to the restaurant (a semi-authentic Italian place) where he works at with a good attitude and a positive aura reflecting his earlier event; His spirits come crashing down not even an hour into his shift when he and his co-worker, Aren, waited on a table that was a part of 16.
“Waiter, we would like our bill please.” One of them flags them down, with Kaidou being the one to take it since Aren was busy with putting all their empty plates away. The bluenette approached them with a smile as he hands the check presenter to the man who flags them down.
The man stays quiet, making sure everything is orderly before nodding and returning the check presenter to Kaidou.
“Alright, since you’ve confirmed that everything in the bill is correct, how will you be paying? Cash, check or card?” The waiter asks, before furrowing his eyebrows when multiple people take out their wallets and present some sort of cash or a few bills. He chalks it up to the people wanting to fight over who has to pay for it.
“Cards” The man who requested the bill earlier says. Kaidou resists the urge to sigh, realizing that this table was going to be one of those tables.
“I apologize, but I have to clarify, who is paying?” Kaidou asks, not shocked when he sees the man furrow his eyebrows in annoyance.
“Kid, I said ‘ cards ’, plural. We’re all chipping in and paying separately. Divide the bill to 16- According to your website, you allow split payments, correct?” The man says in a snappy tone, the rest of the people at the table just quietly watching with an unamused look on their faces.
“Sir, the website also states that for parties above 8, we only accept one payment via one of the three payment methods mentioned before.” Kaidou says, having memorized that rule by heart at this point with the amount of people who just don’t read past the first sentence of a paragraph.
“That’s not what I read on your website! Don’t try being smart with me, young man. Where’s the other waiter? The one with purple hair and glasses. He seems much more competent than you.” The man spits out, an annoyed look on his face and the happiness he felt earlier floating away from him like a bubble.
Kaidou remains professional, a smile still present on his face as he nods. “Of course, sir, let me go get him for you.” he turns around to make his way to the staff room, making eye contact with Aren who immediately understands what’s happening before the bluenette was even close enough to have a conversation.
“They’re driving me insane! They said something about how much more competent you are compared to me?” Kaidou hisses, a scowl forming on his face now that he’s hidden from the judging gazes of the overly-pretentious people in the restaurant. Aren sympathizes with the bluenette, offering a smile as he’s handing the last of the dirty dishes to the kitchen helper and thanking him before properly looking at Kaidou.
“I swear… It’s probably your baby face, that’s why the older ones always assume you’re somehow lower than others in intelligence because God forbid that young people know anything, right?” Aren says with disdain in his voice, peeking out of the staff room to look at the table who seem to be deep into a conversation filled with eye rolls then laughter. They were definitely making fun of Kaidou.
“For fucks sake… I just want to work in peace. I treat them with civility and this is what I get in return- unbelievable” Kaidou mutters before Aren pats his friend’s back, stretching slightly before exhaling loudly.
“Okay, let’s talk to them” The purple head says, with Kaidou following behind him with his customer service smile back on his face.
They arrive at the table, having almost the exact same conversation that Kaidou had with the man that the bluenette talked to; You wanna know the only difference? The man had a smile on his face and was listening intently at what Aren was saying and suddenly became very understanding. Their conversation finishes with the table passing bills to each other so they can pay in cash, the man who berated Kaidou earlier hands the payment to Aren with a kind smile before turning to the bluenette as his annoying fucking face looks at him with a glare.
“You should’ve told us that information earlier, kid, be more like this kind gentleman.” He says, before waving off the two and standing up to leave along with the rest of his party.
Kaidou wants to bash his head on the nearest wall the moment that they returned to the staff room; Aren stops the other, placing both hands on the other’s shoulder and shaking him lightly. “Hey, it’s just a minor incident. The day will get better.” He says, comforting Kaidou enough that the bluenette agreed.
The day, in fact, did not get better. Out of the total of 7 tables that he waited on today, only 2 of them actually treated him with basic human decency; The other five tables acted like he was this dumb teenager that were disrespecting them whenever Kaidou gently corrects them and provides them with proper information.
He was very, extremely worn out when his shift finally ended.
The bluenette exits the restaurant after he says his goodbye to his co-workers, his messenger bag slung on his shoulder. He can’t wait to sit on the bus and finally rest, knowing what was waiting for him when he got home.
Well… he actually, literally can’t wait for the bus because the bus stop schedule had a large sign hanging onto it that read. ‘ Unavailable for the next three days. ’ That was what completely broke Kaidou for the day, tears suddenly building up in his eyes and he just wanted to break down crying.
Kaidou quickly makes his way to a random empty alleyway, the tears streaming down his face as he quietly sobs while fumbling to pull out his phone and speed dialing the person he needed the most right now.
“ Shun, are you gonna be- Love? Are you crying? What’s wrong? ” Saiki asks, suddenly concerned because when he picked up the call, the last thing he was expecting was his boyfriend sobbing.
“Kusuo… baby, can you pick me up? T-the same alleyway you teleport to when you v-visit me” Kaidou murmurs, his voice unstable and his lips quivering as he tries his best to control his sobs.
“ Of course- ” The call cuts off, a sudden gust of wind brushing against Kaidou and he already knows who it is without even needing to look up. He immediately wraps his arms around his boyfriend, still crying but at least now there’s somebody to hold him now that he’s absolutely breaking down.
‘ It’s alright, I’m here now ’ Saiki says, pulling Kaidou closer to him and fixing his position so that he’s holding the bluenette more securely. They stay like that for the next three minutes, waiting for Saiki’s teleportation to recharge.
Saiki can read Kaidou’s thoughts, the scenarios from his shift repeating in his head again and again and again and again like a broken record. The psychic brushes his hand through his boyfriend's hair, silently using his powers to convince the other’s thoughts to calm down.
It’s finally silent, Kaidou’s mind going through static and general calmness just in time for Saiki to teleport them back home and show him the dinner that he prepared for the both of them.
He will definitely get another shitty day eventually, but Kaidou doesn’t have to worry because he knows that no matter what, Saiki will always be there for him.
