“Honestly,” says Martyn, three hours and a lot of drinks deep in the MCC afterparty, “I’m not - I’m not even mad we didn’t win.”
“You’re not?”
“No, ‘cause - I’m happy for the Bats and all, but - it’s more… I dunno. If we didn’t lose, this would be different?”
Ren hides a smile behind a pint glass. “I see.”
“And I’m glad things went the way they did. With you and RK.”
His ears twitch as the King is called to attention. “We are too,” he replies, and resigns himself to ice in his drink for the rest of the night.
