Sticktober Prompt 3 - Dirt

Summary:

Red gets annoyed with dirt, basically.

Notes:

Thanks to my sister, Meara (M_Inferno) for writing basically 96% of this because when I read the prompt "Dirt" I was stumped.

I just did the cleanup, grammatical editing, word changes so the meaning was understood better and small additions for clarity. Stuff like that.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Red stepped into his little house. Taking a deep breath, he relished the cozy atmosphere of the smooth stone and brick that lined the cottage walls.

Looking around, he suddenly felt uneasy. Something seemed…off, to say the least, as if some stick had been here and taken or moved stuff.

Red did a quick inventory check and made sure all of his stuff had gone untouched.

Then he noticed the out-of-place object sitting smack dab in the middle of the room.

A block of dirt.

Although puzzled as to how a dirt block got in his house, Red just ended up mining the block and he deposited it into his construction material chest.

He gave it no more thought.

Until…

3 days later:

"Heh. Slowpokes," Blue laughed at the other members of the Color Gang as they caught their breaths: They had been racing to Green's house for the occasion of watching a movie. Purple was with them.

"It…it's not…fair!" panted Green as she came to a stop. "You…have…your potions!"

Blue shrugged, his teasing smirk growing bigger at Green's upset countenace.

Green was about a second away from giving her brother a good smack for his cheating, but was stopped when she felt Purple's hand on her shoulder from behind.

Green breathed out and calmed herself, her face tinting pink slightly. She shouldn't ruin the mood with a fight.

"Anyway, all's fair in love and TV," continued Blue. He opened Green's door. "Shall we?"

Second was about to nod excitedly, but his phone buzzed suddenly, diverting his attention to the new text he'd received.

"Oh, hold on, I got a text," Second proclaimed and pulled out the device to check it.

"Who is it?" Yellow inquired.

"Red," Second looked up at the others. "He says he'll be a little late but he's on his way now."

Purple waved his free hand (his other hand still on Green's shoulder) in a follow-me gesture.

"Let's set up the TV and snacks while we wait then."

Everyone else nodded eagerly and they all trooped inside.

"I have the snacks!" declared Second proudly as he walked into the living room with a platter of treats. Blue followed close behind him holding the drinks and a bowl of netherwart.

Well, we all knew who would be eating that.

Yellow was finishing setting up the TV for their movie afternoon, while Purple and Green sat together on the two-seater couch, also known as a loveseat.

Suddenly, Red burst through the front door, panting as he spoke.

"Have any of you been…putting dirt…in my house?!?"

Five heads shook no.

Red let out a dismayed, irritated groan.

"Dirt has been appearing in and around my house! I found a dirt block with my flowerpots! I found a dirt block next to my bed. I found a random smooth stone replaced with a dirt block," Red ranted. "Guess why I was late? Because I couldn't open my door due to there being a dirt block in the way!"

Second walked up to the frustrated stick and tried to soothe him.

"We'll find out who's causing your dirt problem, Red. But I think you should take some time to calm down. Shall we watch the movie first?"

Before Red could answer, there was a sudden and loud vwoop!

An enderman appeared in the room.

The sticks all scrambled for their diamond swords while trying to avoid looking the creature in the eye.

Seemingly oblivious to the mad dash in the room, the enderman simply and calmly set a dirt block on the floor and teleported away without a second thought.

The room went quiet.

Red stared at the block.

After a moment he broke the silence with a short, faintly exasperated "Oh."

"Hey, Red?" Yellow asked, an air of cautiousness in his tone. "Is now a good time to mention the movie is about endermen?"
