Purple shivered under his blanket. He was curled up on the couch, listening to the snow and hail outside.
King wasn't home yet (he'd gone out to get firewood) and Purple had started worrying about him.
What if he'd gotten stranded in the snowstorm?
Or worse…
Getting up for about the millionth time, Purple once again took a peek out the window in an attempt to see his father heading home.
The blizzard seemed to have gotten worse, as Purple was having difficulty seeing even three feet past the glass.
He sneezed as he was walking back to the couch. Wonderful. He was getting a cold.
Wrapping himself tighter with the blanket, Purple wondered what he should do.
Maybe he should prepare a hot beverage for King?
Purple mentally reassured himself King had to be okay. His dad was a smart stick.
Ignoring the growing pit of worry that festered inside his chest, Purple left the couch once again and walked into the kitchen, the blanket draped over his back.
With hands that shook from the cold temperature, Purple began putting together some coffee. They had run out of cocoa powder for King's homemade cocoa mix a few days ago, and had yet to acquire more.
Within minutes, Purple had two steaming espresso lattes. Wrapping his hands around his mug, Purple sighed in relief as he slowly warmed up.
He left King's mug on the counter after covering the top with a small saucer to help trap the heat inside.
The door opened. Purple whirled around in joyous surprise to see King coming inside and quickly shutting the door to keep out the cold.
He carried a large armload of wood logs. King also had snow on his hat and shoulders, but seemed totally okay and even a little perked up from his walk.
Purple let out an involuntary sneeze, before he rushed up to his dad and gave him a hug.
"You're okay! I was getting worried," Purple stated honestly, his relief plain to see.
"I'm okay, but how are you? Have you gotten sick?" King spoke as his gentle gaze grew concerned while he set the wood on the table.
Purple shrugged and then hunched in his shoulders sheepishly.
"I just sneezed a little bit."
"Hm," King hummed non-committedly, his never wavering gaze gaining slight suspicious undertones.
Purple started sweating nervously under the strong look.
Please don't make me take that icky medicine, He thought.
Then King straightened back up and picked up the wood stacks, his attention directed to the task of setting up the fireplace.
"Very well, but if you keep sneezing, I will make you take medication for it."
Purple winced behind King's back as his father began preparing the fire.
"Soooo," Purple laughed nervously, changing the subject. "How was your walk?"
"Oh, it was fine. I can handle a little snow," King accepted the subject alteration after a slight pause. "Besides, it's a wonderful alternative to the heat of the Nether."
A little snow?! Purple looked at King with his mouth agape, unbeknownst to King who still had his back to Purple.
That was a literal snowstorm out there!
Purple was colored a bit impressed at the indifferent response to such weather. His dad was awesome.
The fireplace was soon aflame, glowing brightly and instantly warming the room.
"There!" King sighed satisfied. He brushed his hands together to be rid of some dusty ash left over from previous fires.
The two stood in the room, silently enjoying the sounds of the crackling fire and the scent of the wood cooking.
"Oh!" Purple smacked his forehead suddenly. "I made coffee for you while you were out."
King smiled and ruffled Purples hair on his way into the kitchen, his eyes quickly settling upon his cup, which was still hot.
He took several sips before turning back to Purple, nodding his head in thanks.
"What else did you do while I was gone?"
Purple was about to make mention of the dreary activity of sitting on the couch that he'd endured, before another sneeze betrayed him.
A beat passed.
Wiping underneath his nose, face flushing in embarrassment, Purple hesitantly looked up to meet King's eyes.
King didn't even bother hiding a smug grin as he pointed his hand towards the medicine cabinet.
Purple begrudgingly began stalking over to the accursed medicine storage area, his posture slouched.
"Last time I ever make you coffee…" muttered Purple. He knew that was a lie, but he had to grumble something. That was just the way it was when you wanted to make a point.
"Is that so?"
Oh.
King made out his words.
"Well then…" King continued, beginning with an ominous tone that was quickly undermined by the growing urge to laugh as he spoke.
"Last time I ever let you off the hook for being sick. You cough? To the cabinet. You sneeze? To the cabinet. If you so much as breathe funny, you're going straight to the cabinet."
"I-I wh- wait-" Purple stammered.
King lost it, unable to take another sip from the mug as he shook with laughter.
Finally, he did simmer down much to Purple's unamusement.
"Ah, I'm kidding. Just get some acetaminophen and let's sit by the fire."
Quickly swallowing the tablet, Purple joined his dad on the couch.
"The end," King said.
Then he started laughing again at Purple's confused expression.
