It started two years ago when War was asked to star in a mini youtube film. At that time he was young and very much willing to dive into the other aspects of the platform so without thinking too much about it he said yes.
He remembered sitting through the auditions for his co-star, not really paying attention, after all it wasn't his decision to make. Not until a tall man entered the room.
"Hi! My name is Yin Anan Wong."
The first thing War noticed about him was that he was imposing, he honestly looked a bit intimidating. But there was something about this man that somehow captured his attention. War stood straighter in his seat, eyes focusing, and for the first time since he entered that room, he was captured.
Yin was very charming and in War's completely unbiased opinion, he fit the role pretty well. So it was no surprise that only a week later, Yin was casted and they began filming.
Their film was a success, people praising the chemistry they had as a couple. Something that they only waved off with a smile. Whenever someone asked them if they were dating for real, they would laugh and say that they were very close, but not that close.
War didn't know when it started to change.
From that moment on, Yin has become a constant figure in his channel. Sometimes they stayed at his place and filmed his usual comedic content, other times he would haul his equipment to wherever he felt like it, dragging Yin along with him.
If he was being completely honest, they were truly just friends at the time. But his viewers always thought otherwise. Comments would come in asking them about their relationship, the 'true score' as they say. War only laughed and said that they were friends, nothing more.
But there was just something about them that made people question if they were really just friends, as they claimed to be. The lingering touches and long gazes seemed to say otherwise.
And then came the silence.
There were several sightings of the two of them out and about the city. Several news articles have even popped up speculating about the true status of their relationship. It was safe to say that they were the focus of the youtube gossip community for several years. But despite all these, all the chaos and the questions, the parties remained silent. No denial and no acceptance, just small smiles.
Now that he thought about it, perhaps Yin surprising him on his birthday celebration with his subscribers wasn't so subtle of them. And perhaps him retaliating and surprising the model on one of his shoots on his birthday was also not so subtle. But at the time it was like a game for them, a playful game of tug of war.
For five years, fans were plagued with news of them visiting each other's families. Going on vacations together, spending their birthdays and holidays together. All these kept the fans on the edge of their seats, minds running wild on speculations.
There was a time when War went live while filming, chatting with his fans and fooling around, just like what he usually did. What was unusual however was when a familiar voice laughed outside of the frame and soon enough the Yin's face could be seen peeking from behind the youtuber.
"As you can see I have a visitor today!" War said with a big smile. "Are we filming something? Who knows?"
Yin laughed. "He acts like this and you all still love him."
"You love me too."
There was pin drop silence as the comments on the live slowly exploded with messages. The couple was still in shock before War regained his composure and quickly waved to the fans.
"We have to go now, see you on my next video!"
Yin seemed to recover not long after and waved. "Bye guys!"
And it didn't get better after that, it was five years of them never saying anything about their relationship. Years of cryptic social media posts that make people go wild with theories. Years of Yin being one of the most recurring guests on the channel.
Until, the yearly Valentine's day video dropped.
WarWhere had a yearly tradition on Valentine's day. Every year, War would find a romantic trope and spin it with his own flair, making fun of romantic clichés was something he was definitely known for. He's constantly said in these videos that he would probably be the worst boyfriend on the planet, insisting that he had no romantic bone in his body. What the eagle-eyed viewers have noticed however was that, despite having acted alongside different people in the past, War now only acted with Yin on his Valentine's videos. Every year for five years, Yin was War's unwitting fake boyfriend on Valentine's day.
But this year it was different.
"Revealing My [not so] Secret Boyfriend."
War laughed every time he thought of the title. He knew his subscribers, he knew the first thing they would think of was that he was pulling their leg, but then they would be very very wrong.
"Hi guys!" War spoke through the camera. "You've read the title, I hope you're happy now."
He laughed and then pouted. "Why do you all want to see me dating so bad? You're making me think you want to get rid of me. Are my jokes that bad?"
"But anyway, the reason why I made this video was to reveal my boyfriend." He shrugged as if that topic wasn't something that has been plaguing his subscribers for years.
"I know, I know." He said, putting his hands up. "You'll say, but War you always do this, telling us you'll reveal your boyfriend but you never reveal anything."
War stared at the camera. "To be fair, I didn't think I had to reveal anything. I mean it was pretty obvious from the get go. But since I'm doing a reveal anyway, against my better judgement by the way, let's do it my way."
The lights dim and War pulls out his guitar. He coughs exaggeratedly and starts strumming.
You walked to Soi Ratchada. It really shook me up.
He thinks back to when they first met, five years ago. He didn't know at the time but Yin was someone who could capture his attention in a heartbeat. Yin didn't have to do anything, there was just something about him that made War want to pay attention.
You changed me into a new person. You make my life so bright everyday.
And he did. Yin was one of his biggest supporters and his constant strength. He didn't know how he would survive hours of filming and hours of sleepless nights without the smile and warm embrace that waited for him after a long day.
Love, do you know that you are the only one that I love? My heart is all yours.
It was no question, War didn't know why because there were so many reasons to love Yin. It was hard to pick just one.
I said "Aww" to you, instead of saying I love you with all of my heart.
War ended the song, a small smile playing on his lips before he turned back to the camera and grinned brightly.
"So how was it? He will probably be calling me after watching the video because I didn't let him listen to the song yet." War laughs. "Despite his whining."
"With that, let's end this video with, so who is War Wanarat's boyfriend? Drumroll please."
He looked seriously at the camera, eyes still dancing with mirth.
"This video is for you, Mister Yin Anan Wong." And he starts throwing finger-hearts at the camera. "Let's be honest, is anybody really surprised? But please act surprised to keep up the act."
"So that's that, I'm dating Yin, for real now. Everyone can rest easy and calm down with the 'is Yinwar real?' tweets" He looks at the camera pointedly. "Yes I see all your tweets please don't be surprised. Honestly, how could I not?"
His phone rings and he breaks out to another big smile.
"I have to end this here, someone is asking for attention and this bear isn't scary but we shouldn't be too careful. Bye!"
And the video ends.
But another bomb drops that night.
