Work Text:
Today was one of Tim’s favorite days. It was his daddy/daughter day with his three-year-old daughter Ellie. He always did something special with her.
They were in the car driving to their first stop.
“Dada?”
“Yes baby?”
“Can we pick mama flowers?”
“Of course Ellie.”
They stop at the playground first. They do swings and the slides. They drive to their favorite farmers market next. Tim grabs some stuff they need at home.
Ellie sees flowers next. “Dada look! Sunflowers!”
“Mommy will love those won’t she?” Tim’s asks.
Ellie nods and picks them up. “So pretty dada.”
He picks one pink flower and pays. “This one is for you. Daddy picked you a flower. I’ll always remind you of how much I love you.” Ellie giggles.
Ellie loves “picking” things out for her mama while she’s out. “Where do we want to go next?”
“Build a bear!” Ellie squeals.
This is one of their favorite places, but they don’t go very often. “Okay Els. It’s been a while. What kind of bear?”
“Kitty cat and something for mama!”
They head to their favorite store and walk inside. Ellie picks out a purple kitty for her and a bunny for her mama. The workers help them fill them with stuffing and Ellie kisses the heart before putting them inside. Once they’re done it’s time for clothes.
“Dada! Wook!” Tim sees a pastel, sparkles dress for her.
“So pretty Ellie. What about mama?”
“Jasmine! She finds the outfit from Aladdin.”
“Mama will love that.” He kisses her head. “Those are very pretty Ellie.”
She walks out happily. They head to grab McDonald’s for lunch, Ellie’s favorite of course. She gets chicken nuggets. They have fun eating and head back to the car.
“Okay Ellie. We have one more stop before we head home.”
“Can we get ice cream for mama?” His heart just melts. This little girl is truly the sweetest.
“Of course, baby.”
They stop at the store so that Tim can grab burgers for dinner. He loves to grill out. He also grabs corn on the cob and French fries. Then he grabs Lucy favorite soda, Diet Coke and root beer for himself.
“Okay Els. What kind of ice cream?”
“Hmmm. Chocolate AND mint chocolate chip?” She asks grinning.
“Okay. We can get both. Let’s grab some chocolate sprinkles and waffle bowls. We can do sundaes!”
“Yay dada.” She claps. Tim finishes grabbing what they need and pays. He loads the car up and gets Ellie buckled. They head home. Ellie falls asleep clutching her bunny.
He quietly walks in the house and puts Ellie in her room. He does not want to disturb his wife who he knows is taking a nap. She is already exhausted and had to go in to finish up paperwork today. He gets things ready for dinner so he can cook later.
Tim decides to start a load of laundry and clean up a bit. He places the flowers on the counter along with the bear and chocolates he picked up at the store.
As he is switching the laundry over, he feels two arms around his stomach.
“Hi beautiful.” He says to Lucy.
“Hi babe. How was your day?” She says quietly. He can hear the exhaustion in her voice.
“It was good. We missed you.” He turns around and hugs her as best he can. She’s six months pregnant with their baby boy and he’s making his presence known. Tim rubs her belly as Lucy winces. “You, okay?”
“My feet are sore and my back hurts. I’ll be fine.”
“When Ellie’s in bed, I’m taking care of you baby.” He kisses her forehead just as they feel a thud run into them.
“Mama!”
“Hi baby.” Lucy manages to pick Ellie up. “Did you have fun today?”
“Yes! Come see what I picked!” She exclaims.
They follow Ellie to the kitchen. Lucy sees the flowers, bunny, and chocolate.
“What’s all this?” She looks at Tim with those big brown eyes.
“Ellie wanted to do something special.” He says.
“Baby thank you. You did a great job picking this stuff out. I love you!”
“Love you mama!” She kisses Lucy and runs off to play.
“Thanks babe.” She leans back into him. “I love the bunny too.”
“We knew it was your favorite. We love picking things out for you, always.”
“You spoil me Tim. These little moments, they’re the best.”
“You deserve it. Now I’m going to start the grill. Burgers, corn, and fries for dinner. Yes I grabbed your drinks. Oh and Ellie got ice cream for later.”
“That sounds delicious. Maybe we can watch a movie.”
“Sounds perfect baby.” Tim grabs what he needs and goes outside. Lucy follows with a few other things. Once dinners done they eat and Ellie talks about her day.
“Mama?”
“Yes baby.”
“Can I always pick things out for you? It’s fun!”
“Of course, you can Ellie. Mama loves when you pick things out.”
Ellie finishes eating and goes to run around with Kojo.
Every daddy/daughter day they have, Ellie always picks at least one thing for her mom. Lucy cherishes every single moment.
