Day 23 of Flufftober “Trinket” by

Work Text:

Tim sat in the waiting room of the hospital. In his hands was Lucy’s ring. The ring she left for him to find. She saved herself. He puts his head in his hands still grasping Lucy’s ring. This small ring that brought her back to him. She’s his rookie, but she has worked her way into his heart.

“Hey Tim.” Grace shakes him out of his thoughts. “You can see her now.”

Tim nods and walks to Lucy’s room. He takes a deep breathe before walking in and sitting down. She’s been bandaged up, but he can see the bruises and cuts.

“You’re okay Lucy. You’re safe.” He whispers as he sits next to her. He stays next to her all night and is there when she stirs in the morning.

“Have you been here all night?” Lucy asks.

“No.” Tim scoffs. She rolls her eyes.

“I’m starving. You know what I could go for-”

“Veggie burger, pickles, extra fries.” Tim pulls a bag out.

“You know me so well.”

“Too well.”

When she comes back to work, she rides with Nyla for a week. She’s in the gym after her last shift with Nyla. Tim’s been carrying her ring with him every day.

He catches her in the gym and they speak.

“Lucy. You can choose to see that tattoo as your greatest failure but I see it as proof that you’re a survivor. It wasn’t your day of death Officer Chen, it was the first day of the rest of your life and no one can take that away from you.” He sees a small smile from and he turns away.

“Hey Chen.” She turns and catches her ring. Wait. Tim found this. They told me it was Nolan.

—————-

Lucy gives Tim her ring when she goes undercover for the first time. She wants him to keep it safe until she gets back.

“Please Tim so I can come back for it.” She looks at him with a sad smile.

“Of course Luce. Come back to me in one piece.” They interlock their hands for a minute until it’s time to leave. Once again Tim puts the ring in his pocket. Come back safe Lucy.

A month later they receive a call from Lucy. She needs backup. By the time they get there she’s taken them all down.

“I thought you said she needed help.” Tim joked.

“I guess we were too late.” Angela says back.

Once Lucy has gone back to the station and done what she needs to, she heads to Tim’s. She didn’t expect him to stay. She looks at her phone and has a text from Tim.

I am picking up dinner. You haven’t eaten. I’ll grab a few other things. Head over when you’re finished.

She arrives at Tim and smells that the foods arrived.

“Pizza. I’ve missed this so much!” She says excitedly. “Thank you Tim.”

“You’re welcome Lucy.” They enjoy their pizza and Tim bring ice cream out after.

“You’re the best. I needed this tonight.” As they’re watching a movie, Tim grabs something and holds it in his hands.

“Here. I kept it safe.” He hands her the ring back.

“I knew you would.” He can see she’s too tired to drive. “Sleep. I’ve got you.” She leans into him and nods off.

—————

Lucy gets hurt while on a call. They finally got together just over six months ago. Her moonstone ring has become significant in their life together. When Tim gets to the hospital he runs into Aaron.

“Tim she’s going to be okay.” Aaron says. He lets a breathe out. “They do need to take her for surgery. It’s to repair her wrist. Here’s her personal effects.”

Tim thanks Aaron and sits down, waiting. He find her necklace with her ring on it. She always jokes it’s her good luck charm because of him. He holds in tightly in his hands.

“Mr. Bradford. Lucy is out of surgery. She will be just fine. You can come sit with her.”

Tim nods and follows the doctor. He sits next to Lucy like he did all those years ago. He kisses her hand and she stirs.

“Mmm hi.” She mumbles.

“Hey baby.” He replies, still clutching the ring. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“I will be. The drugs are good.” She jokes. She grabs his hand and feels the jewelry. “You kept it safe me for again.”

“I’m always keep it safe baby.” He smiles at her.

He puts the ring back on her once her cast is off. That ring will always have a special place in his heart. It’s a staple for them and their relationship.

————-

Tim and Lucy got into a big fight today. He doesn’t want her to stop UC for him because he doesn’t want her to resent him.

“Tim I am doing this for us. I made the decision on my own. You’re more important than UC and I am good at other things. I have so many possibilities.”

He is relieved and so damn happy. “I love you Lucy. I’m scared you’ll regret the decision and hate me.”

“Never Tim. You are my future. I don’t want to lose you. I will be a pretty amazing detective working with Angela.”

He smiles. “I know you will baby.”

Tim pulls Lucy in for a hug. They stand there for a while.

“Where’s your ring?” Tim asks.

“I forgot to put it on today. I’ll have to grab it.”

“No I’ll get it.” Tim replies.

He walks into their room grabbing a ring and walks back out.

“You know I couldn’t find it.”

Lucy looks confused. “Hmm let me look. I swear it was there.”

He grabs her before she walks away. “I didn’t finish. I found this one.” He holds up a beautiful moonstone ring, but it’s smaller.

Is that an engagement ring?!

“Lucy that moonstone is important to our relationship. I wanted you to carry a new one with you that will mean something more. Will you marry me?”

“Yes Tim! It’s perfect.”

“Yeah, it is.” He staring at her.

“You’re amazing Tim. I love you.”

“I love you baby.”

She always wore her moonstones close to her heart. Tim was a part of these and she always carried a piece of him with her.
