Silence.
This is what was all she could ever say in her 25 years of living.
She was a disappointment all of her life even to her own parents who had the gall to straight up leave her at the ripe age of 5.
Not once did she ever make a sound.
No matter how hard she had tried.
Nothing ever came out.
Years later down the line now working as a corporate employee she finds herself not enjoying her life.
That is until a strange package arrived to her front door one hot August day.
Inside contained a vr headset and of course she was ecstatic and started to set it up in her living room.
Little did she know...once she had put it on...her whole life would change.
Creating your avatar part was simple for her. She had always enjoyed jesters because she could relate to them. Always smiling, but behind their masks was deep resentment for where they ended up. Choosing her avatar as a small and cute jester fit her perfectly. Now she would never pick something that doesn't relate to her since she can never be more than a joke. Confirming her avatar was the easy part, but the next? Not so fun. It was all terms and agreements to playing this game which she didn't really read since she would only be on it for a few hours. Skipping it all and confirming to all the terms was probably the worst mistake she would have made yet. She didn't even get to put in her name and suddenly..
‘W-wait huh? Where am i?'
Cheerful music was playing and objects was floating all around her and she saw an exit door. She went to it only for it to disappear following that was a flower pot almost crashing on top of her but now on the ground glitching? She walked away from it in confusion before bumping into something and falling down with it. hearing people make noises while falling down. She gets back up and slowly back away looking at 5 strange avatars? People? Looking at her.
"Caine is this one of your NPC's or is this a new sucker? Cause if this is a new character, were gonna have to redo that whole theme song"-Purple Bunny
A purple bunny in overalls started to complain followed by a talking triangle toy
"Im not doing that again"-triangle toy
The purple bunny thing and triangle toy thing was gesturing to her and continued on with their speech until this "caine" guy spoke up
"My my, it appears a new human has entered this realm!"-Caine
'How do i take this headset off'
She starts pulling on her head and eyelids only to struggle with taking it off. She's panicking with removing the invisible headset
'WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS PLACE?!'
"Just keep grabbing at it, that worked for all of us"-??
She followed the purple bunny's advice and struggle with pulling it off only to somehow pull her whole eye out comically? She look at her hand and then at the people around her.
'Whats going on? I put on some weird headset and now I’m...here? Who are these people and why am I here? Why cant I take it off??? WHERE AM I??'
Everyone looked at her anticipating her to speak but when she started to shake and back away this ragdoll person came up to her.
"Lets just try to calm down, everything's going to be ok new stuff. We’ve all been through this, you just need to get your head-"-???
'WHAT THE %&%$ IS GOING ON?! huh?'
They all stared at her while she was having an internal monologue. But some censor box appeared at her hands which caused the Caine guy to hover near her.
“No, no, no, my dear. We cant have any of that foul language around here. The Amazing Digital Circus is a place to be enjoyed by ALL ages. You my friend stumbled into an incredible world of wonders! Where anything can happen! Except for swearing.”-Caine
She tried to test out his censor box thing and got a little creative with all the swears She had known and thought of but she haven't spoken it at all and yet it still pops up on her hands??
'My gosh'
She looks at Caine and trys to gesture with sign language on how she can leave. They look at her like she's crazy, except for Caine. It seems to her like he knows sign language which leaves her a bit relieved that someone here knows it.
“Uh-”-Caine
Just then the red haired doll interrupted Cain and they both looked at each other with confusion.
“Well don't freak out about it or anything but what I'm assuming you just did with your hands was ask how your able to leave but uh we don't exactly-”-??
And soon after the purple bunny interrupted her.
“You can't”-??
She looks at them in fear and confusion questioning what the purple bunny and red doll had said may be true or not until the triangle person spoke up.
“Shut up Jax. But yeah he's right. Welcome to your new home. Oh and your new body.”-??
‘New home? What do they mean?’
They continue looking at her expecting her to speak but all she gives them is nothing but body language which hopefully is enough for them to understand what she's trying to tell them. Backing away slowly led to the red doll to speak up.
“Guys dont be mean”-??
“We've been stuck here for years. Old Kinger over there supposedly been here the longest”-Jax
She looked over to where he was pointing and it was a pillow fort?
“Did someone say something about an insect collection?”-Kinger
“Thats why hes crazy”-Jax
She starts hyperventilating slowly grabbing her head. Everything is slowly getting dark for her but an idea popped into her head.
‘Oh ok now I get it this is a dream! And I should just play along until I wake up, right?’
They all look at her in confusion considering once again she haven't said a word to them at all, using hand gestures instead. But seemingly enough they saw her almost break down causing a few worried glances. Caine on the other hand just pulled her hand and gave her a tour of this place but in it she saw the same red door from when she suddenly arrived. She puked on her way back of course.
“Woah clean up on aisle YOU”-Caine
“I'm on it, boss”-Bubble thing
The bubble thing started licking up her puke which was gross but wait…why is her puke black??? She's still dizzy but she can see its not its normal color. Caine on the other hand looked at the bubble thing in disbelief.
“Why are you like this”-Caine
‘W-wait I swear I saw an exit door out there maybe that's a way to leave? I remember seeing one just outside of the tent.’
Of course no one heard her but the red hair doll looked concerned. Since she was signing no one understood her but she was hoping that Caine can translate once again. Since it seems like he can read sign language. He stared at her and I think something registered in his teeth brain?
"OHH NO WORRIES MY DEAR POMNI THERE IS NO SUCH THING HERE BUT IM ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING DIGITAL HALLUCINATIONS, FROM YOUR MINDS TRANSITION TO THE DIGITAL PLANE"-Caine
She stared at him for a moment in disbelief from what she was hearing.
'I-I swear I saw'
Caine read what she was gesturing to him and quickly interrupted her.
"DIGITAL HALLUCINATIONS"-Caine
Everyone looked in confusion for what seemed like the umpteenth time and assumed that Caine knew what she was saying.
*** Time skip to the aftermath of the adventure ***
While eating dinner Pomni couldn’t help but stare off into the distance to...god knows where. She got her new name from a machine that Caine had snapped from thin air. Almost died and left behind the red hair doll because she was desperate to leave this digital place. She started thinking..
'This all isn’t REAL why did I put that headset on?! WHAT THE @#$# IS EVEN GOING TO HAPPEN IF I DO GET ABSTRACTED?!'
She slowly get up and walk away from the dining table mostly because she was not hungry. As she reached her door with her face on it she slowly enters it...only to find @#@#-ing clown #@-it around. The bed seemed most normal and thankfully it is. She sat there not knowing what to do other than throw all this @#-it away.
She started to bash her room around throwing things left and right of the stuff she didn’t like, and it seemed like she was loud and a bit too loud. There was a sudden knock on her door, she stopped what she was doing afraid she might’ve done something wrong. But the knocking continued and this time a soft voice answered.
"Hey Pomni? Are you ok in there? Uhm I know that you cant really speak but please open the door? Its me Ragatha the one with the red hair and button eye"-Ragatha
Pomni didnt get to meet everyone properly but she did sort of know her and she seemed friendly. Pomni walked towards the door and opened it slightly to reveal a panicked and out of breath doll. Confused as to why she was here all of the sudden but it seems that Pomni would be rude if she hadn’t let her in. Pomni gestures her to enter the room, thankfully she understood and walked in. As soon as Pomni closed the door she heard her speak.
"So uh Pomni I see your already redecorating here. Thats great! uh I came here to uhm ask you something. If thats ok with you of course!"-Ragatha
Pomni stared at her for a moment before clearing a path from the destruction she caused in her room. Taking her time of course just kicking a few juggling balls aside and hula hoops and in a few moments time she made it to Ragatha who seemed to sit there patiently and awkwardly.
'Of course w-whats wrong Ragatha?'
She stared at Pomni for what seemed like an eternity and yes she was hesitant in her sign language because of her new huge hands. Pomni started to slowly tap Ragatha's shoulder to get her attention since she was spacing out.
"O-oh right so I know your new but I wanted to know why you dont talk and using your hands to uh speak? Not that theres anything wrong with it!"-Ragatha
Pomni looks confused and looks around in her room for something to write with she found a notebook but to no avail there wasn’t a pencil around. Ragatha took note on what Pomni was trying to do and helped her look around for one and found one next to the drums she destroyed. She passed the pencil to Pomni and patiently waited for her response as they both sit on the edge of the bed. Ragatha looked around to the mess before them only now noticing it.
"I see that you don’t like your room yeah its like that sometimes but Caine is surprisingly open for any constructive criticism and is willing to help you remodel your room if thats what you were trying to do Pomni"-Ragatha
Pomni gave her a thumbs up in response and continued writing before handing her the notebook. In there it says:
I dont remember?!? I learned it before I came here. Its fuzzy but I cant remember all I can remember is... Well I just cant speak or im not able to? Thats a better way to put it.
This time Pomni was the one who was waiting for Ragatha to finish reading and to her surprise she had finished reading quicker than expected.
"It's ok if you dont remember Pomni, but what is it that you do with your hands? I still havent gotten a clue as to what it is and why Caine knows what your saying"-Ragatha
Pomni quickly grabs the notebook from Ragatha and scribbles down her response quickly.
'Oh its sign language its like what you guys speak but with these hands (insert jazz hands)'
As soon as Pomni hands back the note to Ragatha she silently sways her legs from the edge of her bed from where they were. Ragatha giggles after reading Pomni's writing. Handing back the notebook and pencil to her.
"Pomni would you be able to teach me sign language?"-Ragatha
Pomni looks in shock and writes down as fast as possible.
'I dont know if im abnke able to tagch teach sign language very well im pretty sure Caine can show you better than I can?'
Ragatha reads what Pomni writes down this time and smiles before patting her head softly.
"Pomni im pretty sure you would be a great teacher since it took Caine a while to even register what you were saying. I would like to learn it from you personally because well...it would be nice to be able to talk to the cute little jester in a way which wouldnt be a hassle. I-I'm sorry was that rud- OOmF"-Ragatha
Pomni hugs Ragatha tight after hearing such sincerity from her, this whole day took a toll on Pomni but she was trying her best to keep it together and not break down right then and there. That is until she started sniffling. Which shocked Ragatha but she hugged Pomni back and reassured her that everything was ok.
