Work Text:
Peter realized how in love with Wade he was the first time they haged out together in silence and it was just as enjoyable as it was when they were talking and loudly making each other laugh. Peter's life as a college student in an academically challenging field filled all of his time, slipping into every part of his life, including Spiderman.
He constantly had homework to do or an exam to give or simply a lecture to go over, since he wasn't fighting villains every minute of his patrols he sometimes brought his schoolwork with him. He tried to not do it very often, saving it as a last-minute resort when his schedule got the tightest, there was so much information that could be learned just from the papers he studied, like his major or his classes and subsequently his university and finally all of his identity putting in danger everyone he ever loved… maybe he was a little dramatic sometimes.
Either way, he tried to keep his studying on the suit to a minimum, when Deadpool started hanging out with him it was decreased even more but when his grades started to go down too he gave up, more scared of disappointing his aunt than of what Deadpool might do with the information he could get out of his papers. He didn't fear the man anymore anyway, he probably never did since Deadpool had made crystal clear from day one how much of a fan of his he was, slowly he had turned from an annoyance he couldn't get rid of to a minor inconvenience and finally to a kind of friend. Not like he would ever say that to him, he feared what it would do to the man's ego.
The first time he studied while patrolling after meeting him, Deadpool had actually caught him by surprise, just another show of how harmless the man was to him if he ever meant any harm his spidersense would notify him first.
“Watcha got there?”- Deadpool asked a little breathlessly after coming up to the roof of the building he was using the stairs.
“There wasn't an elevator?”- Peter asked, he was pretty sure this building did have one, it was one of the reasons he picked this one anyway, after a couple of meetings on rooftops he had started to feel a little bad about how much effort it took Wade to get into the places he was.
“Out of service”- He said and flopped down next to where he was sitting carefully avoiding the other papers that surrounded him- “So what are you doing?”- He asked again.
“It’s exam season”- Peter commented going back to reading.
He could see from the corner of his eyes how Deadpool tried to read what was on the papers that were around him but gave out pretty quickly, probably due to his horrible writing and the complexity of the subjects- “Cool”- He said.
Peter appreciated how much Wade was trying to be silent so he could concentrate, despite this he could still hear the man twitching, turning, and humming distractedly next to him or around him when he got up to walk around the roof they were in.
“You know you can just go if you are bored right?”- Spiderman said without lifting his eyes from the paper after the third time of Deadpool walking in circles around him.
“And miss our weekly hangouts? Never”- He said and sat down once again, it was kind of a lie since nowadays they met together much more than once a week, it weirded Peter out in moments like this where he couldn't figure out what Wade was thinking.
“Suit yourself”- He said plainly and continued he didn't expect Wade to actually stay much longer and while it made him a little sad he comforted himself thinking that they would see each other again tomorrow. Fortunately (or unfortunately for the vitamins) he heard a scream coming from a nearby street and got up to go, if Deadpool stood up a little more eager than normal to go fight some villains neither of them mentioned it, the rest of the night was spent chasing after their normal crimes with not enough time for Peter to study again so he just left it for the night.
It took some more months before it happened again, during exam season it was kind of impossible for Peter to not need the extra study time, this time he warned Wade as soon as he walked onto the roof of the building they were on, this one did have a functioning elevator.
He worried a little that the mercenary would immediately turn around to leave after experiencing boredom the first time. They were both pretty chatty, they were known for being like that, hell Wade was known as ‘the merc with a mouth’ It would make sense why the other would leave when he couldn't talk. Their meeting were always fun, loud, and filled with laughter and snarky comments at the people they fought together, by all means reading was not one of their shared hobbies and Wade got bored easily, he knew that.
Not noticing his inner turmoil Deadpool continued speaking normally- “No worries, I prepared myself this time”- Wade assured and searched around one of the pockets in his belt pulling out a little book, the title making Peter smile.
“Is that a pocket-size version of Twilight?”- He snorted.
Deadpool ignored the mocking laugh and proudly presented his book like a medal- “Damn right it is”.
“How did you know I would be studying again for my exams today?”- Peter wondered, if it was anyone else he would probably feel anxious about how much the other knew about him but with Wade no matter how much information he had on him it didn't make him anything but happy, if anything he actually liked when Wade figured out details about him, it made him feel noticed and important, like the man was truly interested in him.
“Almost every university in this area has the same exam time, I just guessed, I also have been carrying it just for fun”- Wade explained, in fact pulling a page separator marked around the middle of the book- “Besides I checked out your stuff last time and didn't understand a single thing but you sound a bit too young to be a full scientist”.
Peter felt weirdly happy by how much thought the mercenary put in him, to play off the feeling a little he decided to joke around with him- “How do you know I'm not in high school?”- He asked and for the first time in his life he saw a truly afraid Deadpool, he was pretty sure if he didn't have his mask on he would actually see him pale.
“Please for the love of god tell me you're not in high school”- The anxiousness in his voice made him giggle a little.
“I am not, but I was an advanced student”- He mentioned, Wade let out a breath of relief at the revelation.
“Of course you were you nerd”- He joked making Peter pull up his mask just so he could stick out his tongue at him.
It was so nice to have Wade around when he studied, he found himself feeling much more relaxed reading the research than he would normally feel, Wade occasionally telling him some encouraging words when he seemed the most stressed and bringing coffee from the nearby gas station. When he took short breaks to rest his eyes Wade would talk about whatever was currently happening in the book and how hot Carlisle was making Peter laugh and agree.
When he heard some police sirens in the distance he felt a little sad for the moment to end. But he still reached happily for the hand Wade offered for him to help him stand up.
After they were done with the little petty crime that was taking place they walked around the city for a bit, Wade insisting that he needed to stretch his legs for a bit before going back to studying sitting down. The fresh cold air of the night felt refreshing against his tired body.
“Maybe we could hang out after I’m done with my exams”- Peter asked suddenly.
“Uh, we are hanging out right now?”- Wade asked.
“I meant outside of the suits, without being interrupted by criminals?”- He insisted hoping the other wouldn't reject him.
Wade stared at him like a deer in headlights for a second before he asked gulping down and clearing his throat- “Like a- Like a date?”.
“Yeah… yeah, like a date”- Peter confirmed- “Of course if you don’t want to that's totally fine and we can just forget I said anything-”- He tried to say more but was cut off by Wade.
“Yes, it would be my pleasure to go on a date with you”- He said pulling him into a tight hug that would have any other person with bruised ribs, Peter thanked his super strength and healing.
“Great”
