Tavern

Summary:

It comes as quite the surprise to Suguru when Satoru asks him to go out for a drink, considering what a lightweight he is with alcohol. Suguru only understands when the evening culminates in a drunken confession, but he will not let Satoru forget about it in the morning, like he so clearly intended to do. Not when it's actually something Suguru has been waiting to hear for a while.

Work Text:

Satoru doesn’t knock when he lets himself into Suguru’s room and by now he’s so used to that, that he doesn’t even bat an eye.

“I’m bored,” Satoru declares as he flops down over Suguru’s lap, forcing him to lift the book he is currently reading to accommodate him.

“Then find something to do,” Suguru gives back, completely dead-pan, not even tearing his eyes away from the page he is reading.

“You’re so mean to me, you meanie,” Satoru whines out and wriggles around until he can look at Suguru. “Entertain me.”

“Do I look like a monkey to you?” Suguru asks him, raising one eyebrow in question and finally tearing his eyes away from the book. “I’m not going to jump just because you tell me to.”

“But Suuuuguuuuuruuuuuu, I’m going to die if I’m not entertained,” Satoru tells him, dragging his name out obnoxiously and Suguru rolls his eyes at him.

“Finally some peace for me,” he drily tells him and laughs when Satoru pouts and puffs out his cheeks.

“You meanie,” he repeats, but he’s so adorable while saying it that Suguru simply has to poke his cheek.

“Spoiled brat,” Suguru says, punctuating his words with pokes but he can’t deny the fondness in his voice and if the small curve of Satoru’s lips is anything to go by, he notices it too.

It would probably bother Suguru more if Satoru wasn’t just as fond of him.

“Let’s do something, Suguru, come on. You can read your book later.”

They both know that he can’t because later Satoru will demand his attention again and again and just like always, Suguru will give it to him.

He truly cannot say no to Satoru.

“What do you want to do?” he asks with a sigh, finally putting his book away and Satoru crows out in victor.

Suguru is barely able to suppress his way too soft smile at that, because Satoru doesn’t need to know that he loves seeing him happy and pleased. It would give him way too much power and Satoru’s ego is already big enough.

“I want to drink,” Satoru declares way too quickly, so clearly he had a plan all along. “Let’s go to a tavern!”

“What are we, peasants in the Middle Age? It’s a goddamn bar, Satoru, and no one will let us in. We’re too young to drink.”

“Legally,” Satoru replies, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “I know a place where they’ll let us in without carding us.”

Of course he knows a place, Suguru thinks with fond despair and sighs out.

“You can’t even hold your alcohol well,” Suguru says, even though he hasn’t ever seen that.

Satoru told him about it one day and Suguru has no reason to not believe him, so he’s in no rush to carry a drunk out of his mind Satoru back home.

“I’ll just get one drink and then stick to water or something,” Satoru waves him off and Suguru frowns.

“What’s the use of going to a bar then? We can get some beer and drink it here. Would be way less hassle, too.”

“But there’s no fun in that, Suguru, it’s all about the experience of going out, of meeting people!”

Which is exactly why Suguru would really rather stay inside, because he doesn’t like meeting people and especially not drunk people.

But Satoru is looking at him with big, pleading eyes, and of course Suguru is folding under that stare like a house of cards.

“Fine, whatever, get up then,” he says and pushes Satoru off his lap, relishing the surprised yelp he lets out when he hits the floor.

It’s what he deserves for being a menace anyway.

“You’re so mean to me!”

“So you’ve said,” Suguru drawls out. “Multiple times today. Maybe I should just stay in, seeing as I’m so mean.”

“Nooooo, you can’t do that to me, who knows what I’ll get up to if I have to go alone,” Satoru immediately whines out and Suguru honestly shudders to think about it.

Satoru is a force to be reckoned with and he gets up to too much stupid shit to be left entirely unsupervised.

“For the good of humanity then,” Suguru nods and laughs when Satoru seems offended though he wisely keeps his mouth shut, clearly not daring to push too far in case Suguru does change his mind.

“Let’s go!” Satoru yells out instead, pumping his fist up in excitement and before Suguru knows it he’s being dragged out of his dorm room.

It’s going to be a long night, he’s sure of that.

~*~*~

Suguru is ready to leave ten minutes into their visit to the bar, because after just one drink it becomes clear just how badly Satoru can really hold his liquor. Suguru knows that the incredibly sweet and sugary drinks usually hold more alcohol than the beer he favours but seeing Satoru display signs of being intoxicated after downing half his cocktail must be a new record.

“You are such a lightweight,” Suguru says into his own beer, already dreading the way home.

He’ll probably have to carry Satoru is he goes on like this and he’s not looking forward to it. For all his lankiness he’s incredibly dense and therefore heavy.

“Aww, Suguru, don’t be mad just because it takes you a while longer,” Satoru says, not quite yet slurring his words as he slumps over the bar.

The bartender is already giving them the stink eye and Suguru guesses it’s just a matter of time before they are being asked to leave or are carded and then kicked out.

“Why did you even want to go out if you’re going to be plastered after not even fifteen minutes?” Suguru wants to know and Satoru tilts his head to be able to look better at him.

“No reason,” he says after a pregnant pause and Suguru immediately tenses.

There’s a reason then, one that Satoru doesn’t feel comfortable telling him and Suguru doesn’t like how that hurts.

“Sure,” he whispers and Satoru must notice his shift in mood because he reaches out to poke Suguru’s shoulder.

“Don’t be sad, Suguru,” he says. “I’ll tell you when we’re back.”

“You make no sense at all, Satoru, we could have just stayed in! They sell sweet drinks in the store as well.”

“Going out seemed like more fun though,” Satoru mumbles and then suddenly sits up and downs the rest of his drink. “Let’s go home.”

Suguru sadly looks at his half-finished beer but puts it on the bar to help Satoru up. He’s already more unstable than Suguru would like, long foal legs nearly folding under him and Suguru slings an arm around his waist.

“You’re such an idiot,” Suguru mutters into Satoru’s hair when his head comes to rest on Suguru’s shoulder and Satoru hums.

Suguru decides to take it as agreement and then hauls Satoru’s ass out of the bar. The way home is exactly as annoying and strenuous as Suguru had feared it would be and he hopes Satoru knows to appreciate his efforts in the morning.

“Why are you so goddamn heavy,” he pants out when Satoru nearly slips through his fingers on the stairs up to the school and Satoru shrugs.

“It’s the ego,” he slurs out and it startles a laugh out of Suguru.

That might be the truest thing Satoru has ever said and he probably won’t even remember it in the morning.

He somehow gets Satoru to his room, but when Satoru realises where they are, he whines and clings to Suguru.

“No, not here, take me back to yours,” he manages to get out and Suguru lets out a big sigh.

Satoru is such a spoiled brat and the fact that Suguru turns around on his heels and bring Satoru to his own room is probably not going to help with it.

“You’re the best, Suguru,” Satoru mutters when Suguru drops him on his bed.

“And don’t you forget it,” Suguru agrees and then bends down to take off Satoru’s shoes.

He’s not going to do anything about his uniform, but he slides Satoru’s glasses off before he heaves him further up and situates him correctly in the bed.

“Why the hell did you want to go out, Satoru?” he asks as he pushes a few errand strands of hair out of Satoru’s face. The question has been on the tip of his tongue ever since Satoru lied about there not being a reason and Satoru did promise to tell him once they are back.

“Sleep,” Satoru mumbles into the pillow and Suguru pokes his face until one blue eye opens to look at him.

“No. Tell me the reason. You made me carry you back here, so at least let me know why.”

“You’re the best, Suguru,” Satoru sighs out, his eye slipping shut again.

“I know, but that’s not a reason,” Suguru reminds him and Satoru curls up, clutching Suguru’s arm to his chest.

“I love you,” he says and then promptly falls asleep, leaving Suguru to blink at absolutely nothing.

“What the fuck, Satoru,” he finally gets out, a love so great welling up inside of his chest that it’s hard to breathe for a second. “What the actual fuck.”

Satoru doesn’t answer him of course, already blissfully asleep, and Suguru is mad enough that he thinks about shaking him awake again but in the end he can’t bring himself to do it. Satoru seems peaceful in his bed, face completely relaxed, his fingers still wrapped around Suguru’s wrist and so Suguru gives in and climbs into bed with him.

“What am I going to do with you, huh?” he asks into Satoru’s soft hair as he pulls him close and despite his heart beating wildly in his chest he falls asleep quickly, to the sound of Satoru’s soft breaths.

~*~*~

Suguru is—unsurprisingly—the first to wake up. Satoru must have moved a lot during the night because all of his incredibly long limbs are wrapped around Suguru and he has a hard time untangling himself from him.

But he needs to get up, because Satoru will have one hell of a headache when he wakes up as well and Suguru needs to have painkillers and maybe some food ready before that happens.

“I may be a meanie but you’re the true menace,” he says with a kiss to Satoru’s head before he finally forces himself out of bed.

By the time he comes back—food and painkiller at the ready—Satoru curled around nothing, still fast asleep.

“Unbelievable,” Suguru mutters and decides that he has waited long enough now.

Time to wake Satoru up.

He pokes and prods him until Satoru lets out a pained groan and the first thing Satoru sees when he opens his eyes is a glass of water and the painkillers.

“I am dying,” he groans out, reaching immediately for the offered goods and downs the pill in one go.

“That’s your own fault,” Suguru says, completely merciless and then he fixes Satoru with his best glare, even though he wants nothing more than to kiss his stupid, sleepy face.

“What happened?” Satoru asks, flopping down on the bed again and Suguru leans over him.

“Oh, I don’t know,” he says in a deceptively light voice and it’s apparently enough to get Satoru to open his eyes again. “You thought it would be a good idea to drag me out to a bar, where you got smashed in seconds, making me carry you back here, all so that you confess your undying love for me and then pass out, obviously hoping to conveniently forget all about it in the morning.”

Satoru has gone completely still in bed and Suguru isn’t sure if he’s even still breathing.

“I see,” Satoru finally whispers out and plasters his best smile on his face, the one that Suguru knows is as fake as it can be.

“You’re such an idiot,” Suguru informs him and then leans down to bring their lips together. “You could have just confessed like a normal person,” he adds when they part and he enjoys how red Satoru’s face has gone.

“And risk you rejecting me? I’m not actually that brave,” Satoru mumbles and Suguru simply has to steal another kiss for himself.

“There never was any danger of me rejecting you, you should have known that,” Suguru mumbles against his lips and chuckles when Satoru lets out a sigh as he slings his arms around Suguru’s shoulder.

“Maybe I should have but it’s not as if you were brave enough to confess, either.”

Point taken, Suguru thinks and lets his entire weight fall down on Satoru who lets out a surprised breath at that, but doesn’t actually complain.

“Well, thank you for being braver than me, then,” Suguru says into Satoru’s throat and feels Satoru shudder under him.

“You always say I’m too stupid to be brave.”

“Thank you for being stupid, then,” Suguru immediately amends and laughs when Satoru pinches him.

“Suguruuuu, you’re so mean to me, why are you still so mean to me?” he whines out and Suguru presses a kiss to his throat.

“Would you have it any other way?” he asks, even though he knows the answer.

“Of course not,” Satoru quickly replies and hugs Suguru closer. “Never.”

Suguru smiles and raises his head just far enough that he can kiss Satoru’s chin.

“Same,” Suguru says, because he too wouldn’t have Satoru any other way than spoiled, bratty, charming, sensitive and way too sweet.

“Do we have to get up yet?” Satoru asks after a moment and Suguru shakes his head.

“Nope. We have all the time in the world.”

“Good,” Satoru breathes out and then goes completely lax under Suguru.

It’s not long before they both are asleep again, limbs completely entangled and even when Suguru wakes up sweaty and with Satoru’s elbow digging into his side, he is happier than he has been in a long while.

He truly wouldn’t have it any other way.
