Work Text:
Finally the ghost crew had found a couple days off from fighting for their lives. Everyone finally got to spend some time doing what they love. Zeb got to eat, Sabine got to paint, Ezra was off practicing with his lightsaber, chopper was plotting his next war crime and Hera got to do what she wanted to do, Kanan.
“You know we should really look into getting a ship with a master bedroom.” Kanan says intertwined with Hera on his single bunk.
“I’m not selling the Ghost.” Hera says with a smirk.
“Okay, then let’s invest in a bed actually made for two people.” Kanan says trying to shift his weight off his arm that was currently falling asleep.
“But then we wouldn’t be this close now would we?” Hera says, pulling Kanan into her, stroking his face.
Kanans cheeks start to flush again. Hera has this charm about her that draws him in, making him feel just as helplessly in love with her as the first day they met.
“Fine I guess I’ll quit complaining.” He says, kissing her face, her cheek, her lips…
Hera looks up into his eyes, those beautiful eyes that have seen so much loss and pain yet were soft and inviting just for her. She blushed, getting equally swept up into him again.
When they were togther time slowed down. There was no care in the world, the only thing in the world was the two of them intertwined on this small mattress. All until the rose colored glass was shattered and they were snapped back into reality as the door swung open.
Kanan who already had other things on his mind, forgot to lock the door.
“Kanan I think I may have broken my lightsaber- “
Ezra, who stood in the doorway, was at a loss for words. He was utterly shocked at the sight he was seeing. He just stood there, staring, not able to think or move.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO KNOCK?” Kanan yells quickly covering himself. Hera was already completely under the blanket pretending not to exist.
“I… uh… ummm” Ezra stuttered “what are you doing?” He asks.
“Ezra, shut the door and LEAVE.” Kanan says with every ounce of dignity he had left.
“Okay…” says a very traumatized Ezra as he backs out of the room. All they heard was the clanging as he ran down the hall.
“Hera, I am so sorry.” Kanan says “it’s my fault I left the door unlocked, I er…got distracted.” Kanan says sitting up. Knowing the mood had been killed.
“It’s fine. He didn’t really see anything. He didn’t even know what we were doing.” She says, joining him sitting up.
“He has to know.” Kanan says. “He’s a pubescent boy.”
“Yes, but he’s Ezra…” Hera says gently.
“You’ve got a point there.” Kanan says shaking his head.
Hera turns twoards him with the familiar look on her face of a plan forming. She was scheming something.
“What?” Kanan asks, knowing that if she’s not saying it out loud, he wasn’t going to like it.
“I think it’s time you give Ezra the talk .” She says slowly. “You know you’re the Father figure in his life right now, I think it’s only fitting-“ she says getting cut off by Kanan.
“No- absolutely not. I’m not talking about that after what he just witnessed!” He says, folding his arms.
Hera looked at him with an award winning pout on her face.
“What kind of parents would we be if we sent him into the galaxy not knowing!” She protests.
“Smart ones-“ kanan says shrugging.
“Very funny Kanan. But this isn’t up for discussion.” She says with a kiss on his cheek. She really knew how to sway an argument to her side.
“What about Sabine? Have you given her the talk?” Kanan interjects.
“As a matter of fact I did.” Hera says proudly. “And it was lovely.”
Kanan sighs, defeated.
“Fine.” Kanan says, “I suppose Master Yoda did give me the talk back in the day… I guess it’s my turn now.”
Hera looks at him and chuckles. “Yoda? Gave you the talk?” She starts to crack herself up.
“Yeah well he didn’t exactly put it in a good light, speaking we weren’t supposed to do it.”
“Well maybe you can explain it a little better, from your experience.” Hera says with a smirk.
“Hey I’m not giving that talk alone!” Kanan protests “you’re helping me.”
Hera sighs “I’ll be happy to help.” She says sealing the deal with another kiss. And just like that, Kanan was lying back down, forgetting all about what he just promised.

The next morning, after a typical breakfast on the ghost, everyone was about to go their separate ways when Hera grabbed Ezra’s shoulder before he could leave.
“Hey could you hang back a second? Kanan and I want to have a little talk with you.” Hera says kindly.
But Ezra had a look on his face like he was trying to remember if there was something he should be in trouble for.
“Uhhh sure?” He says, looking around nervously for some reason.
Kanan slid in next to Ezra at the table and his nerves started to kick in more.
Sabine and Zeb, who were pretending not to eavesdrop, peek back around the corner.
“What did Ezra do this time?” Sabine asks, a smirk creeping up on her face.
“If you’re throwing him into space can I help?” Zeb asks.
Hera laughs while Ezra (who is being held back by Kanan) starts yelling insults at Zeb.
“No one’s in trouble, and no one is being thrown into space.” Hera assures everyone.
“You can stay if you want but Kanan and I are going to have the talk with Ezra here.” She says simply.
Sabine starts to back up. “You know, suddenly I am very busy.” She says disappearing down the hall.
Zeb starts to laugh. “Good luck, Kanan.”
“Thanks.” Says Kanan through gritted teeth.
Zeb turns and runs just as quickly as Sabine did. And then it was just the three of them.
Hera crosses over to the two boys at the table and smiles.
“So what am I getting lectured on this time?” Ezra asks, still thinking he’s in trouble.
“For once you’re not in trouble.”kanan interjects.
“Then what’s so important that you both have to talk to me?” Ezra asks.
Hera and kanan exchange glances, like who’s going to take this one.
After a long moment and silent conversation between Hera and Kanan, she gives in.
“It’s about what you walked in on last night.” Hera started tentatively.
“Next time, I promise I’ll knock. Now can I leave?” Ezra asks trying to stand up but Kanan sits him down.
“No actually you’re not done.” Kanan says firmly grabbing Ezra’s shoulder holding him in his seat.
Kanan attempts to speak multiple times to Ezra, but stops himself before he can form a sentence.
“So when you-“ kanan clears his throat “I mean, so there’s this thing-“ he shakes his head “when two people-“ he cringes.
“Are you going to lecture me or not?” Ezra asks.
“You can do this Kanan” Hera says with a supportive smile from the corner of the room.
“Look I have to tell you something, and I tell you this as your Master and parental guardian figure in your life. “
“I’m listening.” Ezra says with a sideways glance.
Kanan takes a deep breath. “Do you like a girl?” He asks.
Ezra loooks at him confused. “What’s that got to do with anything!”
“Have you liked a girl?” Kanan asks more sternly.
“Yeah. Of course I have.” He says.
“Good. Now do you know why?” Kanan asks, very seriously.
“I don’t think I understand your question.” Ezra says slowly, getting concerned.
“Because of hormones and pheromones. It’s like the force, but for feelings… between people.” Kanan continues “and with that force you get this sort of feeling, and well that feeling will make you do things. Do you know what this is about?” He asks.
“The Sith?” Ezra answers, still confused.
“No Ezra!” Kanan says face palming. “Not the Sith! What do they have to do with hormones?”
“Darth Hormone and Emperor Pheromone?” Ezra says shrugging.
“No.” Kanan says, rubbing his face. He then looks to Ezra trying to gauge if he’s being sarcastic or not. “Do you seriously think that? I’m genuinely concerned for you right now.”
“Kanan, dear, I think you just need to get to the point.” Hera interjects from the other side of the room where she’s been watching this awkward conversation.
“I’m getting there!” Kanan yells back.
“I’m confused. Is this about Jedi stuff or about girls?” Ezra asks.
Kanan groans in frustration leaning back into the bench.
“Both! Jedi traditionally weren’t supposed to form attachments, however, I personally believe that when two people love each other-“
Kanan gets cut off by the sound of the door opening and Zeb waltzing in.
Kanan shakes it off.
“Like I was saying, when two people love each other-“
“He’s talking about sex.” Zeb says as he walks through the room, grabs a drink, and then leaves without saying another word.
Kanan just looks exhausted.
Ezra stares at Kanan, then to Hera, and then back to Kanan.
“Wait let me get this straight, you were trying to give me the talk ?!”
“Wait you know what the talk is?” Kanan asks.
Ezra throws his arms out, “yes! Of course I do! How old do you think I am?!” He yells.
“Hera thought that maybe you didn’t know-“ kanan explains.
“You seemed confused last night,” Hera began.
“Shocked and disgusted? Absolutely. Confused? No.” Ezra states.
“Well, good. That settles that. Do you have any questions for me before we never speak of this conversation again?” Kanan asks.
“Yeah, I do, actually. How were you so bad at explaining it? I mean I honestly had no idea that was where the conversation was going.” Ezra says.
“Give him a break, Yoda gave him the talk.” Hera chimed in.
“Am I supposed to know who that is?” Ezra asks.
“You do know who that- but that’s not the point. The point is, I’m done. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m getting a drink and going to bed.” Kanan says.
Hera hands him a drink before he even knew he needed it.
“Thank you.” He says and leaves already opening the bottle and downing the contents.
Ezra watches from the table where he hadn’t moved. Both Hera and him stood in silence for a moment before Hera slipped into the bench seat next to Ezra.
“You know, I think the real reason he was so bad at explaining was because he was scared.” She says handing Ezra a cup of something warm.
She sipped on her own drink until Ezra spoke.
“Why was he scared?” He asked in a neutral manner.
Hera thinks about it a little before answering, “because he takes his job very seriously.”
“His job?”
“Mentoring you.” Hera says, looking over to Ezra.
Ezra just looks at his cup, silent.
“He wants to make sure you’re always set on the right path. Even if it seems like something trivial, like the sex talk, he takes it very seriously. He cares a lot about you.” Hera says with a smile.
Ezra looks up from his cup and meets her eyes.
“Now I feel kinda bad I didn’t let him finish.” Ezra says, “both times.”
Hera takes a sip of her drink, looking confused as to what he meant by “both times.” Then the realization hit her and she spit out her drink.
She started to cough and her face started to flush but she quickly covered it.
“Yeah you definitely didn’t need that talk after all.” Was all she said.
“There’s more where that come from if you-“
“No.” She said quickly shutting him down.
“You know, if you still feel bad you could go ask him about that lightsaber question that was so pressing earlier.” Hera says getting up and getting ready to leave the room.

Kanan hears a knock on the door. He smiles and chuckles to himself.
“Come in.” He calls out.
Ezra slowly peeks inside his room.
“See that wasn’t so hard was it.” Kanan says as Ezra makes his way to him.
“Hey kanan, I had a question about my lightsaber,”
Kanan smiles, “yes?”
“I think I broke it.”
Kanan groans as he gets up and grabs his glass.
“Alright let’s fix it together.” He says.
