Work Text:
In the spirit of Halloween, Stephen decided that they should at least decorate the foyer and front entrance of the New York Sanctum. That decision was not at all precluded by the fact that America had gotten far enough in her training for her to be able to stay there instead of Kamar-Taj, no not at all.
It was easy to put up cobwebs (or just not clean the Sanctum for a week or two and not admit it to Wong) and add some candles and other decorations. Now they just needed to carve some pumpkins.
“So you just carve whatever you want into it?” America asked, watching his shaky hands carve another triangle eye into the gourd.
“Yup. Typically people will do faces like I’m doing but people get very creative with it.” Stephen explained. He had started his work early on his pumpkin because with his hands, he knew it would take a while but didn’t want to use magic for this. It was why he had America come a bit later in the day.
“Hmmm.” She hummed, staring at the hollowed out pumpkin sitting in front of her. Stephen gave her a small smile before returning to his. He finally had the eyes and mouth done and just needed to do the nose. Before he could start, however, a small explosion next to him had the sorcerer jump to his feet in surprise.
With stringy pumpkin guts and seeds decorating her hair and shirt, America stared proudly at the star design now adorning the pumpkin. Stephen couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose in exasperation.
“Did you really just punch it?”
“Yup! And it worked!”
“You used your multiversal powers to open portals to carve a design in a pumpkin.”
“Exactly! And look how much control I had!”
………he could concede that point to her.
It was why he left the task of finishing the rest of them to her while he sat back and enjoyed his tea.
