Work Text:
Stephen sipped his tea as he attempted to read his book in the kitchen. It normally wouldn’t be his choice of location to relax in but America insisted he be there while she worked on her project.
“Now, I haven’t tried this particular recipe before but it’s like a normal cookie recipe though the way you add the pumpkin puree is different-“
He hadn’t known that she baked as a hobby. Honestly, Stephen hadn’t even realized she stayed in universes long enough to have a stable residence. He took another sip of his tea to hide his grimace. If it meant his kid was stable and happy, he’d be willing to do a lot of things. He wouldn’t even deny it anymore.
“What do you think?” He shook himself out of his thoughts to see America staring at him expectantly from across the room.
“I think your pumpkin spice cookies are delicious, America.”
“No- well yes they are, but I was asking what you thought about the order I’m putting everything in?”
Stephen frowned.
“Well, I don’t know anything about that. I haven’t baked before so I don’t know the rules.” Technically, that was a lie. The last time he had been drafted into baking was with his mother and Donna but he wasn’t going to dive into that today. It had also been decades ago.
“Really?! I thought you were the king of knowing random things. I would have thought baking would be your style since you like being precise and to the point about everything!”
Yeah, she had him there.
He set his book down and finished the last of his tea before rolling up his sleeves and joining America on the other side of the counter.
“Why don’t you teach me then? I have a reputation to uphold.” He suggested and America’s eyes brightened with excitement as a grin spread across her face.
“I get to teach you?! Wow, I’m never forgetting this!”
“Hush, kid. Just show me where to start.”
They both ended up covered in flour, pumpkin gooo, and Stephen had literal egg on his face.
The cookies were delicious, though.
