on a dark and stormy night

Summary:

Yusuke stumbles into Leblanc after being stabbed Morgana gets unexpected help.

Notes:

This is a semi sequel to "Like A Fairytale" which expands on the OC featured here more. I wasn't expecting to do much with her but she kinda showed up

Written for the Whumptober Day 25 prompt: Storms

Work Text:

The windows of Leblanc’s attic feel like they’re gonna crash in on Morgana any second, and he worries about Ren. He’s out doing shady things for Iwai, hopefully he won’t get hurt. It’s pitch black out, and only streaks of lightning let you see anything going on outside.

There’s a loud noise, but it takes Morgana a second to realize it’s not thunder, someone is banging on Leblanc’s door.

Given how monstrous this storm is, it shouldn’t be surprising that the person banging on Leblanc’s door is none other than Yusuke.

Morgana skillfully leaps off the counter to adjust the lock, and Yusuke stumbles in. He’s soaking wet and shaking like a leaf.

“You should get a proper rainco--” Morgana says, but then he realizes not all the wetness is from the rain. There’s clearly blood on Yusuke’s shirt and sleeve from where he’s gripping it.

“What happened?” Morgana gasps.

“Got mugged,” Yusuke mutters. “They were disappointed. I didn’t have much.”

“Gah, ok. Don’t move.”

“Wasn’t planning on it,” Yusuke says, stumbling into a booth.

Morgana rushes out and nearly runs into a woman in a pink raincoat.

“Huh? What, upset by the rain?”

“Not now!” Morgana yells, “My friend’s in trouble.”

He skirts around her when he hears her gasp. “Yusuke-kun?!”

She knows Yusuke?

Morgana runs back and yells at the woman, “Hey! If you know him call an ambulance!”

Perhaps she understands him, or maybe he just snapped her out of her shock, because she takes out her phone and dials 119.

“What the hell are you doing here?! Yusuke-kun?!” The woman says in a panicked whisper.

“S-Suzuki-san?” Yusuke mutters.

Morgana can't think of where he heard that name before, but if she’ll help Yusuke, he doesn’t care.

“Tell her to call Boss too!” Morgana says.

“I can’t…”

“Can’t what?” Suzuki says, grabbing an some towels.

“Boss, he owns this place…”

“What’s his number?”

Yusuke mumbles it. “Sorry, didn’t mean to inconvenience you.”

“Shut up,” Suzuki says, typing in the number, then putting the phone on speaker and setting it on the table.

She moves Yusuke onto the floor and rolls the towel up to place in the wound, then starts applying pressure as soon as Boss picks up.

“Sojiro Sakura speaking.”

“Yusuke-kun’s bleeding out on the floor of your cafe,” Suzuki says.

“What?”

“He gave me your number, I’ve already called an ambulance.”

“I’ll be right over.”

“The hell were you thinking?” Suzuki mutters.

“They tried to take my keys…” Yusuke says.

“Your keys?”

Morgana sees Yusuke clutching the keys that are always on his hip.

“They’re worth your life?!”

“All my important memories… are in that locker…”

“Why didn’t you go to the hospital at least?”

“...I wanted to see my mom before I died,” Yusuke says.

Suzuki follows his gaze towards The Sayuri .

“...that damn old man,” Suzuki mutters.

There’s the roar of the ambulance, which arrives just as Sojiro gets there. Morgana wants to follow but they don’t allow cats in EMTs.

“What happened?”

“Saw him bleeding out in one of your booths while I was heading home,” Suzuki says.

“He’s a friend of the kid I let stay here,” Sojiro explains, “guess he didn’t lock the door.”

“I let him in!” Morgana says, and Sojiro and Suzuki look at him.

“...I guess I could see you letting him in or something,” Sojiro says.

“It’s a cat.”

“He’s a smart cat,” Sojiro says, shrugging. “Want some coffee?”

“No, I should go home.”

“I could give you the ride to the hospital, if you want?”

“No.”

Sojiro raises an eyebrow. “How do you know him?”

“It’s complicated. I don’t like him very much.”

“Really? Thanks for not letting him die on my floor then.”

“I’m a bitch , not a monster,” Suzuki says.

Suddenly it clicks for Morgana. She’s Sayaka Suzuki, her best friend was a pupil of Madarame’s a decade ago and Suzuki blamed Yusuke for the abuse her friend suffered.

For his part, Yusuke agreed, but he was also six at the time and Morgana’s overheard him on the phone with Ren blaming himself for accepting food when he’s hungry, so Yusuke’s not really reliable when it comes to Madarame.

Besides, an adult should realize the real bad guy in all of this was Madarame!

Suzuki seems to realize Morgana’s glaring at her.

“Your cat’s creepy as fuck.”

“Aw, don’t be like that. He’s a real softie.”

The bell rings and Ren comes in, raising an eyebrow at the strange scene. Suzuki definitely recognizes him.

“You,” she mutters.

“Took the words right out of my mouth,” Ren says. “What’s going on here?”

“Yusuke got stabbed during a mugging, and she was nearby and helped,” Morgana explains, running over to him. Ren’s eyes flash, but he doesn’t react so as not to arouse suspicion.

“Yusuke-kun was injured, he’s going to the hospital now, I assume you’ll want to go see him.”

“Do you want to know if he’s ok?” Ren asks.

She rolls her eyes, but grabs a business card out of her purse. “Do what you want… I guess I wanna know if he dies or whatever.”

“Do you really hate him that much?”

“How I feel is no one’s business but my own. Stay out of it.”

“You see how ridiculous you’re being right?” Ren asks, and Suzuki just laughs.

“I guess I was being unfair to the cat,” she says, turning to Sojiro. “He’s only like that because your kid’s creepy as fuck.”

She heads to the door, but stops and stares at the Sayuri for a second.

“Call me when you find out how he is,” she says. “I can think of a few people who are worried about him.”
