Chapter Text

It had been two weeks since Michelangelo first met Mondo Gecko and convinced him to join the side of good. While it took a while for the citizens of New York to see that the skater gecko isn’t as bad as they initially thought, it didn’t take him nearly as long to adjust to his new home in the sewers. Within that short amount of time, Mondo met Andrew ‘AJ’ James and his skateboarding gang. He took to them like mutant pigs to mud and joined the crew. Liking the atmosphere and the not as many strict rules to follow, such as not trying to hit on AJ’s girlfriend Candy Fine or anything like that. Despite some of the girls’ less than pleasant reactions to him, but it was nothing that the skater gecko can’t handle due to years of scaring them as a thief. Michelangelo had mentioned to him that AJ has a younger sister, but Mondo didn’t pay any attention to names nor age. He wasn’t looking for anything THAT serious with a girl at the moment. Most of them wouldn’t even find him attractive anyway.

Besides, no girl would ever consider going out with him. But Cupid had other plans for Mondo and he didn’t even know it.

He and Michelangelo were hanging out with the Merciless Slaughter gang, showing off their skateboarding skills and having fun. When one of the other boys, Noah Costa showed up with the biggest grin on his face. Most of the activity died down when they saw the grin, which got Mondo’s attention. What exactly made this guy so happy all of a sudden? And why did he have this feeling that the news is majorly important? “Chris is home!” Noah shouted with glee, his thick Spanish accent present. Pretty much most of the gang was cheering while Mondo was beyond confused. “Huh... Who on Earth is Chris?” the skater gecko asked Michelangelo. The surfer turtle simply smiled and answered, “Chris is AJ’s second in command of the gang and younger sister, amigo. She’s also one of my best buds, besides you of course. You’ll be meeting her very soon, dude.”

“HER?!”

“Yeah, man, Chris is also a nickname for Christina. You’ll grow to like her, she’s cool.”

Mondo simply chuckled while sharing a high five with Curtis ‘Curly’ Sims. Deep down, he was nervous about meeting this mystery girl. Who she is and what she looks like amongst other important things. What if she didn’t like him and kicked him out of the gang? Or judged him solely on his history as a former thief? And more importantly, what if she only preferred mutant turtles entering the Merciless Slaughter gang? No...he would not go down that road. If Michelangelo referred to her as one of his best friends, then Mondo was going to have to trust the words that came out of his friend’s mouth.

He won’t judge her until he met her and got a feel of her personality. Just then, a lone figure skated up to them, riding a girl’s skateboard, no doubt. Mondo took notice of her shape matching that of Michelangelo and AJ’s, but more feminine and curvy. Her attire definitely screamed skater girl with a little of greaser and rocker influence thrown in. The skater gecko definitely liked the way that she looks. She then removed a baby blue and white helmet off her head, her mid-length medium brown hair falling loosely. Revealing of the face of a female mutant turtle sporting a white face mask. “Hi guys, I’m back.” a soft and feminine, yet playful voice spoke, matching that of an angel.

The moment Mondo saw her face, his red eyes turned into hearts. Letting out a wolf whistle, he catcalled, “Hubba, hubba!” She’s the most beautiful mutant girl he’s ever seen. Michelangelo bit back a snicker at his friend’s reaction. She, on the other hand, went over to the surfer turtle, used to the attention her looks would get her.

“Welcome back, dudette! How was Japan?” he asked, watching his half-shelled friend run her brush through her hair. Making sure that she kept her hair neat due to it being in a helmet most of the ride here. “Oh man, where do I even begin? We got what we needed to do done, but I’ll give the full details to you and the other guys later. Right now, I heard that we got a new member to our growing gang...” the she-turtle answered, directing her attention to the skater gecko checking her out. “I’d assume that you’re referring to me, beautiful?” Mondo asked in a flirty tone, going up to the girl. She felt her cheeks burning from the compliment before clearing her throat. “Yes, actually I am. You must be Mondo Gecko, right? AJ and Michelangelo told me a lot about you...” the she-turtle answered before realizing that the skater gecko took her hand in his.

“You heard right, baby. And you must be Chris. The pleasure’s all mine.”

As soon as Mondo finished speaking, he kissed the back of Christie’s hand. Michelangelo was watching and still biting back a snicker. His friend has it BAD for his other friend and yet, he has a good feeling in his stomach that it’ll work out between them. Christie was blushing quite a bit before once again clearing her throat. “My actual name is Christina James, but most call me Christie. Only a few individuals call me Chris and Chrissy.” she managed to say. “Still think Chris suits you, baby cakes. And you’re hotter than any human babe I’ve ever seen.” Mondo cooed before throwing a flirty wink at her. The half-shelled kunoichi was completely red in the face at that point.

Many of the other girls were giggling at the exchange. She then decided that he was a good fit for the gang, but that she’ll get to know him more before she decided whether she liked him or not. Either way, he’s not going to make her swoon that easily.

Or so Christie thought...

Chapter Text

Christie James sighed as she sat down on a bench in Central Park, taking a bookmark out of her book and began to read it. Trying very hard to focus on anything other than the gecko occupying her thoughts right now. And failing since all Christie could think about was slow dancing with him in the moonlight. A few days had passed since she first met Mondo and to say that she found his wild boyish charms attractive is a major understatement. No, Christie found herself falling for him in no time flat. That in of itself wasn’t the problem. What was the problem was the timing of it all. From what Michelangelo had told her, Mondo barely knew what true friendship, let alone love, is and the last thing that she wanted to do was scare him away. The young kunoichi closed her book upon realizing that this new feeling won’t leave her alone until she at least asked him how he truly feels about her.

“Ooh, Baby Cakes, I know that you’re around here somewhere!”

Speak of the devil and he shall come, Christie learned the hard way in her early fighting days with the guys. Sure enough, Mondo grabbed her in a behind hug. Which caused the young kunoichi’s face to darken out of embarrassment. The pet names and flirting, Christie can handle due to her constantly getting those from numerous guys. But touching’s only reserved for those in her friend circle.

“What cha doing, baby?”

“I was trying to read, but couldn’t focus due to me having some stuff on my mind.”

“Oh? What kind of stuff?”

Mondo then plopped himself down on the park bench, wearing that goofy grin that would make most girls swoon if he was human. And the young kunoichi was fighting very single urge to just kiss him right now. As well as blurt out her real thoughts. Which is why Christie simply answered with a “Oh, girl stuff...” while staring at the ground. The skater gecko didn’t say anything further than that, knowing that there are some things guys aren’t meant to know about girls.

“What are you doing here, Mondo?” Christie asked, deciding to change the subject. Hoping to at least direct some attention to anything but this awkward phase in their new relationship. Mondo simply smiled and handed her a bouquet of flowers. “Here, I got these for you.” was all he said as the young kunoichi accepted them. She realized that they were some of her favorite flowers and that there was a white envelope attached to the wrapping. Seeing her name printed in green ink, Christie took the envelope and opened it. She took out a note and began to read it.

Only for her face to turn bright red upon finishing it. The note clearly read in green ink:

“My sweet and beautiful Chrissy-Pie,
I’m well aware that this is probably a little too fast for you, but better now than never, right? To put it simply: I like-like you a lot. Will you go out with me? If not, then that’s cool, too.
Forever yours,
Mondo”

Christie turned around and saw that the gecko was looking at anything but her. Scared of her reaction to his question. Wondering if she’ll accept or reject him. He’s no different from her brother AJ when it came to romance and asking out that one special girl. The only difference is that AJ wore his heart on his sleeve while Mondo tried to keep certain likes hidden. Many girls would find the gecko’s behavior dismissive and uncaring, but Christie picked up on cues from Mondo very early on. And he was telling her that he feels the same about her. She then went over to him and sat next to him. Not telling him her answer quite yet.

“I-I meant every word in that note, baby. But if you don’t...” Mondo started to blab before he felt a pair of green lips land on his cheek. Causing him to freeze instantly and turn a bright shade of red. Christie is kissing his cheek and he was enjoying it. A little too much, but still...

“Of course, I’ll go out with you, silly. I like-like you, too.”

“R-Really?”

“Really, really.”

Christie got up and went on home with Mondo watching her leave. He was resisting the urge to let out a joyous shout due to him being in a public place. So the skater gecko settled for doing a joyful dance all the way back home. Michelangelo was going to be pleased when he hears about this occasion. Now to figure out where to go on their date and when to go. And whether he should wear some stupid monkey suit for the date or not...

Either way, her lips will be his for sure next time.
