Chapter Text
"Do you think this will be enough for you two...?" Honami asks, eyeing the bags with homemade food. They were actually kinda big, but she couldn't help but worry.
"..." Mafuyu stares at the full bags, he responds with raising an eyebrow. "Yes." noticing that it didn't seem to calm his girlfriend, he sighs. "If it –somehow– doesn't, I'll cook something else." he reassures quietly, cooking was never an issue for him.
At that, Honami smiles while shaking her head. "The other day Kana told me that you didn't use condiments and it ended tasting kind of bland."
His eyes widen, genuinely surprised. "Ah..." Mafuyu deflates, looking at the floor.
The drummer frowns. Not wasting any time, she comforts her boyfriend. "She didn't mean it like that. She also said that anything you make is enough," she smiles softly at the sigh of relief that leaves Mafuyu's mouth. "She also noted that you looked pretty when you concentrate." Honami brings a hand to cover the smile that tugs at her lips when she sees the faintest flush on her boyfriend's cheeks.
Mafuyu hums, responding nonverbally. He brings a hand to play with his hair while his eyes travel towards the clock. He blinks, "...you should go. Didn't you and your group plan an outing today?" he asks with a tilt of his head.
Honami squeaks as she notices the time, "Y-you're right. I need to go, I'll be back another day. Take care of yourself and our girlfriend!" with that, she runs through the door, but takes a moment to close it properly.
The honor student stands there for a while. He shakes his head in a way that could be considered affectionate. He then decides to heat up some food for when kanade gets up.
It doesn't take a lot of time for that to happen, because when he is letting the food cold down, he hears a familiar yawn behind him.
"...Mhm morning ...'Fuyu." the lyricist turns around to face his girlfriend, he hums a greeting when he sees her wiping the sleep of her eyes.
Kanade glances around the kitchen, she tilts her head in confusion. Mafuyu copies her behaviour, tilting his head almost unnoticeably, silently asking 'what's wrong'. They end up in a quiet staring competition, till the composer breaks the silence.
"... Where's Honami?" She asks, her voice still raspy from sleep, the breathy tone of her voice remains the same as always.
Ah. Mafuyu sighs, his shoulders relax. "She's practicing with her band." he sees Kanade deflate and can't keep the amusement out of his voice. "She spent the whole night here, yet you want more?" Kanade feels her cheek burn at the inusual teasing tone coming from Mafuyu.
Kanade halfheartedly walks towards a chair and sits down. Mafuyu smiles quietly at her lack of response.
They stay in silence while Mafuyu heats up their breakfast-lunch (?), Kanade isn't sure what to call it. She smiles as she sees his boyfriend carefully checking the time to not overheat the food.
The often sense of domesticity that she gets everytime her partners spend time with her on her house is a welcoming one. Even if everytime means 'always' for Mafuyu and 'most of her free time' for Honami.
Since Mafuyu started living with her, she feels more encouraged to get out of her room and outside. Kanade sometimes had to ask her girlfriend for help, she wasn't exactly the most careful person with herself, how could she care for another person on her house?
Honami, of course, accepted her request of help. Kanade remembers how her girlfriend's eyes were full of adoration, a small relieved smile adorned her lips. "You really care about this person enough to go out of your comfort zone, don't you?" Honami had giggled, "I'll help with whatever you need."
The warm fuzzy feeling on her chest makes her smile unconsciously. She's really lucky, isn't she?
Fingers tapping the table catch her attention. Kanade looks up, finding Mafuyu looking quizzically at her.
"Why aren't you eating?"
Eh? she looks at the table to find a plate already served. She blinks, it may not appear so, but Kanade usually doesn't have a bad time guessing what time it is.
She smiles apologetically, "Sorry...it seems I got lost in thought." she stares at her food. It smells nice, it'll probably taste nice. She grabs her chopsticks and starts to eat.
Mafuyu nods, "It's ok." his plate is almost empty now, his pace slows noticeably, Kanade smiles knowing he's waiting for her.
The food tasted really good, but Kanade isn't sure she can finish it. She pushes her 3/4 empty plate towards the center of the table, indicating she won't eat more.
Mafuyu stares blankly at her, before shaking his head, a flick of concern can be seen on his eyes. He grabs her plate and heads towards the refrigerator. Then he stops, remembering something.
"...Kanade." she perks up at her name. "Earlier, Honami and I baked apple pie with the more mature apples I brought." he mentioned and Kanade nodded. She was aware that he liked apples because they were crunchy, his distaste for the ones that didn't have that texture was general knowledge.
"So...Do you want a slice?"
"Err..." she staled, she wasn't exactly hungry, but the apple pies that Honami makes are really nice.
Mafuyu frowns. "Please?" he offers again, remembering that Honami told him to take care of Kanade.
The composer sighs, the look he was giving her was too strong, in Mafuyu terms. She relents, "Alright, but only if you have one too."
He nods quickly, grabbing a knife to cut the apple pie.
She sighs, but a smile tugs at her lips.
"I see...so he won't be home for a few hours then?" Honami asks, her focus fixated on cleaning the two plates on the sink, she smiles to herself when she notices a piece of apple pie.
Kanade sighs, disappointed. "No, it seemed like a fellow class representative asked him to come to her house for help planning an event."
Honami hums, 90% sure that's Emu. Although it would be nicer if Mafuyu was here too, spending time with Kanade alone is nostalgic. It's not that it doesn't happen anymore, it's just rare.
They stay in silence while Honami scrubs the food particles off the plates.
Till she hears a faint tune coming from Kanade's lips. Honami turns around to find her girlfriend with a soft smile, her eyes find Honami's.
The drummer feels herself smile unconsciously. "What is it?"
Kanade shakes her head, the smile remains on her lips. "I...just got an idea on how to continue our next song, thank you for being here." she taps her fingers on her arm as she would on her computer.
Honami giggles, happy to be of help. She's about to reply with sweet worlds –as always– but she notices something. 'Continue'? she asks herself...Mafuyu told her that Kanade at gotten stuck with the new song this morning and she didn't start it.
She frowns, letting the plates dry on the pantry. Honami heads towards the refrigerator to find that, indeed, Kanade didn't eat today.
She sighs. "Kanade...since when were you composing?" she decides to ask.
Kanade eyes widen at the sudden question. "Err...since Mafuyu went to school." Honami gasps, since school started? she probably didn't even have breakfast with Mafuyu...
Honami turns around to begin preheating the oven. "Did you and Mafuyu have breakfast together?" her eyes find Kanade's for a second.
"...Ah... I knew I was forgetting something. No...I didn't, he was in a hurry and had to go. He told me to make breakfast, but I got distracted." she explains ashamedly, her gaze fixed on the floor.
Honami's gaze becomes softer, she sighs. "I'll cook something then." she smiles at her girlfriend, "Can you prepare the ingredients I'm going to use? the receipt is on the fridge door."
Kanade looks up and nods, quickly following Honami's directions. The drummer smiles quietly at that, grateful for having such a nice girlfriend.
But Honami can't help but notice that Kanade looks a little more lethargic than usual. A small -big- pang of worry ignites on her chest. She grabs her phone and quickly sends a text.
Mafuyu💜

-I tried to get her to eat anything else, but she was set on it.
I see :/-
I'll see you later, then-
ily-
Honami turns off her phone, she sighs. Her and Mafuyu were trying to get their girlfriend to stop religiously eating cup noddles. It was a process.
She turns her attention to her new task, cooking a meal that has enough nutrients to make up for today and yesterday. She already knows what to cook.
Kanade hums happily. "This tastes really nice, thank you for the food Honami..." she sends the drummer a small smile, the one in which her eyes soften.
Honami giggles, the warmth feeling on her cheeks causes her to cup her own cheek to try and hide her blush. The shorter girl chuckles at the action.
They sit and eat in silence. Except for the casual conversation about their days. Kanade talking about a composer she discovered yesterday and liked how they sounded, meanwhile Honami nodded along with a gentle smile.
They suddenly hear key clacking coming from the door. It opens, revealing a exhausted looking Mafuyu. His bubbly smile disappears as soon as the door closes, but his eyes light up when he spots them eating.
Kanade is the first to greet him. "Mafuyu! was your day interesting?" she asks in almost a whisper, Mafuyu heard her anyways.
He stops a second, thinking his answer throughout. He end shrugging, "You could say so. Days aren't exactly boring with Otori..." his voice is blank, but Honami and Kanade can tell he doesn't mean it in a bad way.
Honami giggles. "I see... I'll get you a plate so you can eat. We finished ten minutes ago, the food should still be warm." she stands up, grabbing hers and Kanade's plates.
Mafuyu smiles, almost unnoticeably. "Thank you, Honami. Ah wait-" he stops and Honami completely turns around to show she's listening. "I didn't reply your message, but I love you too." he answers honestly.
Honami blushes, but she nods, sending him a soft smile. She turns towards the kitchen.
Kanade can't help but smile at her partners antics. She gestures Mafuyu to sit besides her. He does.
But not before pinching her cheek without any real force. She squeaks in surprise and turns around to stare at him with wide eyes.
Mafuyu shakes his head disapprovingly. "You didn't have breakfast nor lunch. Right?" his hand travels to hold Kanade's hand.
The composer sighs, melting with his touch. "No..."
He frowns. "You worry us sometimes. Take care of yourself." he chastises lightly.
"He's right. You need to be more kind with yourself." Honami interjected, in her hand was a purple plate with bunnies. The one she bought for Mafuyu.
Mafuyu nods and Kanade deflates.
"I know...I'll be more careful. I promise." Kanade decided. Her partners scanned her eyes for any type dishonesty. They didn't find anything, so they nodded with a small smile.
That week, Honami found there were less empty cup noddles to clean around the house. She smiled to herself.
