Oscar Pine gets fostered like a kitten

Summary:

Oscar moves in with Ozpin in the middle of RWBY's first year. There's RoseGarden and a ton of Oscar sass. It will follow the show plot roughly, based on my own (arguably bad) memory. Inspired by time travel fics but I don’t want Oscar to know the future and be all angsty, check out my other fic for that. I love the Oscar and Oz tension though so I’m keeping that by adding drama in their living situation. I hope you find it as wild as an authors note from someone who is having an *experience*.

Updates will be slow as shit :D

Notes:

They will swear so beware. Also I had a ridiculous amount of fun with the backstory for this. It’s just chapter one unless people tell me to bring it back lol. I want this fic to be Oscar chaos so I’m setting the chaos early.
(After some review maybe I will bring it back because it's very funny)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Oscar had always known Beacon was a big place, but looking at the view from the airship it was easy to determine he had never truly understood the vastness of the school campus. It only made him feel smaller, which was not helping his mental health.

Aunt Dorothy had been taken in by the local huntsmen for her illegal drug farm (which Oscar thought was utter bullshit - it's not like they were selling it for profit they were just helping their neighbor with her anxiety because her old dealer was seriously up-charging and why shouldn’t they be allowed to help) so now Oscar had to go live with his dead Uncle’s younger brother who he had never met because he was a pompous prick who didn’t want to get involved in the political scandals that his older brother married into.

He kind of understood. Aunt Dorthothy did get wild. But he still didn’t agree with the horrible idea of being forced to live with a man who had been no contact with his side of the family his entire life. Hell, he might not even know of Oscar’s existence. Given that he was Aunt Dorothy’s younger sister’s teen pregnancy caused a lot of people to avoid mentioning him.

There’s a lot going on with the family drama (don’t get him started on the stuff Aunt Dorothy’s older brother did), and Oscar wondered if he would ever know peace. That’s what the farm life was supposed to be - in theory. In practice it was just so much drama. City life is supposedly even wilder and Oscar was a lot less than thrilled at the concept.

The airship landed and it was time to bring his Uncle Ozpin the “congrats on the foster kid” certificate. He eyed good places to sleep in case he got the door slammed in his face. It was likely.

The only thing he knew about his Uncle was that he worked for Beacon Academy, or at least he did before Oscar existed, so hopefully someone knows where he is now if he isn’t still a professor.

Oscar simply hoped he could find him before nightfall. It had been a rough trip and he was really hoping for a bed, but he’d settle for a couch. Maybe the school would let him use an unused dorm saved for festivals if his Uncle didn’t want him. It wasn’t the worst deal, at least he’d have access to the library and a safe place to crash. And if he lived alone, things would be calmer. He could start fresh. Some part of him hoped he could work that out instead of staying with his Uncle.

He got off the air ship with his backpack and began to wander the campus. He figured he should start with wherever office hours were held.

“Woah! Someone my age!”

A blurr of red crossed his vision and faded into a beautiful girl with dark red hair and the shiniest eyes Oscar had ever seen.

“You have silver eyes,” Oscar blurted.

“You have a hole in your shirt.”

Oscar looked down to find it. “Huh. That I do.”

“Well, now that we’ve noticed things about each other, lets be friends! I’m Ruby.”

“Oscar. Any chance you know a professor Pine? Does he still work here?”

“Uhhh I have no idea.”

They were joined by three other people who had sprinted after Ruby when she darted off from them.

“Weiss! This is perfect. You would know. Is there a Professor Pine?”

“Professor Pine?” Weiss responded with a swish of her ponytail.

“Yeah, Oscar here is looking for him.”

“Shouldn’t he be looking for a bath first?” One of the other girls elbowed Weiss for her comment. “Sorry, but you stink.”

“Thanks,” Oscar deadpanned.

“What are you looking for him for, anyway?”

“Long story.”

The girls exchanged looks. The black haired girl spoke up, “maybe the headmaster would know? I think he would know all staff and their comings and goings.”

“Ooo good idea,” said Ruby.

“Alright, well, do you know where I could find him?”

“We can walk you there if it helps. Wouldn’t want you getting lost,” the blonde smiled at him.

“If you don’t mind, that would be great.”

It was a bit of a walk, and Oscar learned their names and that they were a team at Beacon. They led him to the top of a tower and knocked on the door.

They were greeted at the door by a tall man clad in green with silver hair, and oak colored eyes. “How may I help you?” He looked at Oscar in particular.

“I’m looking for Professor Ozpin Pine. Do you know where I can find him?”

If he hadn’t been in front of team RWBY he would have seen all their mouths form Os.

“Well, you found him.”

“Really? Well in that case.” Oscar fumbled in his pocket before pulling out a party horn and blowing it at him, “congratulations! I’m your new foster kid!”
