Chapter Text
It was a calm morning and Mario and Luigi were relaxing at home. Mario sat on the couch watching tv in the living room and Luigi lay on his head reading. Things were a bit slow, but peaceful. That was until the phone rang. Mario hurried to pick it up. On the other side was Peach.
“Mario! Come quick! And bring Luigi! We need you both to investigate this glowing book!”
“Isn’t that-a more of a job for professionals?” Mario asked. “We don’t-a have any qualifications or-a experience.”
“Just come over here, we don’t really have anyone with this in their specialty.” Peach replies, too tired to find someone else. “Besides, if it leads to a ridiculous adventure, you’re the most likely to survive it.”
“Fair enough-a.” Mario hung up the phone, and turned towards the bedroom. “Weegee!” Called Mario, “We’re headed to-a the castle! Grab your shoes and let’s-a go!” Mario runs out the door and Luigi follows close behind, hopping as he slips on his shoes. Soon enough they reach the castle and step inside.
Mario skids to a stop at the castle and asks a nearby toad soldier where the princess is.
“Last I saw her, she went to the library. Apparently she was cleaning it.” Informs the toad soldier. Mario nods, and zooms past the toad.
“Thank you!” Luigi calls as he follows Mario into the library.
As they head inside, they check rows of book sections. Eventually, they come across an open doorway in the wall and a tilted book slowly moving inwards, like a timer. They head down the hall and the door closes behind them. They find Princess Peach and Toadsworth standing near a pedestal with a floating storybook. It’s glowing.
“Wow, that’s-a strange.” Comments Luigi as he points to the cover. “It has-a us on it. But we look-a cartoony.”
Mario, confused, puts his hand on the back of his neck. “Yeah, this is a bit-a out of my element. Weegee, you handle weird-a glowing and floaty things all the time.” he nudges Luigi closer to the book. “Why-a don’t you do it?”
“Just-a because I handle ghost related stuff all the time, doesn’t-a mean everything magic and-a glowing is ghost related!” Luigi spews back in frustration, waving his arms in the air. Reluctantly, he walks up to the book and opens it. He happens to open up in the chapter called “Super Paper Mario”. Suddenly, in a flash of light, characters go flying out of the book!
“Mamma Mia! Weegee, close the book!” Mario calls out while holding his hands in front of his face in a blocking stance.
“I can’t! It’s-a shooting out too much-a stuff!” Luigi replies in a loud volume, due to the noise coming out of the book.
In a loud ‘wahoo’, a Paper Mario comes out of the book, jumping onto Luigi’s head in confusion. Paper Luigi follows, and Luigi feels something odd. He sees a flash of himself, but in a villainous outfit. He rubs his eyes, and nothing is there.
