A lot had happened in the 24 hours since Emmet had been contacted about Ingo’s return.
First, he had to wait for his train to return to Gear Station, which really only took about thirty minutes, but felt like forever. Then, they had to go to the hospital since Ingo had a few injuries that he had failed to mention earlier.
When they were at the hospital, Ingo oh so casually revealed that he had time travelled to get here and had amnesia, causing the doctors to run more tests and want Ingo to stay overnight for observation. Neither Ingo nor Emmet wanted that but agreed that it was probably for the best.
The next day, Emmet returned to the hospital the moment visiting hours started and Ingo was released soon after. They went home, Ingo reunited with their Pokemon, and explained the situation to them. Then Ingo took a much-needed shower. Once he got out, Emmet made the group decision that it was time for lunch.
Which led Emmet to discover an actually fun thing about Ingo having amnesia.
“And what does this do?” Ingo asked with wide eyes, pointing at the toaster.
He was absolutely enamored by modern day technology.
Emmet laughed lightly as he walked over. “That is a toaster. It makes toast. And frozen waffles too, I guess. We don’t have any of those, but do you want toast? To see how it works.”
Ingo nodded enthusiastically. “Oh, yes please!”
Emmet took out two slices of bread and held them out to Ingo. “Here. Put one in each slot and then push this down until it doesn’t pop back up.”
It took a couple tries for Ingo to push the bread down far enough for the toaster to start up. When it did, he looked back at Emmet, almost vibrating from excitement. “Like that?”
Emmet nodded. “Yup!” He went over and opened the fridge, which had been the first kitchen appliance Ingo had marveled over, and pulled out some jam. “When it is done, we can put some jam on it and eat it. You will like the jam. It is Pecha berry.”
Emmet turned around to see Ingo hovering his face over the toaster. “How do we know when it is done?”
A good friend would tell Ingo.
“You will know.”
Unfortunately, Emmet was his brother.
Ingo continued to watch the bread in the toaster as Emmet put the jam on the counter and slid over the butter. Trying hard not to laugh too soon, Emmet got out a butter knife and a spoon for the jam.
“The bread is getting quite dark. I think it’s almost d-”
Pop!
Ingo jumped a foot in the air with a shout as Emmet collapsed in a fit of giggles.
“Emmet?” Ingo asked, breathless and with a hand against his chest.
“I am Emmet,” Emmet squeaked between laughter from the ground.
Ingo ran a hand through his hair with one hand and gestured towards the toaster with the other. “What was that?”
Emmet managed to pull himself back up using the counter. “Toast is done!”
