Chapter 1: Missing

Chapter Text

I sat on the roof, the sounds of the dark city roaring in my ears, yet oddly my head my quiet. A cold breeze playfully poking my shoulder snaps me from my daze. I rub my temples with a huff, falling back into a laying position.

I thought to myself how dramatic I was being, a slight chuckle escaped my lips with my thought. Recently, my dog, Bowser, went missing. I had barely the slightest speck of hope that he would come back. He was alone in big bad New York, the city is big so it’s only a slim chance he’d find home, if he’s not dead that is..

I sit back up and lean against the dirty lip of the cold roof, the city lights illuminating the dark roof.
I picked up my phone and looked down at the bright screen with a slight hiss, so many missed calls and unanswered messages. I clicked my phone off and sighed. I’m not answering, I don’t care. I stand against my grievance and walk to the side of the roof, sliding off the edge and quietly landing on the fire escape.

I place my hand on the mucky window, and slide it open, carefully climbing inside and landing in my room. I close and lock the window behind me and lie on my bed, a quiet moan leaving me and I grip my pillow. I soon fall into a slumber.

“BMM! BMM!” I jumped from my sleep and rubbed my eyes, grabbing my phone and shutting off my alarm. “Shut the fuck up and rot in hell, dumb stupid alarm ass.. bitch..” I grumbled sleepily, tossing my phone of the ground and nuzzling my face into my fluffy pillow. “I hate this. I hate everything. I hate that I’m a night owl!” I punch my pillow a couple times with a grunt, swiftly sitting up and hunching over the edge of my bed.

I look down at my legs realizing I’m still wearing my clothes from yesterday. I didn’t even take off my shoes. I growl and wobbly stand from my bed kicking off my shoes and sloppily walking out of my bedroom into the living room.

I stumble into the bathroom, stretching my arms as I look at myself in the mirror before glaring at myself. “Yes, your honor, I’m highly capable of moving out early and living by myself!” I mocked to myself. “I’m so mature, I even have two jobs your honor!” I huff and point at myself in the mirror. “And they HAD to know that Y/n!? Well then, gotta get your big adult panties on then!” I poke the mirror a few times before running my fingers through my messy hair.

“First, don’t look AS homeless,” I bend down and turn the slightly rusted faucet of the tub and pull off my dirty shirt, getting down and leaning over the tub to run my hair in the water. I grab my conditioner and massage it into my hair and then I wash it out, flipping off the faucet.

I grab a towel and pat my hair damp then scrunch in some of my hair products, I check myself out in the mirror before walking back to my room. “Now for the panties part of our mission,” I open my drawer and dig through all my clothes, throwing some contenders on my unmade bed. After a couple minutes I walk over to my bed and toss together an outfit. “Wow very mature! A whole outfit that doesn’t have one super hero on it,” I roll my eyes and smirk at myself.

I pull on a white long sleeve with thumb holes as an under shirt, my oversized f/c crew neck sweater that fell perfectly mid thigh just how I liked, my faded black skinny jean that are a bit to long so the scrunch around my ankles a bit, a couple necklaces and then I slipped on my f/c and white converse to match. I hum to myself and grab my phone slipping it into my pocket, I turn and grab my mini book bag that I use as a purse and strut into the living room.

“It’s almost 4, so I should head out,” I stretch and hurriedly jog to the kitchen to look in the white fridge. I end up deciding on the tea I bought from the convenience store a couple days ago and head to the front door. I turn the silver lock and take a step outside before turning and sticking my head in my home “I love you, I’ll be home s-,” my eyes widen at my action. Out of instinct, I said goodbye to Bowser, like I usually did every morning.

I blush slightly embarrassed at myself, quickly looking at my feet I slowly shut the door and left on my way to my place of work.

I pant as I approach the building. I push open the glass doors to see my coworker slumped over on the register, he perks up a bit when he notices me and waves. “Hey, y/n! Finally I can leave!” He sighs happily, I walk behind the counter and pat his back a couple of times as I pass by with a smile. “Hello to you too, Casey,” I roll my eyes and walk through the employees only door behind the register, he follows.

“Sorry, I’m just super excited,” he explains with a grin, rubbing the back of his head. “It’s chill man,” I turn away from him and put my mini bag in my locker and grab the apron we have to wear when working. He stares at me blankly for a moment before clearing his throat. “Yeah, SUPER excited. That’s all.” I nod. He waits a moment before continuing. “Oh yeah Case?” He does an impression of me, terribly may I add. “What are you so excited about?” He finishes and straightens a bit looking at me with a tilted head.

I tie on my apron and side eye him with a sigh. “What are you so exited about,” I ask bluntly
“I’m glad you asked, babe~” he says as he leans on the locker next to me, a stupid smirk on his face. “I’ve got a date with a hottie named destiny,” he puts his hand out dramatically. I stare at him unamused. “Ugh,” he sighs “I’ve got a BIG game tonight!” He chirps with a grins.

“Fun, good for you,” I nod with a small smile. “When?” He thinks for a second. “Well I have to be at the ring at 5,” he stretches and giggles to himself, obviously very giddy about his game. “You should get going, the ring is a bit far from here no?” I close my locker and turn to him. “Yeah your right I should kick rocks!” His smile almost immediately drops as he hurriedly rushes from the back into the main building. “See ya later!” He yells from the front before the bell on the front door rings followed by fading footsteps.

I huff and walk back to the front, plopping down on the small wooden stool behind the counter. I rest my head on my hand and look down at the cracked tiles under my feet. I smiled a little, enjoying the silence. I had the night shift and things got hectic usually after 6, especially on Friday. I sunk down in my seat a bit, taking in the calm before the exhausting storm to come.
