Work Text:
“Tom you don’t have to do this,” Marco said walking out onto the porch. His boyfriend sat there piecing together a porch swing from IKEA.
“But Marco I want to,” Tom said. He took a wooden plank and took a nail from the pile. “Plus this should be really easy.”
“Okay but if you want help, you know where to find me,” Marco said, walking back into the house.
They had lived together for about a year and got some of their first pieces of outdoor furniture. Marco had set up several furniture pieces for his parents and Star and knew how difficult it could be for a beginner but Tom had insisted he do it.
Marco walked back to his computer and went back to work. Hoping Tom would be fine.
“Marco, can you read Swedish?” Tom called from outside. Marco walked back outside. Tom was sitting on the porch, his normal pink skin red with sunburn and frustration.
“Did you use google translate?” Marco asked, pulling out his phone.
“Yes Marco I used google translate,” Tom snapped. Marco turned around at his words and walked back into the house.
It was always best to leave the situation when Tom started getting snippy.
“I’m sorry,” Tom called. Marco turned around again and walked back outside. “I’m just frustrated.”
Marco smiled and sat down next to him. There had been no progress made on the porch swing.
“Are you sure you don’t want my help?” Marco asked one final time.
“No Marco,” Tom said, looking over at him. “I want to show you I can adapt to your Earth ways like you do with my Mewni ones.”
Marco placed a hand on Tom’s hand. “I don’t expect you to change yourself so you can live on Earth, I like you just the way you are.”
Tom drew in closer. “Stop being such an amazing boyfriend and let me do this one thing.”
Marco kissed his nose. “Okay but when you’re done being stubborn I’ll be really to help you.”
“I won’t need it.”
As the day turned into evening, the weather grew colder. It was Mid-October and Marco was sure that Tom was going to catch a cold.
He glanced out of the window. Tom was sitting in a sleeveless shirt and jeans still trying to put the first piece together.
Marco walked to their shared bedroom and pulled out one of his hoodies. He then walked back outside and pulled it over Tom’s head.
“Wha-” Tom said looking around. “Marco what are you doing?”
“I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to get cold,” Marco said, with a smile.
“I don’t get cold, I'm half demon.”
Marco rolled his eyes, “and that’s why you were shivering.”
“I was having a violent reaction towards the porch swing that’s all.”
“Really,” Marco said, furrowing his eyes. “And why did you stop when I put the hoodie on you?”
“It just smells like you, that's all,” Tom said, blushing.
Marco smiled and leaned in. Tom broke the distance and kissed him. It was short and sweet and Marco took his moment to break away and start working on the porch swing.
“What? That’s not fair you can’t use my affection for you against me.” Tom said as Marco set up the third step.
In a matter of minutes it was done. “You’re really making me look bad right now.”
Marco smiled. “I know what can make you look better. Help me pick it up and hang it.”
Tom obliged and they hung up the porch swing. They both sat down and started swinging on it.
After a few minutes Tom said, “I’m tired, can we go inside now?”
Marco smiled and replied, “yeah whatever you want.”
