Ice King sat on his balcony, staring out at the endless blue mountains that surrounded the Ice Kingdom. Yesterday had been weird, a beautiful woman with red hair appeared out of nowhere, asked him out on a date, and then disappeared.
She seemed frustrated during it, but regardless he still had a good time. Then they looked at pretty pink birds for what felt like forever until she said goodbye and left.
It was one of the strangest things that had ever happened to him, and he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it all day.
The sun was starting to set and he sighed and rested his hands on his face when he heard a strange sound above him.
Ice King looked up in surprise as the weird lady appeared right in front of him. Her hair was messy and tangled, and her eyes were wild.
“Hey!” he gasped. “You’re back!” He couldn’t help but grin up at her, his heart fluttering at the fact she came to see him again.
“Yes,” she said. She reached down and held out her hand. “Come on, I have something to show you.”
He looked up at her, then at her hand.
“Come on Sim- Ice King.” she gave him a soft smile. “You’ll like it. I promise.”
“mmmm…” Ice King squinted his eyes. He carefully took her hand, and then immediately looked back at her. He waited for her to pull her hand away, sneer in disgust, say something insulting, anything, but she didn’t. She just smiled.
Well, that was weird.
She pulled him up with unexpected strength, making him gasp in surprise.
“I’m gonna carry you.”
“A-whuh?!” Ice King blushed and looked at her. “Listen, lady, I’m jacked, I doubt you can-“
“Do I have your permission?” Her eyes grew wide.
“Well, yes,”
With ease, she scooped him up in her arms.
“Oh-” He whispered.
It felt comfortable in her arms. His head leaned against her chest, her sweater pressing against his cold skin. “Oh, I like this.”
“Hehe.” she looked down at him, her eyes shining. “I told you. Now let’s go.”
“Okay!” he said with enthusiasm, wrapping his arms around her. Again, he waited for her to push him away but she didn’t.
She walked over to the window of the ice castle and jumped out, her cardigan becoming wings as she flapped through the sky. Ice King had flown this way probably thousands of times, but being carried instead wasn’t so bad. Especially by a pretty and strong lady.
Ice King looked up at her face. She seemed hyper-focused on looking where to go. Her teeth were chattering.
“Are you cold?” Ice King asked.
“It’s fine.” The lady said, her pretty red hair blowing in the breeze. She was so up close that the Ice King could see all of her freckles.
“Are you sure? You look pretty cold.”
“Simon, I'm fine. We’re almost there. Hold on.” She didn’t seem like she was paying attention to what he was saying. He’d have to figure that out later.
Ice King looked down to see they were nearing the ocean. Wow, she was fast. They’d gotten there just in time for the sunset.
The pretty lady steered towards one of the smaller mountains that overlooked the crashing waves. The sun was setting along the water making it sparkle orange.
“Here we are.” She said, and landed, then put him down feet first on the ground.
She then went over to a log that looked like it had been intentionally placed there and sat down. She patted next to her, telling him to sit down too.
He obeyed, sitting down next to her, folding his hands, and placing them in his lap.
She said nothing for a while, just gazing at the water. Ice King whistled awkwardly to himself.
Then, out of nowhere, the pretty lady leaned on his shoulder. He inhaled sharply, looking down at her without moving his head, eyes straining to look.
She gazed back up at him, a small smile creeping across her face.
“Wh-what are you doing?” Ice King stammered.
“Hugging you.” She sighed and wrapped her arms around him tight. Ice King hadn’t hugged anyone in a long time, but he did his best to reciprocate.
“Mmmm.” The pretty lady grumbled, sinking her face into his beard. This was weird. This never happened. Ladies never touched him.
“Weird lady…” he began. “Why are you doing this…”
She frowned then pulled away, wrapping her arms around herself.
“Oh no, did I-“
“No it’s okay.” she insisted. “You don’t remember my name again?”
“uhhhhhh….” Ice King thought long and hard. “It starts with an H right?”
She stiffened and looked at him, the sun reflecting in her green eyes. “No!” She shouted and stood up. She looked angry, then sad, then ashamed. “Sorry. No, my name is Betty. Do you think you can remember that?”
“Well, I’ll try. Betty, Betty, Betty.” He smiled. “Betty, Betty.
She gave a small smile back at him. “And… your name used to be Simon. Do you remember that?”
“What-mon?” He said.
“Eugh!” She yelled and grabbed at her hair in frustration. “Is there anything left in there? Anything? How can you remember that Finn kid’s name, and the pink girl's but not your own name!” she turned around. “How can you not remember mine?”
“I’m sorry.” Ice King said.
“No…” Betty sighed and turned back around. She leaned down and took his hands in hers, causing him to blush again. “That’s not why I took you here. I know you might not remember everything but, you used to like it when I picked you up. And I think you still do, right.”
“Mmmm yes.” Ice King said.
“O-okay and you still like sunsets.” She pointed at the sunset in front of them.
“Yeah.” He said, kicking his feet in the snow.
“Okay,” she smiled a little and sat down next to him. “And do you still like writing.”
“Oh yes!” he gasped. “I love writing. I have a fanfiction!”
“A- “ Betty started. “That's good!”
He gasped again. “I should add you to it! Ice Queen and your character would really hit it off!” he raised his eyebrows suggestively.
She laughed and hugged him again. “I missed you so much.”
“Wha?”
“I missed you, Simon. I missed you.”
“Missed what?”
“You.” She buried her face in his beard again, sniffing deeply. “I don’t care anymore, I don’t care about fixing the crown, I just can’t be apart from you anymore. I can’t take it. I can’t stand to be away from you.”
He said nothing, just blushed deeply, his cheeks turning a shade of purple. Why was this lady pouring her heart out to him when he didn’t know her at all? or did he? There was that date from yesterday… but before… was there something?
She seemed familiar in a way. But she was so new. It didn’t make sense.
“I-I think…” Ice King stammered. “I think I missed you too.”
Betty shot up and grabbed his shoulders. She opened her eyes wide. “You did?”
“I… think so.” He awkwardly wrapped his hands around her waist. “I… maybe you were in a dream? Maybe…”
“Yes, keep going-“ Betty put her hands up to his cheeks.
“I… I’m trying I just…” Ice King squeezed his eyes shut. He had to remember. Where was she? Was she a princess he kidnapped? Maybe, but she wasn’t a princess now. Well, she could be a princess. She was so beautiful, she’d make the finest princess. “I… I don’t think… I don’t remember you…”
Betty’s smile faded. She looked like she was about to cry.
“But I want to get to know you again.”
Betty stared at him. This was the most forward and coherent sentence he’d said so far. His eyes looked into hers with such intensity, and she saw him. She saw him in there. He didn’t remember anything he probably never would, but he was still there. He was still Simon, a completely different Simon, but still him just the same.
Betty's heart leaped with desire, and she jumped up and pulled herself into his lap. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
His eyes widened, his cheeks flushed. “Okay!”
She wrapped her arms around his head and pulled him into a deep kiss, closing her eyes. They both hummed softly, sinking into each other with pure warmth and love. He leaned back, taking her into his embrace. He hadn’t kissed a lady in, ever, as long as he could remember. But this felt so right. It felt so good.
Betty pulled back for a second, looking into his eyes, and then went back to kissing him, harder than before, with so much intensity Ice King could feel her heart beating through her chest.
“Betty!” He gasped, realizing he was about to fall off the log.
“Oh!” Betty pulled away and stopped leaning on him as he regained his balance. She pushed up her glasses which had become crooked in all the commotion. Her cheeks were flushed bright red, almost matching her hair. Her magic yellow head was lopsided, but she didn’t bother fixing it, so Ice King reached up and fixed it for her.
“Oh, I need you.” She looked deeply at him.
He couldn't help but grin so wide, his fangs poked over his lips. “Really?”
“I’m serious.” She cupped his face in her hands. “I need you, Ice King. I want to be with you. I want to fall in love all over again.”
He giggled, “I don’t think I’ll have trouble with that.”
She pressed her forehead against his. “I don’t think I will either.”
