Work Text:
“Why do you always have to look this damned good?" Lin said. The words left her lips before she could think them through, but it was worth the mild embarrassment when she realised she had somehow made Kya blush.
“I could ask you the same thing, Beifong,” answered an already tipsy waterbender.
Varrick’s wedding reception was in full swing, and Lin could feel the music’s vibrations even from their relatively distant spot on the railings looking over at the city.
Lin watched Kya look back at the ridiculously crowded dance floor and grin mischievously. "Well, if you can't beat them, join them. Let me take you dancing," Kya suggested, extending her hand towards Lin.
Lin hesitated for a moment, her stoic demeanour warring with the desire to let loose for once. After a brief internal struggle, she finally relented and took Kya's hand. They navigated through the lively crowd, finding a spot where the music was pulsating the strongest.
The onlookers were treated to a rare sight: Lin Beifong, known for her no-nonsense attitude, letting go, and enjoying the moment. Kya revelled in the opportunity to bring out this side of her.
In the midst of the dance, Lin couldn't resist teasing.
"You know, you might be onto something. Maybe looking good is just a side effect of being around you."
Kya chuckled, her blue eyes sparkling.
"Well, I can't argue with that logic, Chief Beifong."
