Summary
Alhaitham came into the world a loudly wailing baby, with his heart sitting silently in his chest, quiet and unbeating and useless though his lungs breathed life into him. He grew up alone with whispers of the cursed boy whose heart did not beat, whose face did not flush, whose hands stayed cold.
Kaveh came into the world with a quiet gasp and a soft cry, with a heart that did not beat staying still in his chest. He would grow under his parents' careful guidance and followed their example as they smiled and kept his still heart a secret from the whole world.
But when they first met and shook hands, their hearts beat.
