Work Text:
Among the many things that Rue used the drugs to help ignore was horrible acid reflux.
When she was younger, she'd tried various antiacids and, while they all worked well enough, they never fully remedied the issue and she always forgot to take them so she eventually just stopped altogether.
Now that she was sober, though, it was pretty hard to ignore.
When Jules came home, she was immediately met with the sound of soft retching and spitting coming from the bathroom. She sighed. She knew about Rue's reflux, but it was rarely bad enough to where she had to go to a toilet since it typically stayed contained within her throat.
Jules gently opened the door and sat next to her girlfriend on the ground, pulling her hair back slightly. When Rue noticed her, she nearly started crying.
"Shit, sorry" Rue said after spitting a particularly rough batch of acid into the toilet bowl. Her voice came out rough and gravelly because speaking any higher would hurt her corroded throat too much. "I didn't mean for you to come home to this"
"It's okay" Jules reassured her. Rue seemed to relax a bit at that. "Rough day?"
"Yeah" Rue replied, coughing slightly and wincing as a bit more bile rose up her throat and promptly into the toilet below. "I don't know why it's so bad today. I didn't eat or drink or do anything that should've made it worse"
"I'm sorry you're feeling this way, love" Jules replied. "Do you want me to go get you some water?"
"That would be great"
"Okay" Jules kissed her girlfriend on the cheek then left to the kitchen. She got a glass of cold water and returned soon after. Rue immediately began to drink it and felt slight relief as the cool liquid slid down her battered throat. Unfortunately, once she was done, a bit of it did come back up, but it was worth it.
"Thank you, Jules"
"No need to thank me" Jules replied with a weak smile. "How about I get you a bowl and we sit on the couch to maybe try watching something?" she suggested. "That seems a bit more comfortable than the bathroom floor"
"Yes, please"
"Alright, I got you"
