Work Text:
Rusty is rearranging a few of his knickknacks in his shed when someone comes up behind him and covers his eyes, blocking out his vision. He places the small cat sculpture down on the shelf tentatively, as to not drop it and shatter it.
"Guess who?" A familiar voice giggles, and he can feel himself smiling already.
"Do I have to guess?" He asks, tempted to just turn around and hug her already, but he stays still.
She hums thoughtfully, not moving her hands. "Yes. It's very important that you guess."
"Uhhhh," He starts, acting as if he is running through a list of trains it could be in his head. He makes his first guess close, but not correct. "Dinah?"
She huffs. "No."
"Carrie?"
"No!"
"Ashley?"
"Rusty!" She whines, and he tries to keep himself from laughing.
"Hmm. I've got it!" Rusty exclaims, unable to keep himself from grinning. "Greaseball!"
Pearl gasps, pulling her hands back. He turns around to look at her. She has her arms crossed as she pouts.
"Pearl!" He says, acting surprised that it's actually her.
"Greaseball?" She stares at him pointedly, with a teasing grin on her face. "Okay, why and how would Greaseball be in your shed?"
"He could probably just break in if he wanted to," She shrugs, "He has his ways. Caboose too."
"What does CB have to do with any of this?"
"What doesn't he have to do with this?"
"What does that even mean?" She shoots back, her hair swishing behind her.
Rusty suddenly starts laughing and Pearl joins in soon after. It's over almost nothing, but they're happy and together.
"Wait!" Pearl gasps through her laughter, "I have to show you something!" She grabs his hands and pulls him towards the door, rolling backwards on her wheels.
"What?-" Rusty asks, but he lets her pull him out.
"C'mon!" She laughs, and he simply follows along.
