a companion to rest with

Summary:

biograft encounters an interesting creature... one with a shiny black shell and a pair of pincers.

Notes:

last month, i saw someone complaining about the lack of biograft centric fics. so here i am with (another?) one! i made sure to do a bunch of research just so i could accurately present the insect :3c it's pretty short, but i think it's neat. hope you guys enjoy! :D

Work Text:

in a vast forest, a streak of orange rushes past, striking every single branch that comes in its way. the thuds it makes as it hits the ground shakes the wildlife with its hurried form. soon though, it would come to a stop as the smoke from its interior forces itself out. the familiar gray wisps from the overheating core would swirl into the mass of leaves from the towering trees above.

the biograft quivers in their place, attempting to cool down their scorching metal. they see a nearby rock, but not before noticing what’s perched on top of it. glaring eyes lock on the still creature. their sensors try to make sense of the dark but shiny shell with legs. the robot moves closer to it with great caution. what could it possibly be?

“WHAT AR—”

the insect twitches, making the biograft jump into a defensive stance. arms up, gear at the ready, they stare down at the little beetle until they finally deem it as harmless. they crouch down at eye level with the critter and observe it. perhaps this biograft was feeling a little curious. mission? what mission? they were overheating anyways. they might as well take a little break.

“HELLO.” the biograft mutters, and the beetle turns around, as if noticing the machine’s presence. now that the biograft had the front view of the insect, they were now able to see and have a good look at the pincers it sported.

the antler-like jaws amused the robot — it reminded them of the energy swords they would use in battle. the biograft wondered how the creature smaller than them would use their distinct pincers when in fights.

the stag beetle crawled down the rock, and the biograft took it in their now cooled hand. the insect sat there for a while, occasionally adjusting its place in their fingers, crawling down once more but now unto their palm. the biograft couldn’t help but be mesmerized at what they held. for a supposed killing machine, they sure can be quite the curious robot sometimes.

after examining the beetle to their core’s content, they slowly put it back down unto the rock below. “FAREWELL.” the biograft huffed, if it was even possible, and watched as their energy sword pulse with light. they looked back at the pincers of the beetle one more time. it gave them a sense of strength somehow. the biograft would then go on to bolt through the forest once more and towards the mission they would soon accomplish.
