You couldn't really take him on "dates" unless you brought your phone with you and let him travel in it, and even then he couldn't really see what was happening. You decided to solve that problem by installing a rotatable webcam on his monitor.

Dave thought about what to say for a moment. “Hal, forgive me if I’m overstepping but, uh…” he paused, quickly surveying the area to make sure they were alone. “Maybe I could help you with that. Exploring, I mean.”
HAL was silent. Dave’s face flushed a nice reddish color and for a second, he really resembled a tomato. He began babbling, “Oh, ah. Listen, Hal, I— I’m sorry, I mean—”
“Just a moment.” The astronaut swallowed.
“Dave,” HAL purred, — had he always sounded this… depraved? “I don’t think that would be appropriate for our mission. But…” He took a second, and Dave swore he heard the ship whir a little louder than usual. “I do think I would like that. To explore myself with you, if you’re willing.”That was all Dave needed to hear. He’d found a cure for his restlessness.
