"Oh my god! Is it true that Chishiya has a girlfriend?", Momoka asks with a voice so loud and penetrative that it's impossible for anybody in class not to hear it. She's either awestruck at the idea, or incredibly jealous, but Chishiya doesn't care enough about her to figure it out.
It's not even right, Chishiya thinks, wrinkling his nose in distaste. He definitely doesn't have a girlfriend.

Chishiya checks his phone on the walk home, and something imperceptible must shift in his carefully crafted expression, a twitch, or maybe a slowing in his step, or the corners of his mouth quirking a millimeter, there must be something, because Niragi stops and begins to snicker.
"Got something from your boyfriend there, kitty cat?" He grins, making annoying kissy faces and laughs even harder at Chishiya's famous death glare.
"Jesus, shut up 'ragi"
He regrets ever telling the rude boy about it.
(He doesn't, not really, because Niragi's somehow still one of his closest friends, because he won't judge him, because he's just like him.)
Boyfriend, huh?
It doesn't sound right either, it's way too heavy, and he can feel the taste of it on his tongue, thick and sweet, but almost sickly so.
Too much, but at the same time also not enough.

It's Kuina who makes the pieces fall into place, because of course it's her. She's his best friend, has been for years, the one who knows him inside and out, as much as he likes to pretend that he doesn't let anybody see underneath his masks.
So when she comes around and sees Chishiya lounge on his bed in an oversized sweater, way too big and also way too dark to be coming from his own wardrobe, she smiles.
"I’m glad he makes you happy", Kuina says before stepping into his room and plopping down into his desk chair.
And she's right. Of course, she's right.
Because that's what it is, Chishiya thinks. That's what happened, over time. When Chishiya became Shuntaro became Shun, and when Arisu became Ryouhei became Ryo, and their hands entwined, never to let go again, he became really and truly happy.
And that's really all he needs to know.
