Work Text:

The smell of fresh pastries filled the air and the sound of a skateboard, filling Honami’s mind. Her families bakery was very popular in the small town.

One particular customer, Toya, came in everyday. It was always rumoured by many of the townsfolk that he only went to the bakery to see Honami. Of course, neither of them caught wind of this rumour, since teenagers will always be oblivious.

As every other morning, Toya walked into the bakery, his skateboard in hand, and walked to the front counter. “Hey there, Honami!” He smiled as he looked at the items in the display case for what seemed like the millionth time that week. “I would like a…. Hmm…. Surprise me!” He leaned on the counter.

Honami chuckled. “Sure thing, Toya. You’re in luck, too. Some pastries just came out of the oven.” Her gentle smile made the butterflies in

Toya’s stomach go even faster. W-wait… butterflies? In his stomach? No… that can’t be. He’s just excited… to eat a pastry! Yes! That’s it!

When Honami walked out with some packaged pastries, she decided that he could have them for free since he’s such a loyal customer. That definitely did not help the butterflies.

Toya bottled it up and put his skateboard on the ground and smirked. He gave her a small wave before skating down the hill that the bakery stood on.

The next day, Honami waited all day for Toya to show up. She’d never admit it, but he’s the light in her day, it was almost unbearable without him.

As soon as she realized, she knew she was in love. She sighed and smiled at the mirror as she thought about him.

Roughly a week passed before Toya returned back to the bakery. It was late at night, right before closing time.

“Oh… Toya. Hi.” Honami turned away from his gaze. There weren’t any other customers in the store.

“Sorry I didn’t come around.” The skateboarder nervously chuckled. He instinctively looked at the display case. “I’ve been meaning to talk to you…”

Honami looked back up at him. “Y-yes? What is it..?” Both of their hearts were racing, the pair, evidently, flustered.

“Ever since I’ve met you..” Toya took a deep breath. “I’ve been in love with you. And- I’ve always known it but I’ve been denying it.”

Honami’s eyes widened. “So you’re saying that-“ She smiled as he finished her sentence.

“Yes, Honami. I love you.” Toya held her hands in his. “Wow, that felt good to say.” He chuckled.

“Well, I love you too, Toya.” Honami smiled.
