Chapter 1: Stan and Craig

Chapter Text

7 DAYS UNTIL PROM - Friday

"Hey, Tucker. Why'd you ask me to meet you in the back of the school?" Stan Marsh leaned up against a wall, staring at his friend.

Craig Tucker handed him a joint and raised an eyebrow. "Want it?" Stan hardly hesitated when he took the joint, bringing it up to his lips. Craig used his lighter to light it, before lighting his own.

"Thanks."

"No problem." Craig exhaled a small cloud of smoke. "Isn't it relaxing?"

Stan nodded. The two stood there in the back of the school, smoking weed, silent. Then, just as Stan was about to speak up, Craig beat him to it. "I bet you're wondering why I really asked you to come back here, huh?"

"Uh, yeah?" Stan looked over at Craig, who was staring off into the distance.

"We're friends, right? I mean, we've hung out with each other a lot more these past few months than ever before."

"Yeah, cause you're a lot more tolerable now than in elementary and middle school," Stan joked. Craig turned his head to face Stan, his serious eyes meeting Stan's warm, playful ones. "Continue."

Craig sighed, a small puff of smoke leaving his mouth as he did so. "Tweek and I broke up. We realized we were better off as friends." Short silence.

"Oh, damn. I knew you guys were on-and-off for a while so I guess it was bound to happen eventually. No offense."

"Uh, none taken." Craig looked away from Stan for a moment. "So...the reason I wanted to see you back here is because I have a question for you. Don't feel pressured to say 'yes'." Stan took a step closer to Craig, a curious expression on his face.

"Yeah..?"

"Stan Marsh...will you be my date to prom?" Craig's head snapped up, and the two boys made eye contact. Stan noticed Craig was blushing slightly, and that his own cheeks were feeling a bit warm.

"Oh, uh...Craig..."

"I don't know if you even swing that way, but I do know that you aren't dating Wendy anymore, and I know, like, 4 people who think you're bi, so...I figured I'd go for it."

Stan was surprised, to say the least, at Craig's confession. As for the bi thing, he never really thought about giving his sexuality a label...but he did like girls and guys. And he did like Craig.

"Craig, I'd...I'd, um, love to be your date to prom. That is, if you're not pranking me or anything, heh." Stan inched closer, dropping his joint to the ground and stepping on it as he turned his whole body toward Craig.

Craig's face turned a shade redder. After a while, he looked away. "You look stupid right now. Why are you grinning like that?"

Stan didn't realize he was grinning, but he couldn't be bothered to care. "I don't know. I guess I'm just a happy fucking idiot."

Craig put a hand on Stan's cheek, moving his face closer. "You are a happy fucking idiot, huh?" He smiled slightly, and Stan smiled back.

Then, the two finally kissed. Stan wrapped his arms around Craig's neck while Craig gently held onto Stan's face with his hands. After a few seconds, the two pulled away. They stared into each other's eyes, silent.

"I've never kissed a guy before."

"I figured as much."

Silence again.

"So, uh, does this mean we're dating?"

"You're so fucking r*tarded, Marsh."

"Well you're a f*ggot."

"You literally just kissed me."

"Okay but I'm bi so I'm only half a f*g."

Craig snickered. Just then, the bell rang.

Stan scoffed. Then, he grinned at Craig. "I would offer to skip school with you, but if I skip another day this month then I'm gonna get a detention and my parents will get pissed and all that shit, ya know?"

"Yeah, yeah, I get it." Craig ruffled Stan's hair. "Hey, what happened to that beanie you used to wear all the time?"

"I have no idea. I should look for it after school. It's probably hidden in the depths of my closet somewhere." Stan walked over to the door that led back into the school. Before going back inside, he looked over his shoulder at Craig. "See ya later, Tucker."

"See ya."

Stan opened the door, but just as he stepped inside, he turned back again. "And we are dating, right?"

Craig laughed. "Get to your class, you dumb fuck."

Stan chuckled. "I'll take that as a 'yes', asshole!" The last thing he saw before closing the door was Craig smiling, slightly blushing, and flipping him off.
