Jensen unlocks the door of their house and Harley runs past them, clearly excited to be back home. He had been staying with uncles Justin and Chad for the past few days as Jared and Jensen were in Texas for AJ’s third birthday. Jared steps inside right after their dog, and lets out a deep breath.

It’s so good to be back home. Jared loves visiting his family, especially their little nephew whom he adores and misses so damn much, but being back in his safe space is very recomforting. It took a while for Jared to be able to call this house their home, though. But it’s what it has been for the past year.

After Lego relocated to Boston, Jared and Jensen were finally able to return to their city permanently, which brought much happiness for both of them - and also for Chad and Justin for having their friends close again. They were finally back at their beloved apartment, and carried on with their happy life there. Eventually though, the idea of getting a dog started creeping into their minds. Jared has always loved dogs and Jensen could see how well Jared got along with them. His therapist, Dr. Smith, once suggested that it would be good for Jared to have a dog as well, as a comfort animal.

Jared and Jensen talked about it a few times, and ended up deciding that it would indeed be a good idea to adopt a dog. But what wouldn’t be a good idea was having a big dog in an apartment. Because yes, they would want a big dog. And even though their apartment was spacious, it still would be too small and confining for a dog the size they wanted.

That’s when the talks about moving to a house started. When they ran this idea by Chad and Justin, their friends were immediately on board with it, eagerly suggesting they get a house close to theirs since they live in a nice neighborhood. Jared was torn, thinking the idea of a house with a big dog was cool, but he also wasn’t sure if he was ready to leave their apartment. He considered the apartment as their home, as the place they started connecting, where so much happened. Jensen and he had many conversations, Jensen trying to show Jared that yes, even though the apartment meant a lot to him as well, at the end of the day it was just an apartment. They were the ones who made it a home, and they could create new memories elsewhere.

Jared let Jensen get a real estate agent to try and find a good house for them, and both agreed that they would only move if they both fell in love with the house. They visited a few places but nothing quite captured their hearts, until they visited a two story house in a cul-de-sac, two streets down from where Justin and Chad live. Jared was finally able to feel something as he entered the house. It had four bedrooms, two ensuites and another full bathroom, an open space downstairs with the living room, kitchen and dining room just as they liked it, and a nice backyard where their dog could run freely, with trees and a deck, a place to welcome their friends and family and have barbecues. The house was everything they were looking for, and after visiting it a few more times, talking about it and asking the opinion of their family and close friends, they decided to put in an offer.

It was accepted and Jared was excited and also terrified that the moving was really happening. When they sold their apartment, not too long afterwards Jared had a crisis and Jensen had to step in and help him through it, since it was sinking in that they were leaving their beloved first home. They were able to move their things slowly so they could start getting used to the idea. Jared and Jensen both turned one of the rooms into their new Lego room together and brought the sets, which helped Jared feel increasingly at home with the place.

The day when they left the apartment for good wasn’t easy either, Jared had another crisis when it sunk in that they would never go back there, and again Jensen was there to help him through it. The last thing they took from the apartment was the Lego footprint Jared made of it and gave to Jensen as a Christmas present, a symbolic gesture to celebrate their new beginning. They placed the footprint over the mantle in their new house, as a way to honor the first place they lived together, and Jensen also suggested Jared worked on a new Lego footprint of their house, which Jared happily did and helped him feel more comfortable with their new space.

Their families flew to Boston to visit their new house, and together with their close friends they had a nice housewarming party to celebrate this new chapter in their lives. It took Jared some time, but he finally started getting used to the new routine and got comfortable in the house, slowly seeing it as their home. Jensen was right, it doesn’t matter where they are, as long as they’re together, it’s home.

About a month after moving in, both of them visited a dog shelter so they could try and find a dog they both liked. It was love at first sight when they saw the caramel giant in the last cage, and he pretty much jumped on Jared as soon as they opened the gate. Jensen knew right away that would be their dog.

They brought Harley home not too long after, and getting a dog for Jared really was the best idea. Jensen could see how comfortable and happy his husband was with the dog, how well they got along. It was like Harley could feel that his human was slightly different, and did everything he could to protect and make Jared happy.

All in all, things are looking perfect. They have their friends, their families, a nice house, nice jobs, a nice dog, everything they could ever want. Jared even got promoted at Lego since he's such a great employee, he is now responsible for his own team there and has an important position. Jensen always praises Jared saying he's so smart and how proud he is of him.

After taking long showers to wind down from the trip, both go to the kitchen to make some sandwiches. Jared feeds Harley some doggy biscuits as he walks around them, and then washes his hands since Jared really doesn’t like dog drool as they eat. Once the sandwiches are ready and Jensen grabs Cokes for them, they sit at the kitchen island to eat. They of course eat in silence which has long ago become a habit for them, since Jared prefers it that way, but Jensen watches his husband as they eat. Once they’re finished, Jensen clears his throat.

“Love, are you okay…? You seem kind of odd.”

Jared frowns. “Well, I am okay. There’s no reason why I wouldn’t be okay. It’s just…”

He trails off and looks down, and Jensen reaches over the island and takes his hand. “Just what?”

Jared bites his bottom lip. “I just always feel sad whenever we visit AJ or Julia, and then we have to leave. I like being around them. I like having children around, especially them since they’re our nephew and niece, and it’s sad when we say goodbye and they’re not around anymore.”

Jensen squeezes Jared’s hand. “We should have our own… kid, then.” He says it completely out of the blue, not really knowing what possessed him to do so, they never talked about having their own kids for real. Jensen is mostly kidding, he has joked about that in the past, but deep down…

Jared’s head snaps up and he gives Jensen a shocked look. “What? Do you mean that? Or is this one of those things you people say but don’t mean?”

Jensen considers it for a few moments and then shrugs, looking pointedly at Jared. “I don’t know. Maybe…. I know we never talked about kids for real, but just… maybe. How do you feel about this idea?”

Jared frowns deeper. “But… how could we have kids? Neither of us can get pregnant.”

Jensen chuckles. “Thank God you’re a man, you look much… better as a man. But there are many options… for couples who can’t have their own… kid. We could adopt a child, either one that already exists or a woman… wishing to give their baby for adoption… or we can get a surrogate… to have the baby for us.”

Jared still looks confused. “A surrogate? Meaning what? A woman would get pregnant and we would get the baby once it’s born?”

“She would just carry the baby… it wouldn’t be biologically hers. One of us could donate… the sperm, then get the eggs of another… woman who donates as well…, then they combine those and implant them into a surrogate… who just carries the baby. It’s a difficult process, but… it would be a way to do it. And even have one of our… DNA in the baby.”

Jared stays silent for a long moment, and Jensen frowns at him. “Love, what are you thinking…? Don’t you like the idea of us having… a child? It’s okay if you don’t. We’re just talking about… it for the first time, it doesn’t have to be something… too serious. If you don’t want it, I’m good with it. We would only talk about… it further if it’s something we both… want.”

Jared cocks his head as he stares at Jensen. “Would you like to have a child?”

Jensen bites the inside of his cheek as he thinks about it. “Yeah, I mean… it would be nice. I’d like to raise a child together… with you. To see our family grow… even more. But I’m also good with just the two of us and Harley… so no pressure at all.”

Jared stays silent for another moment and then blurts out. “Do you think I’d be good father material?”

Jensen is the one who frowns this time. “What do you mean?”

Jared shrugs and looks down at their joined hands. “I dunno. I’m not sure I could be a decent father to a child.”

Jensen leans forward and squeezes Jared’s hand. “What are you talking about… J-Rod? You’re awesome with children, even more… than with adults. Our nephews love you so much… of course you would be good father… material.”

“Well, but that’s different. Those children aren’t ours. We’re not responsible for raising them, we just spend some time with them and then give them back to their parents. I’m not normal Jen, you know that. I’m afraid I’d screw everything up if I had to raise another human.”

Jensen’s heart tightens at hearing that. He scoots closer to Jared at the island and frames his face with a hand. “I don’t want to hear you talking… about yourself like this. Both of us are different, but that doesn’t mean… anything bad. I think you would be an excellent… father. You would be able to raise a child… in the best way possible. Both of us would. We can’t sell ourselves… short. You would never screw… things up. You would be the most loving and supportive father I can think… of. With more than enough responsibility… and knowledge on how to take care of a child.”

Jared blinks a few times as he looks at Jensen. “Really? You mean that for real?”

Jensen nods and kisses Jared’s cheek. “You should know by now that I don’t lie… to you. I stand by every word… I just said. But that’s something that needs a lot of… discussion. We don’t need to rush anything, there’s time to talk… and think and see if it’s something we both want… and then we can see where we go and how… we do it, okay? Now, want to watch some… Star Wars?”

Jared lights up and nods, hopping off the high stool. “Episode VI okay? Harley, come!”

A couple of months later

Jared and Jensen drive back home from Boston Logan, Megan and Mackenzie blabbering in the back seat. They just picked up their sisters from the airport so they can spend a few days in town, and both Jared and Jensen are happy to have them over. Mack and Megan have become good friends once they met in person, and sometimes they manage to get a few days off to fly to Boston together and have some quality time with their brothers. They’re always great company when they come.

They decide to make a detour and stop at a restaurant for dinner before going home, and spend some time chatting and catching up. Then they finally make it home, and both girls have to spend some time greeting Harley who is of course over the moon at having guests. Jared and Jensen get their sisters settled in the guest rooms, and after they’ve freshened up all of them gather at the living room to talk some more. Jensen grabs some beers for them and everyone gets comfortable on the couches with Harley of course demanding attention from them.

Eventually Megan, who has been sitting next to the end table, spots something on it and picks up a folder.

“What is that?”

Jared checks to see what she’s looking at, and realizes they forgot to put away the folders they had been looking at. He shrugs.

“It’s some material that Justin and Chad gave to us so we can do some research.”

Megan lifts an eyebrow and shows the folder to Mack to clue her in, then turns back to stare at Jared and Jensen. “You’re thinking about adopting a kid?”

Jared purses his lip, suddenly not knowing if they should be talking about it or not since they haven’t shared their plans to anyone yet. Well, except Chad and Justin since they needed some legal advice on the best course to take, and their friends gave them a bunch of pamphlets and information so they could learn more about the different processes. He looks at Jensen feeling apprehensive, but Jensen squeezes his thigh and gives him a reassuring smile. Then Jensen turns to their sisters.

“Yeah, it’s something J-Rod and I have been… thinking about. We would like to have a child of our own… and have been researching what would be the best… way to do it. We thought about getting a surrogate to carry… the baby for us. So at least one of us could donate… the sperm and have a child with one of our DNAs. Or even mixing both sperms and see what… happens. Maybe even two babies, each one biologically related to one of us, that would be cool. We just would need to find someone… willing to carry the baby, or babies for us. We will have our lawyers take care… of the matter for us, we need permission from the court… especially if we pay someone to carry the baby. And of course, we will also need… to get donated eggs since the surrogate… won’t use her own eggs. J-Rod and I have been talking a lot about… this and have decided it’s something we… truly want. We would love to become… parents.”

Both sisters smile fondly at them. “That’s awesome bro,” Mack says. “I truly hope everything goes well for you guys and you can welcome a little one into the family. I’d love to have another nephew or niece and spoil them rotten. It’s a shame that the baby can’t have both your DNA, though. You guys would make a gorgeous baby!”

They all laugh and Jared notices how Megan’s expression changes for a split of a second, but since he has trouble reading people that aren’t Jensen, he can't understand what happens to her face. He lets it slide and the conversation drifts to other topics before they call it a night.

They spend the next day doing touristy stuff with their sisters as they like to do, they have lunch at Quincy Market and go for a walk at Boston Common. Then they return home and have a lazy afternoon before starting dinner preparations. They make homemade pizza since it’s something Jared loves to do, especially when their friends or family are over. Once they put the first pizzas in the oven, they all sit at the kitchen island to wait and have some wine. Megan and Mackenzie give them serious looks from across the island.

“Look guys… Mack and I had a talk and we would like to talk to you guys about something,” Megan says, and Jared realizes it’s something important.

“Okay, what is it?”

Mack clears his throat. “Well… we were thinking about what you guys said about having a baby via surrogate, and wishing it had your DNA… and we talked about how it would be cool if the baby, or babies had both of your DNA.”

Jensen lifts an eyebrow. “Well yeah, but that’s obviously… not possible.”

Megan cocks her head to the side. “Well… not exactly.”

Jensen frowns. “What do you mean?”

“We have the same DNA as you guys do bro. Or as close to it as it gets.” Mack says with a pointed look.

Jared leans forward, not understanding where this is going. “What do us having the same DNA as you have anything to do with us having babies? Am I missing something obvious? Please, you guys need to be much more clear, autistic dude here, remember?”

Megan licks her bottom lip and stares intently at both Jared and Jensen as she links her fingers in front of her.

“Look. We know it’s something strange. But Mack and I talked a lot about this. And if you wish to have two babies, like you said you do, we could be the egg donors. So the babies have both DNAs.”

Jared’s brain has trouble processing what they’re saying, and he frowns deeper. “What? You’re saying we should have a baby with my sperm and your DNA? But we’re siblings, isn’t that IVF incest or something?”

Megan smiles kindly at Jared and squeezes his forearm. “No, Jare. Not like that. What we mean is that we could cross our DNA that way. You guys could use my eggs and combine it with Jensen’s sperm. Then take Mack’s eggs and combine with your sperm. That way you could have two babies with both of your DNAs combined.”

Jared allows that information to sink in and looks at Jensen, who also seems stunned. Jared looks at the girls again. “But… wouldn’t this be completely weird? I mean, I’d have a child with Mack and Jensen would have a child with my sister. Would you guys carry the babies that would be your nephews? You would be the mother of your nephews? I would be a father and an uncle to the babies? I don’t get it, sorry.”

Mack chuckles. “Well, biologically yes, it would be a bit weird, we know. Basically the two of us would be the parents of a child, and Megan and Jensen too. But that bond would only go as far as biology goes. We want you guys to understand we would never feel like the mothers of the babies. We would only be giving our material, just like someone else would donate the eggs and also not be the mother. Of course we would love the babies dearly but only as aunties. Aunties with a very special bond, of course. And well, it would of course be much less weird if you guys get someone else to carry the babies, not us. Even two women to carry one baby each. You guys can think about it. We are just offering a solution for you guys. They would be pretty much twins, and both of them would be biologically related to the both of you. We thought it would be an interesting solution, but only if you guys feel comfortable with it of course. If you think it’s too weird it’s totally okay for us. Just an idea.”

Jared and Jensen promise to think about it, and then get the pizzas from the oven so they can eat.

Later as both of them lie on the bed, Jensen turns to Jared.

“So… what do you think about what our sisters… said? Do you think it would be a good… idea?”

Jared bites the inside of his cheek. “Well… I mean, it would be weird yeah. I would basically have a child with your sister and vice versa. That could be considered cheating on some level I think? But also, I really like the idea of having two babies and both of them having our combined DNA. It would be the only way to do it since we can’t have a baby that’s biologically related to the both of us in the traditional way. What do you think?”

Jensen places a strand of hair behind Jared’s ear. “I agree with you. In a way it’s weird but man… I keep imagining a kid that has both of our… features. We could have a child with my hair… color and your hazel eyes.”

“And your plush lips,” Jared adds as he wiggles his eyebrows. “Oh! And your freckles!”

Jensen chuckles. “A baby with dark blond… hair, hazel eyes, plush lips…, and freckles. I could be on board. Now that I think about it, it would be… awesome to have babies that have our shared… DNA. I could get past the weirdness of it. Plus, we would know… for sure the origin of the eggs, it would all be… in the family. And our sisters would love the babies… dearly.”

Jared smiles, starting to really like this weird idea that could somehow work perfectly for them. “Now we need to find someone willing to carry the babies for us. Or two people since it would be two babies.” He looks at Jensen with widened eyes. “You really want to have two babies? I know we mostly talked about only one.”

Jensen nods and gives Jared a kiss. “I’d love to have two… babies with you, very much.”

On the next day they talk to their sisters and let them know they’re open to the idea, it’s something they think could actually work. Both girls are happy to know they’re considering it, and now they need to sort out everything else to make it happen.

Later that same day they have a barbecue at their backyard with their sisters, Chad, Justin, Jeff, Hillarie, Tom, his wife, Jake and Felicia. Jared is still pretty close friends with his ex coworkers, they have all become a pretty tight group even after Jared left the Lego store. None of them work there anymore actually, Jake and Felicia now work with different things and Tom has also joined Lego corp which is pretty cool.

They have a great night with lots of good food, drinks, music, and most of all good company. At some point they all gather around the picnic table at the backyard and talk about lots of different things while drinking good beer. Eventually Jeff and Hilarie share with the group that they’re in the process of adopting a boy since they couldn’t have children, and everyone is very interested in it, their friends sharing details about the whole process, and they all wish them the best and ask for updates when they have it. Jared feels an urge to talk to their friends about their own plans, but he doesn’t know if he should yet. He looks at Jensen, who apparently knows exactly what Jared is thinking, and his husband squeezes his hand under the table.

“We can talk about it, J-Rod. They’re our friends… it’s okay,” he says in a small voice and Jared nods.

“Well, Jen and I… we are also considering having children of our own. Chad and Justin already know about it, and Megan and Mack do too.”

They share more details about their plans, and with their sisters’ permission they also tell their friends the plan to combine all of their DNAs to make two babies (Chad and Justin still didn’t know about that part). Thankfully their friends are supportive of the idea, which makes Jared less nervous. He was afraid they would think it’s too weird.

“But who’s gonna carry the babies?” Justin asks. “Megan and Mack can’t do it if they’re donating the eggs. They could if you were using someone else’s eggs.”

Jensen shrugs. “Yeah, that’s the part we still… need to figure out. Since it would be two babies, we need… to find someone who’s willing to carry twins for us. Or two… women so each one would carry one baby. We would like… for it to be someone we know instead of a stranger… we will pay to do it. But I don’t know if we have… too many options if we rule out… our sisters. That’s the next step we will… start working on.”

All of them wish good luck to Jared and Jensen, hoping they’re able to find someone to carry their baby soon.

A week later, Felicia messages Jared saying she would like to talk to both him and Jensen about something important. They invite her over and order Mexican food, since they’re not in the mood for cooking. As she arrives, both Jared and Jensen greet their friend with warm hugs and sit in the living room to talk before having dinner.

“What’s up, Licia?” Jared asks almost immediately after they sit down with their beers, since he’s too impatient and anxious to wait more when he knows there’s something to be talked about.

Felicia looks intently at both of them and clears her throat. “Well guys, you know how you were talking last week about wanting to have babies and needing a surrogate?” Both nod. “Well, I did some thinking… and I’d like to offer my services if you want it.”

Both Jared and Jensen look at Felicia with widened eyes. Jensen needs to make sure he understands it correctly since this seems too good to be true. “Wait. You’re saying what I think… you’re saying? You’re offering to carry the babies… for us? Is that it?”

Felicia nods with a smile. “Yes. If you haven’t found a surrogate yet, I’d be happy to do it for you guys.”

Jensen frowns, scooting forward on the couch. “Oh wow. Just… are you sure? This is something huge… Licia. You’d basically be carrying twins… even risking some complications, to have babies… that aren’t even yours. You need to be really… sure about it.”

She smiles wider. “I am. Like I said, I spent the week thinking about it. I mean, you guys know I’m gay. And it’s not in my plans to have babies even if I find a nice girl. I don’t want children of my own, I don’t want to be responsible for another life. But I’d also like to have the experience of growing a human life. Or lives. I think it’s a miracle. And if I’m doing it to help two people I really care about so they can fulfill their dream of becoming parents, then why not? I’m willing to go through the challenges of a double pregnancy to help you guys have your babies. You can mix your sperm and your sisters’ eggs and put them inside me, I will happily be the oven.”

Jensen feels emotional hearing that, his eyes getting moist. He looks from Felicia to Jared, whose eyes are also shining.

“You’d really do such a huge thing for us, Licia? Like for real?” Jared asks with a tight voice, a tear escaping his eye.

Felicia nods. “Sure thing. Better to do it now that I’m still single and it won’t be weird for my partner or anything. It will be like what Phoebe Buffay did for her brother, remember? And she had triplets, oh my God. I just hope your embryos don’t split in my uterus and create four babies. Fingers crossed that it’s only two!”

Jared chuckles and walks over to where Felicia is sitting, giving her a tight hug. Jensen follows suit and they have an emotional group hug, both thanking her profusely for her generosity. Jensen even orders a cheesecake for dessert so they can celebrate this new step to fulfill their dream.

During the next few months, Jared and Jensen go through all the procedures to have their babies. With Chad and Justin’s help they get court authorization and contracts for the procedure, and then start the medical part. They find a clinic specialized in fertilization and is one of the best in the country. Felicia goes through all the necessary procedures and exams to receive the embryos, and both Jared and Jensen make sure to be with her through everything. When the time for implantation comes, they fly Megan and Mack to Boston so they can collect their eggs, and both Jared and Jensen donate their sperm. They need to wait about three days before the implantation can happen so the embryos can develop first, and Jensen can’t keep the joke from escaping his mouth, asking the doctor to please not to mix up their sperms and have an IVF incest. Not even Jared can find his pitiful joke funny.

Megan and Mack have decided to stay in town for a few days so they would be present for the implantation of their nephews or nieces. Jared and Jensen take them and Felicia out to dinner at a nice restaurant the night before, so they can thank the girls for doing this for them. On the day of implantation, both of them are very nervous. They hope with everything they have that this works and that their babies are safely created. They take Felicia to the clinic and nervously wait as the procedure happens, Jensen keeping his arms around Jared.

“You think this is gonna work, Jen? What if it doesn’t work? Then what?”

Jensen plants a kiss on Jared's temple. “One thing at a time, love. For now…let’s wait and hope it works. If it doesn’t, we will… see what we do next. Let’s not suffer beforehand. For now we wait and hope, which… it’s all we can do. Alright?”

Jared nods and rests his head on Jensen’s chest.

Once the procedure is done, they take Felicia back to their apartment. The doctor had told them she would need to get some rest after the implantation, and Jensen had suggested she stay with them for a few days since she lives by herself and it could be hard to get proper rest without anyone else to help her out. They have prepared the guest bedroom to welcome Felicia, and as she gets settled, the four of them pamper her as much as they possibly can, also giving her space to rest.

They must wait about seven or eight days before doing a pregnancy test to know if it worked or not, and Jared almost dies of anxiety next to Jensen. Megan and Mack fly back home the day after the implantation since they have to work, but both request instant updates on everything. Felicia goes back to her apartment about three days post implantation, claiming she also needs to get back to her life, but promises both Jared and Jensen she will take it easy.

It’s the longest week in Jared and Jensen’s life, all they can think about is whether or not the procedure worked. Jared is already too anxious due to his autistic nature, so it’s pretty hard for him to spend those days freakout free. He tries to focus his entire mind when he’s working, and even spends some time building Lego sets with Jensen to pass time.

Finally, a millenia later, it’s time to go to the clinic to do the hCG beta blood test. The doctor had advised them against taking a home pregnancy test since it could show a fake result and add even more to their stress. Jared and Jensen pick up Felicia and they ride to the clinic, all feeling very nervous. Upon arrival they collect her blood sample, and they need to wait a while until the test is ready. They go have something to eat until it’s time to know the result, even if neither Jared or Jensen can eat much.

Then after another hundred years, the doctor finally calls them to the office to give them the result. The three of them sit in front of the doctor, Jared squeezes Jensen’s hand so hard it must be hurting but he can’t help it.

“So, doctor? Did the implantation work or not? Please tell us.”

The doctor looks at all of them for a few moments and places the test on the desk between them, finally cracking a happy smile.

“Well, congratulations. The implantation worked and Ms. Day is indeed pregnant. If all goes well, in about nine months you’re going to be parents.”

Jared feels as if a wave is crashing over him, the emotion hitting him hard. Jensen pulls him into a hug, and he holds his husband tight, the notion that it actually work too big to comprehend just yet.

“It worked, J-Rod!” Jensen exclaims as they pull apart, and Jared can see how his husband is emotional. Jared smiles at him and remembers Felicia, pulling her to the hug as well.

“Thank you for doing this for us Licia,” Jared murmurs as the three of them celebrate. “It means the world to us.”

Felicia smiles at both of them, placing a hand on her belly. “Can’t believe there’s someone growing in here!”

The three of them calm down and face the doctor again, who gives them a nod. “Yes, it’s very good that it worked. But of course it’s only the beginning. Sadly it’s very common to miscarry especially during the first trimester of the pregnancy, so we will all try our best to make sure Ms. Day carries the pregnancy full term. I’ll prescribe everything you should take to help keep the embryos inside. And I need to remind you of another thing. Even if we know for sure that Ms. Day is pregnant, it’s still too early to tell exactly how many babies are in there. It could be only one and not two as you wish. Or who knows, it could be even more. In a few weeks we will be able to determine just how many babies you’re carrying, and of course we will be monitoring the pregnancy closely to make sure it all goes well.”

They all leave the clinic feeling pretty much on cloud nine. Jared is trying hard to keep his anxiety under control knowing that there is in fact a baby (or hopefully babies) growing inside Felicia. He knows he will have to learn to control his anxiety even more from now on, since anything can happen to the pregnancy and he needs to prepare himself to face every scenario and not end up freaking out completely.

Jared and Jensen take Felicia out to lunch to celebrate the success of the implantation, and when they drop her off at her place she promises them she will do everything possible to secure the pregnancy. They decide to only tell their closest ones for now, mostly those who already knew the implantation would happen. Megan and Mack are over the moon with the news that it worked, as well as their parents and brothers. They also tell Chad and Justin of course, since their friends were following it closely.

It’s hard to control their nerves during the next month. Both of them are pretty nervous about the prospect of a miscarriage, since it’s pretty common to happen. Felicia always updates them, she thankfully understands how anxious they are especially since she’s not with them all the time.

It’s finally time to go have the first ultrasound at the clinic and hopefully learn how many babies there are, and obviously they’re all very nervous. Jensen has been helping Jared with his anxiety, since it’s a pretty new situation and hard to deal with. As the doctor places the wand over Felicia’s belly, Jensen keeps his arms around Jared. She spends some time examining the images on the screen, then looks at all of them with a smile.

“Well congratulations. If your goal was to have two babies, it was achieved. There are two fetuses growing inside the uterus, one in here and another in here.”

Jared’s eyes immediately fill with tears as he hears the news that they’re in fact having two babies like they planned, and Jensen pulls him for a tight hug.

“We did it, J-Rod!” Jensen whispers in Jared’s ear, and he feels he’s going to explode with happiness. One goal achieved.

Another two months later, they go for another ultrasound to try and find out the sex of the babies. It really doesn’t matter to them, they’ve talked about it and are fine with whichever set they get. But knowing what they’re having will make it more real, so they can start planning everything like names, nursery, etc.

It’s another wave of anxiety as the doctor examines the images on the ultrasound, and then asks if they are interested in knowing the sex of the babies.

“Oh yes please!” Jensen says as he holds Jared’s hand, both standing right next to the bed Felicia is on.

“Well, it seems you’re having two little girls!”

Jensen almost explodes with happiness knowing they’re gonna have two little princesses of their own. Jared feels emotional as well, their dream is slowly taking form.

They finally share with everyone that they’re having twin girls, since now Felicia is past the first trimester and it’s less likely to have a misscarriage. They keep calling them twins because to Jared and Jensen, that’s what they are. Both have their DNAs, and will always be twins for them. Their families and friends are all over the moon with the news that two girls are on the way, everyone already making plans to visit after they’re born.

Jared and Jensen spend some time discussing names. That’s a hard task since both like a lot of different names. They end up deciding that each of them get to choose one name, so everyone will be happy. After a lot of talk they finally decide on two names.

Jensen picks Charlotte since it’s a name he thinks is very beautiful. Jared chooses Carrie and he doesn’t even hide that it’s a homage to Carrie Fischer. They start working on the nursery, deciding to hire a professional to do the design. It’s decided pretty much since the beginning that it will be a Star Wars theme, neither of them would have it otherwise.

They start the renovations in the nursery and monitor them closely. Jared of course, following it even closer and making sure everything is perfect and according to his beloved saga. They also start to buy most of the stuff they will need, and their friends and family also give some presents to the babies.

When Felicia hits around six months of pregnancy she starts requiring more care and attention since she’s carrying twins. Jared and Jensen have a talk with her and invite her to spend the rest of the pregnancy at their house, so they can keep an eye on her and make sure she’s taking it easy. At first she declines it claiming she doesn’t want to give them the trouble, but they gently insist she accepts it. She has no family living close, and they’re too wary of her being alone if anything happens, so she ends up agreeing. They set up the guest room to welcome her, making sure she feels as home as possible, getting her favorite foods and always cooking for her.

Jared and Jensen genuinely like having Felicia with them, not only because she’s carrying their babies but she’s also a very cool girl and a joy to be around. When she hits the last semester of the pregnancy though, things get more tense. When they go for the usual prenatal appointment, the doctor gives them some worrying news.

“I’m concerned about Felicia’s blood pressure,” she says after examining her. “It’s a bit higher than normal and that can be very serious during a pregnancy. She may develop preeclampsia which in some cases, if it develops to eclampsia, can be fatal. What we’re gonna do for now, is put you on bedrest, Felicia. I don’t want you doing anything that takes more than minimal effort, and only get out of bed when necessary. I’m gonna prescribe meds and please make sure you take them at the right times. I’m gonna ask you to get a blood pressure monitor and measure it several times a day so we can see how it’s being controlled. If there’s any significant change, you bring Felicia to the hospital right away. I’m hoping we can keep you at home for some more weeks, but if things take a turn for the worse, which we hope they won’t, I’m going to admit you for the rest of the pregnancy.”

Jared feels his blood going cold at hearing all of that. “But… please doctor, can something bad happen? To Licia or the babies? I don’t want anything to happen to either of them. What happens if we can’t control her blood pressure?”

“Well Jared, in the worst case scenario, we need to deliver the babies. If Felicia develops eclampsia, her life and the babies’ are at serious risk and there’s not much we can do. Felicia is twenty-nine weeks pregnant right now. The babies already have a considerable chance of survival, they would have to stay in the NICU for a while if they were born now. They’re not extreme preemies anymore, so they would have a good chance. But we will do everything we can to make sure we carry this pregnancy at least to thirty-two weeks, since they would be more developed. Thirty-six would be the ideal, that’s our goal. We will be monitoring Felicia closely to make sure we reach that goal. But don’t worry for now, let’s just do what I just instructed and try and make sure all goes well. Can I count on the two of you to make sure Felicia is resting completely?”

Both of them nod vigorously, and Jensen speaks. “Don’t worry, doctor. We will have Felicia… play the ‘floor is lava’ game. She won’t step… foot out of the bed unless it’s completely… necessary.”

They leave the appointment after getting the prescriptions, and all of them are worried, the mood in the car having dropped significantly. Felicia is the one who tries to light it up again by scooting forward on the back seat.

“I’m fine guys, you’ll see. I just need to be pampered and watch lots of Netflix and the babies will be born all healthy and pretty, don’t worry!”

The next weeks are pretty tense. Jared and Jensen make sure Felicia stays in bed as much as possible, they cook all her favorite foods and have all streaming services available to her. They also take care of her medication and measure her blood pressure several times a day. Since both Jared and Jensen can work from home a few days a week, there’s always someone with her so she’s never alone in case something happens. Jared tries to keep himself sane but it’s hard, his anxiety spikes up more often than not, and Jensen has to make a double effort to take care of Jared as well. Jared feels guilty as fuck for adding to Jensen’s pile, but Jensen keeps brushing Jared’s concerns off and reassuring him that it’s okay.

Things get more difficult when Felicia is almost at the thirty-two weeks mark. Her blood pressure spikes and Jared and Jensen rush with her to the hospital. The doctor admits her for the rest of the pregnancy since she deems it not safe for her to stay at home anymore in case they need to do an emergency delivery. Jared is even more nervous and stressed over it, Jensen too of course. They spend most of the time at the hospital with Felicia, their friends that live in the city also help taking turns to keep her company, and both Jared and Jensen are very grateful for them. Jared is just terrified something will happen to her, and voices this concern one night before going to bed with Jensen.

“I just hope nothing happens to her,” he sniffs as Jensen holds him close. “She’s doing us a huge favor and if anything happened I’d never forgive myself.”

Jensen kisses Jared’s temple and pulls him even closer. “Everything will be fine, love. We need to believe… this. She’s been admitted as a precaution… like the doctor said. Even if the babies come earlier… she’s already eight months pregnant, so they have… a good shot. I’m positive they will all be fine… and soon we’ll have our Charlotte and Carrie with us.”

Jared tries to hold onto that as well.

When Felicia hits thirty-five weeks, the doctor announces they’re gonna deliver the babies via c-section, since her blood pressure is very concerning and it would be too risky for the three of them to wait any longer. Jared and Jensen are nervous, but the doctor reassures them that the babies have an excellent chance, Felicia managed to take the pregnancy for almost nine months, and that’s great especially for twins. The babies are well developed already and can be brought to the world safely.

Both Jared and Jensen accompany Felicia to the delivery room, and they thank her profusely for everything she did for them, all the sacrifice she made.

“Well, I wouldn’t complain if you guys want to pay for a trip after this. Maybe a spa day too.” she jokes as a doctor gives her anesthesia, and Jensen kisses her forehead.

“You name the place and we will get… you there first class, sweetie. Promise.”

Jared and Jensen stay pressed together as they watch the doctors perform the C-section, next to Felicia’s head to keep them company, Jensen filming everything with his phone. They squeeze each other’s hand, Jared almost fainting in expectation. When the doctor finally pulls a baby out and a loud cry is heard in the room, neither Jared or Jensen can keep their tears at bay. They look at each other sharing a very significant smile among the tears. Their first girl is here.

The doctor invites them to cut the umbilical cord, and Jensen motions for Jared to do it first. Jared is afraid to screw up but the doctor guides him through it, and Jensen films everything. A nurse takes the baby to be examined, and they anxiously wait for the other one. It doesn’t take long and soon another tiny baby is wailing loudly, bringing more tears to her daddies’ eyes. Jensen cuts the cord this time, handing his phone to Jared.

They have two daughters now. Jared is hit with a big wave of emotion even if he prepared himself for it, and it’s hard to control himself. Jensen notices the distress going on with Jared, and tries to reassure him.

“Love, why don’t you stay here with Licia… while they take care of her, and I’ll go check on the… babies?”

Jared nods, swallowing hard, and sits on a stool next to Licia’s head. Even though she has just had two babies, she also notices Jared’s stress and tries to help him.

“How are you feeling, Jare?”

Jared lets out a breath. “Overwhelmed. Scared. We have two tiny humans now and I don’t know what to do.”

She smiles at him. “You guys will be fine, I know it. Everyone who becomes a parent, has never been one before. Just take one thing at a time.”

Jared nods as he watches Jensen approaching them holding one baby, and a nurse offers Jared the other. Jared feels terrified of holding his child for the first time, and Jensen senses it.

“Love, do you feel like holding… Carrie? She’s dying to meet her daddy.”

Jared frowns at him. “But she doesn’t even know me yet, I doubt she knows I’m her daddy.”

Jensen chuckles. “I know, J-Rod. It’s just a way of speaking… but I bet she knows you already, from all the times… we talked to them in Licia’s belly. Why don’t you try it?”

Jared nods, again kicking himself for taking everything literally. The nurse approaches him and carefully deposits the tiny baby in Jared’s arms. Jared looks at Carrie, who has her eyes opened and is looking around the room. He can’t help his eyes getting moist, he really has a daughter now.

They bring both babies so Felicia can see them, and she kisses the top of their beanie-covered heads. A nurse takes a few pictures of all of them, and then some with just Jared, Jensen and the babies. Then she announces they will have to take the babies to be examined further since they’re still premature, and both Jared and Jensen are sad to let them go. They watch as the babies are wheeled away and Jared hopes he can see the girls soon. He hasn’t even been able to hold Charlotte yet.

Another nurse follows both of them out of the room so they can finish working on Felicia and then she will be taken to the recovery room. Jared and Jensen take off the gear they had been wearing and return to Felicia’s room to wait for her to be back and also for news on the babies. As they enter the room both stare at each other with big smiles on their faces.

“We have two daughters… J-Rod! Can you believe it?”

Jared shakes his head. “We’re parents, Jen. Oh my God. That’s insane!”

Jensen pulls Jared into a hug and they stay like this for a long time, just feeling each other, celebrating the big change in their lives.

The girls have to stay a couple of days in the NICU but the doctor assures them they’re gonna be fine, it’s just a precaution more than anything else. Felicia also stays in the hospital for a couple of days so she can recover from the C-section, and of course both Jared and Jensen barely leave the hospital during this period. They’re allowed to visit the girls and even hold them, the nurses let them give the bottle to them, and they all start bonding. Felicia also visits the girls and gets to hold them, Jared and Jensen truly want for their friend to be a part of the girls’ lives. While they’re not in the NICU they of course keep Felicia company until she’s released.

Both their families are dying to visit and meet the girls, especially their sisters. Their friends are anxious too, but Jared and Jensen have asked them to wait for a while, at least until they bring the babies home and start adapting to all the changes. Jensen knows it will be extra hard because of Jared, it will be a huge disruption of their routine and his husband may suffer from it, despite them having prepared for it. It’s still a big thing to deal with.

Felicia is discharged before the babies, and Jensen drives her to Chad and Justin’s house. She doesn’t have any family in town and needed a place to stay while she recovers from the birth of the twins, and their friends graciously offered for her to stay with them for a while, since Jared and Jensen will have a handful with the babies, and they couldn’t be more thankful for the amazing friends they have. Before leaving the hospital Jared gives Felicia a big hug, again thanking her for everything and promising to see her soon.

The babies are finally released four days after they’re born, and the proud papas get to take them home. They strap the babies to the car seats and ride home in a mixture of anxiety, happiness, fear, and love. Jared has a hard time dealing with so many emotions at once, the fact that they’re bringing two new people home and everything will change, but he tries to deal with it as best as he can. He has Jensen with him, and hopefully it will all be okay.

They finally arrive home and each of them carries in a baby. Jensen unlocks the door and both step inside, Jared feeling his heart beating loudly in his chest.

“Welcome home, princesses!” Jensen says as he shows Carrie around the living room. “This will be your new home… with us. Harley will join us as soon… as Chad brings him. You’re gonna love him, he’s your big… brother.” Jensen comes closer to Jared and wraps his free arm around him, kissing his temple. “We’re gonna be a big happy… family. And in here you’ll only know happiness and love.”

Eight Months Later

Jared and Jensen sit on a blanket in their backyard with Carrie and Charlotte sitting close to them, playing with big blocks - Jared got them blocks before they even managed to hold them. Harley is lying next to them just watching the babies, as he usually does. He’s very protective of their little sisters, it was love at first sight.

The last eight months have been intense to say the least. It wasn’t easy adjusting to having two newborns with them, and as predicted it was harder on Jared since their whole routine changed. Jensen knew how bad his husband felt for having some crisis, he would apologize to Jensen and promise he did love the babies. Jensen had to reassure Jared over and over that he understood and it was nothing to be sorry for. Jensen was patient and would always help Jared get through those. He still has his moments and Jensen knows he will always have those as the girls grow up and new things happen. But they’re a team and get through everything together.

Jared’s mom flew to Boston soon after they brought the girls home so she could help them, and for that they were very grateful. Having two brand new babies wasn’t a walk in the park and they could use all the help they could get. Donna also stayed with them for a while after Sherri had to go home. Of course all their close ones started visiting them and the babies, everyone being so excited to meet them. Their families started traveling to Boston about a month after the girls were born, their sisters were over the moon to meet their nieces and it was love at first sight. AJ and Julia also fell in love with their cousins, and Jensen knows they will be a fun gang of little rascals.

Their friends are always visiting as well, Chad and Justin come over pretty much every other day since they live so close now, and they adore the girls. They adore their uncles as well. They even started offering to babysit for a few nights, so Jared and Jensen can have some time for themselves and just be with each other, go out to dinner or just stay home and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a welcome break so they can just breathe for a few hours and focus on each other instead of worrying about two tiny humans 24/7. Their other friends always come by often, especially Felicia who obviously has a special bond with the girls. True to their word, Jared and Jensen paid for a trip after Felicia was recovered from the c-section. She went to Europe for two weeks with all expenses paid by them, as a thank you present for the huge gift she gave them.

Life with Charlotte and Carrie is incredible. Jared can’t remember feeling this happy in his life. He has his own perfect family with Jensen and their daughters, and it couldn’t be better if he had imagined it. Sometimes he looks back, when he worked at the nightclub, thinking that would be his life always because he was too weird for anything else, to have friends and someone who truly loved him. Then Jensen came along and changed everything, gave Jared his love, a home, a diagnosis, a future, a beautiful family.

Jared gets lost in thoughts as he watches their little girls playing right next to them, how they giggle and throw their chubby arms around. He watches as Jensen cuts some grapes with a knife and offers them, now that the girls have started eating solids. Jared watches with a silly smile on his face how Charlotte looks at Jensen with big, round hazel eyes. Her hair is a shade lighter than Jensen’s, her lips thin and there’s a lovely mole right next to her nose. Carrie on the other hand, has greener eyes and closer in shape to Jared’s than Jensen's, though a bit rounder as well. She has chestnut hair, fuller lips and some freckles scattered over her cheeks and nose.

Both of them are a perfect combination of Jared and Jensen. Their sisters had the best idea ever to offer their eggs so they could create two babies with their shared DNA. It truly looks like both babies are their biological daughters.

Jared caresses Harley’s fur and turns to Jensen, remembering a conversation they had with their sisters when they first visited.

“I was thinking about when Mack and Megan asked if we were taking a DNA test to learn which baby is biologically my daughter and which one is yours. We have been too busy with them since they were born to think much about this, but… do we think we should do it?”

Jensen looks at the two babies, knowing inside of him how he feels. He gives Jared a small smile. “Do you want to know?”

Jared shakes his head. “Not really. When they were first conceived I thought I’d like to know. But now after having them here with us, after falling in love with them so unconditionally, I realize it really doesn’t matter. I don’t care which of them is my biological daughter. I wouldn’t love one more than the other. Both are my daughters the exact amount. Plus, both have my DNA anyway, it doesn’t matter how. I don’t think it’s important for us to find out which baby is which. What do you think?”

Jensen smiles wider, taking Jared’s hand and kissing his temple. “I agree, love. I also feel the same… way. It doesn’t matter to me, I love them… exactly the same. I can see myself and you in both… of them, both outside and inside as well. I say we don’t take the DNA test, we don’t need… to. Unless it’s absolutely necessary in the future… for some reason. But other than that… let’s just stay like this. Both of them are as much… mine as they are yours. Deal?”

Jared nods. “Definitely!” Jared stays quiet for a while watching the girls, then voices his concern. “I’m still afraid I may not be enough for them at some point. I hope I can do everything right so I can be a good father to them, a father they deserve.”

Jensen wraps an arm around Jared’s shoulder and pulls him closer. “It won’t be easy sometimes. But not because… you’re autistic. It’s not easy for anyone. We learn… as we go and do the best we can. Those two will have… the most important things. Two parents who love… them unconditionally, a solid loving family… who is prepared to deal with differences… and lots of people who love them as well. I say they’re pretty… lucky.”

Jared smiles and rests his head on Jensen’s shoulder. “I think they got this trait from us. I say we’re pretty lucky as well, aren’t we?”

Jensen nods. “We’re the luckiest people in the world… J-Rod.”

Jared suddenly lifts his head and looks at Jensen with widened eyes. “When do you think we can bring them to Disney? I want to get them tiny Star Wars costumes and take them to the Galaxy’s Edge to introduce them to the saga in the best way possible. We could stay in the bungalow again. Oh, do you think Chad and Justin would want to come as well? I bet they would, that would be so cool! What do you think??”

Jensen laughs and gives Jared a lingering kiss on the lips as he can hear Charlotte giggling and Carrie trying to climb Jensen’s legs.

They’re without a doubt the luckiest people in the world. Jensen knows he is, for sure.
