Chapter 1: Changing

Chapter Text

Peter and Harry were walking through the Oscorp building with their class on the last day of school. Peter was looking around amazed while Harry just walked beside him unimpressed.

"I don't understand how your not freaking out dude!" Peter said looking to his friend. Harry shrugged.

"I come here every day." He said. "Besides, I don't really understand this stuff like you do." He said as there class came to a stop in front of one of the labs. Norman was standing outside the lab while scientists could be seen through the glass doors. Norman began talking about various things his company was working on, and even showed some prototypes. Peter listened intently but Harry broke off from the group, and began talking to a janitor. Norman talked for about half an hour before the class was allowed to go explore on their own. Peter was tempted to look at the many inventions, but went to look for Harry instead. He found Harry leaned against a wall, waving to the janitor as they walked off.

"Who was that?" Peter asked glancing at the janitor.

"No clue." Harry said. "Seems nice though." He said. He looked at Peter and smiled. "So, which of my dad's batshit crazy inventions do you wanna see first?" Harry asked as he gestured to the rest of the building. Peter looked around for a moment before spotting a room labeled Bio Lab S-1.

"There!" Peter said pointing. He grabbed Harry's arm and dragged him to the room. When they were standing at the door Peter let go of Harry and tried pushing the metal door open. Nothing happened and that's when Peter spotted the keypad beside the door. He looked at it and frowned. Harry glanced at his face and approached the keypad, putting in a sequence of numbers. The metal door slid open and Peter looked at him with a confused smile.

"Dad uses the same password for everything." Harry said as he walked inside. Peter followed him and looked around. Three of the walls had glass cages stacked floor to ceiling. The cages all had various spiders in them and information cards on the corner of the cage. Peter looked at some of the spiders and Harry just leaned against the doorway, happily watching his friend. Peter walked past a cage labeled Missulena occatoria-venomous. Peter was a little concerned that he couldn't see it, but reasoned that it was probably just in it's burrow. He went to look at a different spider. They spent about thirty minutes in there when Peter felt something moving underneath his hoodie. He looked down and saw a spider crawling onto his hand. The spider had a red head and jaw, with a dark blue abdomen. Peter moved his hand slightly to get a better look at it, and then felt as it's fangs pierced his skin.

"Ow!" Peter yelled as he flicked his wrist, the spider flying off his hand. Harry quickly rushed to him.

"Whoa, you okay dude?" Harry asked. Peter didn't respond. He was dizzy and felt drained. He leaned his back against Harry as his vision went blurry. "Peter?!" Harry yelled. Peter felt his head start to throb and closed his eyes, suddenly exhausted. He heard Harry yell again but couldn't make any words out as he drifted to sleep.

________________________________________________________________________________

Peter groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. He had to quickly close them again due to a bright light above him. He turned his head and opened his eyes. Peters vision was blurry but he was able to see some sort of machine, that had a steady beeping noise coming from it. Hospital. Peter thought. He turned his head to the other side and saw someone resting their head on his legs. And Peter knew that red-ish orange hair anywhere.

"Harry?" He said with a weak voice. Harry's head shot up and he stared at Peter. Harry's yellow eyes were puffy and glossed. Tear marks trailed through the freckles on his cheeks.

"P-Peter?" He asked in disbelief. Peter smiled.

"Yeah bud." He said. Harry smiled bright and lunged at Peter, their lips connecting. Peter froze. The kiss only lasted a few seconds before Harry pulled away. He stared at Peter with fear. Harry quickly ran out of the room leaving Peter laying there dumbfounded. A few minutes later and two other people entered the room.

"Peter!" Ben yelled as he threw his arms around the teen.

"Uncle Ben." Peter said happily as he hugged back.

"Oh sweetie!" May said as she sat down beside his bed. Peter pulled away from Ben to hug her.

"Hey aunt May." Peter said with a small smile. "Where's Harry?" He asked.

"He said he had to do something for his dad." Ben said. Peter frowned.

"You can see him after we get you out of here." May said as she stood up. Her and Ben walked out leaving Peter alone with his thoughts. He has been in love with Harry since the start of their freshman year, and now at the end he kisses Peter? It felt like a dream. But in a dream Harry would have stayed. This was a nightmare. May and Ben walked back in accompanied by a lady doctor with frizzy black hair.

"Hello Mr. Parker." She said politely, with a hint of an accent. "I'm Dr. Moralse. Do you remember what happened at Oscorp?" Dr. Moralse asked. Peter thought for a moment.

"Y-yeah." He said. "Me and my Friend Harry were just looking around when a spider crawled onto my hand." He lied. "I thought it was just a normal spider. When it bit me I got dizzy and blacked out." Peter finished. Dr. Moralse nodded.

"Well," She began. "The venom has left your system, and it doesn't seem to have done to much damage." The doctor continued. "I'm going to release you, but if anything happens you need to come right back." She said firmly. Peter nodded. After that he got in his clothes and was taken home. The hole ride back he was on his phone texting Harry.

Peter: hey I'm outta the hospital now, doc says I'm alright

Peter waited a few minutes but Harry didn't answer.

Peter: I think I'll take it easy for a few days but do you want to hangout?

More silence. Peter took a shaky breath and shoved the phone in his pocket. He leaned his head against the car window and tried to ignore his racing emotions. They eventually got back to the house and Peter went straight to his room. He sat on his bed and checked his phone again. The messages were read but there was still no response. Peter sighed and set his phone on his nightstand. He stood up and grabbed a notebook from his desk then sat in his office-chair. He opened it up to a page filled with physics equations and doodles. He tried reaching for a pencil but the pages of the notebook stuck to his hands.

Peter looked at his hands confused. He tried getting the pages off but they stuck to his hands like magnets. He continued to struggle and did manage to get his hand off the pages, but the force from the struggle sent his chair and him flying backwards. Peters chair hit against his bed frame and he looked down at his hands. There were small pieces of the pages still stuck to his hands, but it was the small holes in his wrist that got his attention. And by small I mean about as wide as a hair. Peter brought one wrist to his face and examined the hole.

He gently ran a finger over the hole and noticed that under it there was something bulging ever so slightly under his skin. He ran his thumb over it. It felt like two small thin muscles. Peter put a small amount of pressure on the muscles and felt something rushing through his body towards his wrist. Suddenly a white thread shot from the hole in his wrist and attached to the wall. Peter just stared for a moment before looking back at his wrist and carefully pulling off the end of the thread. He stood up and walked towards the wall.

He cautiously touched the thread. It was sticky and when pulling it it held to the wall pretty well. Peter backed away from the thread. What the fuck did that hospital give me?  Peter thought to himself. He just opened his bedroom door and began walking downstairs. He saw Ben in the kitchen pulling his jacket on.

"Where's May?" Peter asked as he walked towards his uncle.

"At the coffee shop." Ben said as he grabbed his keys. "We had to leave our jobs to get to the hospital. And now we gotta get back." He explained. Peter nodded.

"Okay." Peter said. "I'm gonna head to Harry's place for a bit." He said walking to the door.

"Wanna ride?" Ben asked walking beside him. "I can take you to my shop, maybe  you can walk the rest of the way?" He suggested. Peter smiled. Finally something normal. He thought.

"Sure." He said happily. They walked outside and to Bens old, beat up car. They road in silence for a while, with Peter seemingly drowning in his thoughts once more. Ben glanced at him.

"You alright bud?" Ben asked.

"Oh uh..." Peter said. "Y-yeah, I'm fine." He said with a strained smile. Ben sighed.

"No your not." He said softly. "You're thinking about something. What is it?" He asked as they pulled up to his clock shop. Peter remained silent. "Is it about a girl?" Ben asked with a hint of snark. Peter stiffened and looked away from him. "Is it about a boy?" Ben asked softly as he parked the car. Peter snapped his head towards Ben. Ben smiled at him. Peter just gave a small nod and looked down at his lap. "It's Harry, isn't it?" Ben asked.

"How did-" Peter began to question before getting cut of by Bens chuckle.

"You and Harry have been pinning for each other for years." He said through laughter. "I'm surprised it took this long for you to say something." He continued. He finally stopped laughing and looked at Peter with a smile. "So, what happened?" Ben asked gently. Peter just stared at him for a moment.

"In the hospital," he began, "he must've been worried about me, cause when he saw that I had woken up..... he kissed me." Peter said that last bit a little quieter than the rest. Ben nodded.

"Took him long enough." He said with a smirk. The smirk vanished when Peter reminded silent.

"He ran." Peter said with a quivering voice. "What if it was just a mistake? What if he doesn't actually love me?" He asked as tears began trailing down his cheeks. "What if he never wants to see me again?" Peter broke down when uttering the last question. He sobbed at the mere thought.

"Hey hey," Ben said, gently cupping Peters cheeks. "I've watched that boy stare at you like you were his hole world for years. He loves you, trust me." Ben said reassuringly. Peter just kept crying. Ben sighed and wiped his tears. "And if he doesn't, then he doesn't deserve you." He said. "Peter, you are the best person I have ever met. You are good and kind at your very core. Anyone that can't see that isn't worth it." He said. Peter stopped crying and looked at Ben.

"Do you mean that?" Peter asked. Ben nodded.

"No matter what you decide to do, no matter who you become, you are going to do something extraordinary." Ben said softly. "And I'll be with you every step of the way." He said. Peter smiled.

"Thanks." Peter said as he undid his belt. Him and Ben got out of the car and stood in front of the shop for a moment. "Whelp, this is either going to be amazing or absolutely awful." Peter said with a weak chuckle.

"Good luck." Ben said. Peter nodded and walked off. As he walked he pulled out his phone.

Peter: hey I'm coming over

There was silence. Peter sighed and put his phone in his pocket. He walked for a bit and when he was just a few blocks from the Oscorp building something happened. A strange feeling over came Peter. It was like someone was blasting loud music, but no sound could be heard. Instead it felt as though the bass was being pumped through Peter and shaking his very soul. With this feeling Peter made the decision to jump into an alley way. A person in a hoodie ran past. They had a backpack slung over there shoulder and Peter could see something in their hand. When they ran past a police officer ran after them.

Once they had gone past Peter stepped out of the alley. He looked to were the person and cop were running for a moment, before turning to continue his journey. After a while he finally got to Oscorp. He walked in and went straight to the elevator. He road up to the penthouse with dread. The elevator stopped and Peter stepped out into the large home. The living room was empty and the house in general seemed more lifeless and melancholy then usual. Peter walked through the dreary halls to Harry's room. As he got close to the rooms door he could hear music coming from inside, as well as a voice singing along to it.

"I wish I could be a girl, that way you'd wish I could be your girlfriend-boyfriend." The voice was horse, and a bit less energetic than the song itself. Peter took a deep breath before slowly opening the door. The room was covered by darkness but Peter could see a figure laying on the bed.

"Harry?" Peter called out. The figure shot up and turned to look at him.

"P-Peter...." Harry stuttered out. Peter walked closer and sat beside him. They just stared at each other for a moment. "I-I'm sorry for the hospital, I was.... I just.... It wasn't...." Harry trailed off.

"Did you mean it?" Peter asked bluntly.

"W-what?" Harry asked confused.

"Did you mean it?" Peter repeated, a bit harshly this time. Harry thought for a moment.

"Yes." He said dolefully. Peter smiled.

"Good." He said before leaning in to kiss his friend. Harry hummed and leaned in, holding onto Peters shoulders. After a few seconds they both pulled away. Harry looked at him with a dreamy smile.

"I love you." Harry said before he kissed Peter again. He pulled away after a moment. "Fuck, I've loved you from the start." He said close to tears. Peter smiled at him.

"I love you too." Peter said kissing his cheek. "I've loved you for years." He said softly, leaning his forehead against Harry's. Harry smiled and closed his eyes, reaching one of his hands to hold Peters. Peter in turn intertwined their fingers. After a few minutes of just listening to each other's breathing Harry finally broke the silence.

"So we could've been making out this hole time?" He said with a chuckle. Peter laughed.

"Well, we've got the rest of the summer to catch up." He said. "And when school comes back around, we can do all the cheesy high school sweethearts stuff." He said kiss Harry again. Harry smiled against his lips and pulled away after a moment.

"Like what?" He asked as he laid back on his bed. Peter smiled as he laid beside Harry.

"Like study dates, and going to prom together." Peter said, laying his head against Harry's chest.

"Making out under the stairs." Harry said with a smirk.

"Sure." Peter said. They laid there cuddling for a while before Peters phone started ringing. Peter groaned as he pulled it from his pocket. He looked at the caller ID briefly, it was May. Probably just doesn't know where I am. Peter thought as he answered. "What's up May?" He asked.

"P-Peter..." May said. Her voice was horse, and Peter could hear sirens in the background.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Peter asked as he sat up.

"S-something happened at the shop, Ben was..." After May uttered the last word Peter dropped his phone and started sobbing. Harry quickly sat up and held his shoulders.

"Pete?" Harry said. "What's wrong?" He asked. Peter just kept crying.
