“It seemed to be working great a few minutes ago,” she continued. “Would you care to enlighten me as to why you’re in my signing line?” Her voice was sweet as molasses, and just as sticky. A trap laid.
“Um… I’d like to get a signed copy of your book, please,” he answered, deciding, finally, that perhaps politeness was the best strategy.

G.C. Bird folded her lithe arms in front of her on the table.
“No.”
Azriel bristled. “I’m sorry?”
“Yes, that’s how you should have started. But you didn’t, so I’m going to have to ask you to remove yourself from the line, or I will have you removed from it,” she sighed and batted her lashes, a great, bright smile painting her lips.
“Listen, I’m sorry, okay?” he muttered. “The book is for my sister-in-law. She loves your books, and my brother is counting on me to get this.”
“Well, then I guess you’ll have to explain to your brother that you couldn’t get this one little thing because you decided to be a colossal asshole.”
