Work Text:

Eddie loves being in the back of Steve’s bakery and watching him bake.

Steve loses himself in it, the mixing of ingredients in a bowl, kneading sourdough on a flour-covered surface, really putting his muscle to it, whisking stuff by hand and showing off his upper body strength, bending over when he’s putting things into the oven and…

‘See something interesting?’ Steve’s amused voice jars Eddie out of his ogling and musings.

Eddie puts a hand to his chest, really hams it up, cocks his head and winks. ‘Who, me? Maybe.’

Steve leans onto the counter behind him, hands on his hips and smirks. ‘Oh, so you’re here…’ he checks his watch, ‘at 5.30 on a Saturday morning because of maybe? You, Eddie Munson, who never got out of bed on weekends before noon back when we were dating?’

Eddie jumps down from the counter he’d been sitting on despite Steve complaining about it every time , and stalks to him, smirking, maybe yawning a little. He’s in his pajamas while Steve is actually dressed, and will be going up into their apartment for a snooze once he’s gotten his fill of seeing being all competent and sexy while doing it. He reaches for his hand when they’re finally chest to chest with Steve’s hands laced around his waist, drawing him in. He kisses the ring there, as he so often does, part of him still can’t quite believe it’s there, a matching band on his own ring finger.

‘Well, there are things I wouldn’t do for a boyfriend, but will gladly do for my husband .’

‘Are there?’ Steve asks, moving closer, peppering small kisses over Eddie’s cheek before he makes their lips meet in a lazy early-morning kiss.

‘Yeah…’

They kiss languidly, losing themselves in each other, but it comes to an end when the timer dings. Eddie reluctantly lets go and Steve goes to get the cinnamon rolls out of the oven, only because he likes cinnamon rolls, he tells himself, and Steve will let him have some once they are cool enough. Well, that and Steve would actually pout if they burned and he can’t have that.

Eddie hops back onto the counter to watch Steve get started with the cold-rise breakfast rolls, his hands moving with practiced ease as he works the dough. Once the rolls are settled on trays to rise before being put in the oven, Steve comes to him with kisses and two cinnamon rolls which taste a lot like love.

Being awake this early is definitely worth it.
