Work Text:
Sportacus pulls out another drawer, flipping it over and dumping the contents onto the floor. He squats down, sifting through everything as fast as he can, throwing things off to the side.
"Why the hell are you destroying my lair!?" Robbie yells as he stomps over to the elf now pulling open drawers on his tool box.
"I can't find it!" Sportacus says with rising panic. "It has to be here somewhere!"
"What has to be here, Sportamess!?" Robbie snaps as he slaps his hand against the next drawer, preventing Sportacus from opening it.
"This was the last place I had it!" Sportacus says, now in a full panic.
"HAD WHAT!?" Robbie yells.
"My crystal!" Sportacus says as he begins to shake. "I had it when I woke up and now it's gone!"
"You lost it again!?" Robbie says with irritation in his voice. Sportacus nods with a whimper. "How the hell do you keep losing something so important!? Do you not remember how sick you got the last time we couldn't find it!? Those little shits blamed me!?"
"I know, I'm sorry!" Sportacus says, tears now starting to run down his cheeks. "Robbie, I need your help, please!"
"Of course you do." Robbie says now slouching. "Now tell me, exactly what did you do this morning?"
Sportacus recounts his morning to the fae. He had woken up and gotten out of bed, having to slide out from under Robbie who was sprawled out on top of him. The hero had done his morning routine in the bathroom then had gotten dressed, clicking his crystal into place. He ate breakfast then headed out to do his morning exercise around town. It was on his third lap around the sports field when he finally noticed his crystal was gone.
"So you had it when you left the lair?" Robbie asks, Sportacus nods. "Then it must be outside somewhere!" Robbie heads over to the pipe, he climbs out Sportacus right behind him. Robbie walks slowly around the hatch, scanning the ground for any type of glint or gleam.
"D-did you find it yet?" Sportacus asks after a few minutes of searching.
"Yes, but I hid it again so you can find it." Robbie says sarcastically. Sportacus pouts at him.
"This isn't the time for making jokes Robbie!" Sportacus says, anger now mixed in with the panic.
"Well stop losing your shit and I'll stop making jokes!" Robbie says with a scowl.
"I didn't lose it on purpose!" Sportacus snaps.
"Don't get snippy with me, Sportaclumsy!" Robbie snaps back at him.
"If all you're going to do is make jokes and call me names then I don't want your help!" Sportacus says raising his voice. "Just go back to the lair, sit in your chair and do nothing, like you always do!"
"Oh! Well I'm sorry for not being an overactive health freak like you!" Robbie says, his own voice raising as he steps in front of Sportacus, standing tall and glaring down at the elf, his eyes starting to glimmer purple. "But at least I know where my stuff is!"
"Then go be with your stuff!" Sportacus yells through angry tears. "I don't want help from, from....a lazy villain!!"
"Well I don't want to help some hyper hero!" Robbie yells back. "Go find it yourself, elf!" Robbie snaps himself back into the lair, the hatch slamming shut.
Sportacus turns and heads back towards the sports field, walking slow as he scans the grass. He soon gets to the field, walking around searching the ground. He is on the verge of sobbing as his panic at not being able to find it grows, along with his anger at Robbie.
'He can be so selfish! It's not like I lose it on purpose! This stupid casing just won't stay shut! Sportacus thinks as he touches the empty casing on his chest. He can already feel his stomach starting to turn and his muscles ache, his body becoming aware that his crystal is gone. 'It has to be here!' He starts to walk along the edge of the field, kneeling down to look into the bushes, evening laying flat to look under the benches. He makes his fourth lap around the field, coming to a stop at the short wall.
"I'm never gonna find it!" Sportacus yells as he falls to the ground, slumping against the wall as he pulls his knees to his chest and begins to sob.
"Sportacus?" The hero looks up as Stephanie comes around the corner, he quickly jumps up, wiping his face as he tries to compose himself.
"Hi Stephanie." He says with a crack in his voice.
"Whats wrong?" Stephanie says as she stands next to him, placing her hand on his arm. He looks down at her and is unable to stop his tears from starting again.
"I can't find my crystal!" He says as he covers his face with his hands.
"Oh no!" Stephanie says. "Don't worry Sportacus, I'll help you look, I'll go get the others and we can all help! Be right back." Sportacus watches as she runs off to town, quickly coming back with all the kids. They all begin to search the field again, soon making circles around the field, going further out with each lap.
After nearly two hours of searching, and the whole town now knowing the heros crystal was gone and joining in, they come up empty handed. Sportacus is now sitting on a bench rubbing at a cramp in his stomach, his head now throbbing, he breaths slow fighting back the urge to vomit.
"I'm sorry Sportacus." Stephanie says as she comes to stand in front of him. "Is there anywhere else we could look? Maybe the lair?" Sportacus looks to the side as he gets angry again.
"Speaking of, where is Robbie?" Trixie says as she joins them. "Why isn't your boyfriend helping you look?"
"Cause he's too busy being lazy." Sportacus says with an angry stare at the ground. "He told me to look for it myself."
"What an asshole!" Trixie says, Sportacus not even getting mad at her this time. "You'd think he'd want to help, especially after what happened last time."
"That doesn't sound like Robbie." Stephanie says. "He always helps, you guys didn't have a fight or something did you?"
Sportacus looks to the side as he nods. Feelings of guilt at calling Robbie lazy and selfish now adding to his stomach ache. Robbie did always help, almost always being the one to find his crystal. Sportacus had let his panic get the better of him and had taken his frustration with himself out on the fae.
"He started to help, but then," Sportacus swallows the lump in his throat as guilty tears now threaten to fall. "He made a joke about me losing my stuff all the time, so I called him a lazy villain and told him to go be with his stuff."
"Sportacus!" Stephanie says in shock.
"I didn't mean it!" Sportacus defends as he looks up at her. "I was mad at myself for losing it again and I took my anger out on Robbie. I shouldn't have done that, not after I made such a mess looking through the lair. It's my own fault it's gone."
"That doesn't give him the right to be a jerk and make you look for it alone!" Trixie says.
"Who are you calling a jerk, loudmouth?" They all turn to see Robbie walking up, hands behind his back.
"You!" Trixie says. "Or do you prefer asshole?"
Robbie scowls at her for a few seconds before turning to his elf, Sportacus standing up and facing him. There is a slight pinch in the faes chest as he looks at the puffy red eyes filled with tears.
"Here." Robbie says holding out his hand, Sportacus crystal gleaming in the sun.
"My crystal!" Sportacus says, his face lighting up with a smile as he takes it quickly, placing it against his chest he instantly begins to feel better. "Where did you find it?"
"Under the kitchen table." Robbie says. "I found it just after you left."
"You found it right after he left but waited two hours to bring it to him?" Trixie asks. "Jerk."
"Yes, because I needed it!" Robbie snaps at her.
"For what?" Trixie says with a glare of her own.
"For this!" Robbie holds out his other hand, a new casing identical to the one on the heros vest in his hand.
"What this?" Sportacus asks as he timidly takes it.
"This casing is voice activated." Robbie says with a smug smile. "It only works with my voice, so now you can't take out the crystal unless I open it for you. That way you won't lose it anymore."
"You made this for me?" Sportacus says smiling up at him.
"Someone had to." Robbie says with a small blush. "And I was getting tired of playing hide and seek with your crystal so, there you go."
"Thank you Robbie!" Sportacus says as he pulls the fae into a tight hug. He quickly switches out the casings on his vest, placing his crystal inside the new one.
"Close." Robbie says loudly, the casing snapping shut.
They now stand awkwardly looking at each other, neither one saying anything.
"I'm so glad you got your crystal back Sportacus." Stephanie says, breaking the awkward silence. "We should go now." She says as she takes Trixie by the arm, pulling her away as she waves goodbye to them. They stand staring at each other for a solid minute.
"I'm sorry Robbie." Sportacus finally says. "I didn't mean to snap at you like that."
"I'm sorry, too." Robbie says with a blush. "I shouldn't have made fun of you."
"I'm really sorry for what I said." Sportacus says as a stray tear falls down his cheek. "Your not a lazy villain."
"Actually, I am." Robbie says as he reaches up to wipe the tear away, getting a small smile from his elf. "Sorry I took so long in bringing it back. You feeling ok?"
"I'm fine now." Sportacus says as he smiles up at him. "Thank you." He gets on his toes, placing a soft kiss to the faes lips before wrapping his arms around him in a tight hug, Robbie hugging back just as tight.
"I love you Robbie Rotten!" Sportacus says as he nuzzles against his chest.
"I love you too, Sportacus." Robbie says. "But you snap at me again like that, and you'll be sleeping alone in the airship for at least a week!"
"I was gonna tell you the same thing." Sportacus says with a chuckle.
"Deal." Robbie says, placing a small kiss to the heros head. "Now, let's get back to the lair. That stuffs not gonna clean itself up!" Sportacus takes Robbies hand, allowing the fae to lead him back to the lair.
