Oscar wasn't quite sure why he'd started doing it, but it'd become some sort of hobby over the last few months.
Lando likes to hum to himself. A lot. Sometimes, it's a soft mumble of a song he loves. Those are difficult; means Oscar has to find the song online somehow or ask Lando directly, but he manages. Usually, Oscar gets slightly irritated by humming, especially just before a race, but Lando's just seems to make him smile and even relax a little. Huh, weird.
Before races, Lando tends to blast the same playlist over and over, certain songs being put on loop for a while before the Brit changes it over again. He adds those songs as well, the looped ones, because Lando clearly likes them a lot.
Several times, Lando hears a snippet of a song on tiktok or someone else will hum a tune and it'll be stuck in his head all day. He doesn't seem to realise he's doing it, Oscar notes, when he hums or quietly sings the chorus of a song on repeat throughout the course of their day. He likes those ones; just Lando absently singing to himself, lost in his own world. They're usually easier too - often very popular songs he doesn't really have to search for the titles of.
Oscar finds himself smiling gently whenever he catches Lando accidentally singing to himself.
The Mclaren media team devise a 'Finish the lyrics' challenge for them to do in Austin. He isn't sure if they count, these songs, since they aren't really Lando's, but there's something heavy about the way his teammate sings Taylor Swift's 'Love Story' directly to Oscar. So. It makes the cut.
After the race in Brazil, Oscar passes Lando's driver room on the way to his own. The door is slightly cracked open and Oscar pauses outside as he hears Lando's, not-quite-angelic, voice swirling loudly around the room to the backing track of Mariah Carey's 'Fantasy'. Through the small gap, Oscar can see Lando dancing without a care in the world, just happy to be here and getting to do what he does.
Oscar really likes these ones; the songs Lando sings unashamedly, purely for his own enjoyment; not trying to entertain or please.
One section of the playlist is definitely his favourite, though. Every so often, Lando will find a song and send it to Oscar - saying he thought the Aussie would enjoy it or that it reminded him of his teammate. Something inside Oscar burns as his heart melts to the thought that he's on Lando's mind, enough for the curly-haired Brit to share over 10 separate songs with him in the months since the summer break.
There was never any real point to this playlist; he doesn't really listen to music and a lot of the songs Lando listens to really aren't his thing, and he's certainly not going to be showing the playlist to Lando himself; embarrassing, much. But, as the off season begins and they find themselves separated by ocean after ocean, Oscar allows himself to curl up with his headphones. The playlist isn't really him, but that's not the point. This playlist is so especially Lando and the Aussie could really do with some of that right now.
3 months is a long time. Oscar thanks the part of him that decided to start this little project; giving himself a piece of Lando to keep with him, even while he's half the world away.
