Staying Warm

Summary:

Sayo and Lisa are awoken from the cold night.

Work Text:

Winter brings the cold air through Japan. Crisp cool days can become frigid cold nights, transitioning from fall to winter. If one is not prepared than one can be in for quite a shock when it makes contact. Everyone is bundled up in some way with wearing coats, scarves, hats, gloves, boots, etc. Students among the campuses walk through the frosty environment, getting to class or out of. Some hustle their way to a spot to stay warm. Some don’t let the lower temperatures bother them and do activities outside, like get the campus ready for Christmas decorations and the like. Though, if there’s not any reason to be outside then it’s better to be indoors. This is true especially at night.

“H-h-h-holy crap!! Sayo! It’s cold!”

Lisa yelled and shivered in the middle of the night. The room was freezing cold and the drop in temp awoke the sleeping beauty. Next to her was Sayo who grumbled awake. Her body did register the sudden cold, but didn’t yell out.

Whilst trying to get her brain working to figure out what's wrong, Lisa huddled up in bed, pulling the covers tighter and getting closer to Sayo. The guitarist lifts her arms and wraps over Lisa subconsciously. Her eyes cleared up as much as they could in the dark and sees her girlfriend shiver. Despite wearing their pajamas, they could feel the goosebumps on their exposed skin. Lisa rubbed her legs which in turn, rubbed up on Sayo.

“Lisa, what are you doing?”

“Trying to get warm using your body heat.” Pressing herself onto Sayo completely.

“Won’t that mean that I’ll get cold?”

“No way, you have an endless warmth Sayo.”

“Not according to other people.”

“Psshha, they don’t know what they’re talking about. You’re the warmest person I know.”

“Yeah, well, I need to get out to figure out what’s going on with our heater.”

“Noooooo, your body heat. I need it.” Lisa whined, not wanting Sayo to leave.

Sayo gently tries to break free from Lisa’s grasp. There wasn’t much force within the hug, knowing that what Sayo was doing is needed. Eventually, Lisa relinquished her source of warmth. Letting Sayo go and lifting the sheets up released the heat trapped within. Quickly trying to get some warmth back, she bundled up with the covers. Sayo went over to her desk, rubbing her hands together, and got the control for their AC/Heating unit. She pointed it up to it and pressed the button. There was an audible click from the control but the main unit didn’t respond.

“Strange.”

She clicks it again and the same result.

“Oh no, don’t tell me the heating is broken.”

“It’s broken.” Sayo pressed it one more time to confirm that it is broken.

“Ugghhh, we’re gonna have to sleep like this? I’m gonna die~.”

Sayo raised an eyebrow. Seeing the dramatics of her girlfriend left her a little befuddled on top of it being in the middle of the night. Placing the control down, Sayo made her way back to the bed to escape the cold air. Lisa openly welcomed her back, wanting to be within each other’s hold once again. But just as Sayo got into the bed, she just came up with something.

“Wait. Don’t we have an electric heater?”

“Do we?” Lisa thought hard on if they had something like that, whether it was a gift or something they bought. “I, think we do. Yeah! In the closet in the living room I think.”

Sayo quickly rushed out to the living room. Lo and behold, there it was in the back of the closet. Mentally, Sayo celebrated that they can at least sleep in a pocket of warm air. Bringing it into the bedroom, she removed the heater from the box and plodded it in. Lisa was bouncing around with the blanket wrapped around her, knowing they won’t be sleeping in the cold for the rest of the night.

She got out of bed also, ignoring the cold in anticipation of the electric heater curing them of their problems. Turning it on and setting it to a solid temperature, the heater turned on and air flew out. A few seconds of cool to lukewarm air, before it became heated. Lisa clapped her hands at it working.

Meanwhile Sayo read the manual, making sure they aren’t doing anything that’s a safety hazard. Her lips pursed, assessing what’s being read. There isn’t anything too dangerous with how its set up right now. Just need to keep it a decent distance away from their bed, but not too far to where the heat won’t be felt. The limited range shouldn’t be an issue since they’ll be sleeping, so moving around too much isn’t something to worry about.

Before she knew it, Lisa was already back in bed. She called for Sayo to come join her. One final look over of the heater and manual before she crawled back into bed. Lisa lowers the covers and brings Sayo in. They both engaged in a loving embrace. The pocket of air around them now warm with no worry of moving into a part that’s cold. The two get comfortable, a slight giggle came from Lisa.

“This is much better.” She kisses Sayo.

“It is. Sleeping in the cold would not be preferred.” Sayo returns the kiss. It was a longer lock of lips, one Lisa happily didn’t mind.

Breaking off, Lisa had a thought.

“You know, they say the best way to share body heat in the cold is for two people to embrace each other…naked.”

Lisa smirked, hinting that she’s open for some nude hugging. Sayo stared for the longest time at her lover, not letting that dubious smile get to her.

“Let’s just get to sleep. We got things to take care of first thing in the morning.”

“Awww, that’s no fun.”

“We’ll be tired if I took you up on your offer Lisa.”

“Oh? Are you saying we won’t be getting much sleep?”

“…Just, go to sleep.” Sayo shuts her eyes. A faint blush lit up her cheek, even in the night.

“Heehee, it was worth a shot. G’night Sayo.” Lisa smiled, holding Sayo in her arms. Even if the heater wasn’t working and they had no electric heater, she knew she could still get a good night’s rest as long as Sayo is with her.
